The purpose of these releases must be to give the fans some pre-tastes of MTM releases, which always makes these compilations a mixed pleasure.
Probably more a marketing tool for the company rather than a treat for the fans. Even though these CD's are mid priced I cannot imagine them selling very well.
The first song actually justifies one of the reasons for releasing a compilation like this. Paul
Shortino has resumed his collaboration with Jeff Northrup. Their first album "Back on Track" is a Hard Rock masterpiece. Their new album is to be released spring 2004. The rough mix of
Afterlife sounds a bit mellow with keyboards on it. However,
Shortino's voice is perfect for this style and even though Northrup is rather anonymous on this track, I am sure he will glow on the record. The Northrup/
Shortino CD is one of my most anticipated releases of 2004.
A highlight of fall 2003 must be the comeback album from TNT. The featured track
Give me a Sign is from the appetizer EP released earlier this year.
Tony Harnell sounds better than ever and has progressed much as vocalist since TNT's first albums.
Hughes Turner Project performs
Losing my Head, which has elements of inspiration from
Led Zeppelin and an amazing guitar solo by none other than Steve Vai.
There are standard tracks from Radioactive, Zar and S.I.N.
Rough mixes from a forthcoming Shiva release, which is an album that I won't be buying after listening to the horrible
Desert Dreams. An awful vocal distortion ruins the song. I was very surprised when I later read that it's a woman singing, because that is not recognizable from listing to the distorted vocals. Furthermore there are rough mixes from Danny Danzi and
Seven Wishes - both standard tracks
All in all a mixed pleasure.
