Playlist - December 2006/January 2007 - Steen
Nearing the end of the year I usually have a pretty clear, ordered list of the top albums of the year in my head. Not this year. This year it is more like a big jumbled mess of strong, solid albums, none of which stand out enough to take the honor of being an album of the year (yet). Anyway, here is what I have been listening to for the past month.

My Chemical Romance - The black parade
A great surprise. High on energy and melody, this one is growing with each listen.

Manowar - The Day the Earth Shook - DVD
I was there! Reliving all these experiences is hard to describe. Look out for a full review soon.

Harem Scarem - Human Nature
I've been listening to this album pretty much non-stop over the past four days. A superb rocker, filled with memorable songs. Top notch vocal and guitar work give it a special edge.

Mercenary - The hours that remain
Extremely powerful album that has gotten my attention only recently, way too late as usual. "My world is ending" is a personal favorite so far.

Bob Catley - Spirit of Man
One of many cds lying in a pile waiting to be heard properly. After Tommy played "Last Snow of Winter" for me I decided it was time to pull it out. Turned out to be a very good idea.

Street Talk - V
Pure sweetness for the ears.

Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
Something about this album makes me pull it out this time of year. Wonderful album.

Dragonland - Astronomy
Bombastic, atmospheric and quite impressive. This is one band that has evolved since their debut. The instrumental and highly cinematic ending to the album is a special treat.

Pretty Maids - Wake up to the real world
Very good album. More melodic than Planet Panic, but not quite reaching the level of their best releases.

To/Die/For - Wounds wide open
Read the review.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - The Christmas trilogy
Because it's that time of year.

Jon Oliva's Pain - Maniacal Renderings
The review should be ready real soon. (Yeah right.)

CD purchases of the month

My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell - Part III
Gary Moore - Back on the Streets
Gary Moore - Wild Frontier
Cheap Trick - Authorized Greatest hits
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Queen - Jazz
Freddie Mercury - Lover of life. Singer of songs.
Pretty Maids - Wake up to the real world

Funny how we pull out the TSO xmas collection and somehow the rest of the Savatage connection seams to emerges. DWD is one I always pull out with TSO (prolly due to the time frame of the story...kind of dark for Xmas though).

Have you checked out the new C2C? I was not disappointed...

I have only listened to the new C2C once and it sounded very promising. Hopefully I will have time to really discover it during the christmas vacation. Now I gotta go and hear Old City Bar one more time...
