Article - My favorite workout music lately!

Written by Sandra

2011, New Year, new beginning and that also means New Year's Resolutions. Losing weight, getting in shape and being healthy is on many people's "New Year's Resolutions-list". However, working out is pretty boring without some metal-music, so I've made this list, containing some of my favorite workout songs lately.
Hope you'll get inspired!

Running

Virgin Steele, The House Of Atreus Act I, "Kingdom of The Fearless"
This song will pump your blood! The tempo is perfect for running, and the lyrics will make you keep running - personally, I get the "I can do everything feeling" with each listen when I hear the words: to kill, your blood is my wine and the "I KILL YOU ALL!" For Zeus, and the sound of swords.  No one can stop me! One of my favorite Virgin Steele songs. I recommend this one if you're running outside, because people at the gym will think you're some kind of lunatic, when you're singing: "die, die, die!". Just warning you :-)

Virgin Steele, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part I, "I will come for you"
Another favorite Virgin Steele song, which contains motivating lyrics. Especially the "Across the mountains and the ruins I will come for you!" and the "I will return like a sun .."
The slow part may not be perfect for running, but it works for me -  I just picture myself running in heaven like an angel - yeah, what an imagination :-)

Manowar, Kings of Metal "Blood of The Kings"
This is amazing, it has the perfect tempo, I always count 1,2,1,2 when I run to this one, and sing along "four kings of metal four metal kings!" The lyrics are really motivating - and not to forget the screaming Mr. Eric Adams. You will feel like a true warrior running to this one. Hold your head up high and keep on running, HAIL!

Metallica, Master of Puppets, "Disposable Heroes"
So heavy, so thrashing, so awesome!  I always feel like I could kick somebody's ass in the gym, after this one. Back to the front!

Iron Maiden, Somewhere in Time, "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner"
What can I say? It's made for running. Just listen to the bass, and "Run on and on, ruuunnn oonnn and onnnn"!

Helloween, Keeper of The Seven Keys, "I'm Alive"
Speedy, great guitar work and a very bombastic chorus that's easy singing along to when you're getting exhausted.

Cross-trainer

Iron Maiden, Fear of the Dark, "Fear of the Dark"
Is not only an awesome running-song but also perfect when you work out on the Cross-trainer! I always start running /stepping when it speeds up, and count down in my head: 3, 2, 1 GO!  Such a rush!

Sonata Arctica, Ecliptica, "8th Commandment"
Another song that's perfect when you're on the Cross-trainer!

Rope Skipping

Anthrax, Spreading the Disease, "Gung-Ho"
Insane tempo! This is awesome when you're going nuts with the ropes.

Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power, "Fucking Hostile"
Is my favorite rope skipping song. The speedy tempo combined with the thrashing sound makes it easy jumping and jumping and jumping.

Weights

Metallica, Metallica, "Sad But True"
Great heavy tempo for lifting weights, and for sit-ups and push-ups, try it.

Pantera, Vulgar display of power, "A New Level"
Ultra heavy, and perfect when you're dealing with the heavy stuff at the gym.

Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power, "Walk"
A song that will boost your confidence and make you stronger, just listen to the lyrics. It will pump your blood, and help you pump more weight. You'll get that "Are you talking to me" attitude and pump a set more.

Walking

Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland, "Crosstown Traffic"

I enjoy this when I walk down town. The sleek sound puts a smile on my face.

I have to say, I did not see a list of work out tunes coming.

Interesting list. I chuckled at "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner". It is quite appropriate. So are you running marathons.

I do have to say I am more of a classic traditionalist when I comes to my work outs. Generally the Rock 4 soundtrack. Some good old Survivor tunes and some Vince Dicola. Transformers OST with Stan Bush, NRG and Spector General (Kick Axe). I also enjoy Black Sabbath (dio era) when pumping weights (when I did). "I" and "The Mob Rules" gets that adrenaline pumping.

For a marathon I recommend Manowar's "Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts". Hum that one a few times with "Return of the Warlord" in between and you're almost through.

@ Little Drummer Boy:
haha no, I'm not running marathons ... I only imagine that!

When Bruce sings: "the loneliness of the long distance runner run, on and on" I'm thinking: Hell yeah, damn I'm good ! ...and that's is simply why I love listening to that song while I'm running haha ;)
...and well it's an awesome song too! Up the Irons!
However, maybe somewhere in time (sorry ;)), I will run marathons!
