Playlist - September/October 2006 - Alanna
A new Lande/Allen disc? err Allen/Lande? Thats enough to keep me going. with Winger, Talisman, and Harem Scarem on the horizon... well it looks like this year will go out with a bang and be started with an equally loud sonic boom. Tony Mills in TNT? Robin McAuley lead singer of Survivor? Jeff Scott Soto fronting Journey? Good grief... soo many switches to have to keep up with.
Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth
If I hear "Fly" one more time, my head is going to explode, yet something keeps reeling me back in and tempting me to hear it just once more. Well crafted music from our German metal bards. I was expecting good, but this shattered all expectations. This is a disc I will be comfortable playing in the future to come.
Poisonblack - Lust Stained Despair
It fits my mood. Poisonous and black. So very black. Its so depressingly good it makes you want to wear dark makeup and chains and look all mopey and brooding. Atleast the goth kids whine about stuff with a metallic edge instead of being all whiny and whimpy like the emo ones.
Virgin Steele - Visions of Eden
Far more than I wish to indulge in at this time, I just nibble at it here and there. The complexity makes me want to dig out "Life Among the Ruins" and just chill with its addictive simplicity.
Coverdale/Page
why dont you take me for a little while? Sing the songs you know will make me, make me smile... Covey was a little rough vocally here, but the raw edge draws out the dark moody vibe nicely. An underrated album that too many people were just overly and unfairly critical of.
Sunstorm - Sunstorm
An absolute MONSTER of an AOR disc. Joe Lynn Turner sounds like a new melodic rock god here. Review to come shortly. For those that love the genre and wonder if they should wait...No! Buy it immediately! This is killer.
Edguy - Rocket Ride
Anyone forget about this album yet? No? Good...cos its a super cd that keeps you smiling and rocks your soul too. The video for "Superheroes" is priceless with all the girls dressed up like Playboy bunnies.
Cloudscape - Crimson Skies
Overlooked, underlooked, whatever... its a killer slab of power metal that went unnoticed by the masses.
Brother Firetribe - False Metal
This is kind of false advertising here, but I am totally lost to "One Single Breath" and the clips I have heard. Fantastic stuff and I cant wait for a wider release bringing the opportunity to sample more.
Def Leppard - Retroactive
Desert Song...Ring of Fire...I Wannabe Your Hero... all of these were Def classics and another cd that fell under the radar. Maybe it was due to the fact these were mostly rerecorded BSides, but I tell ya, Lep's B Sides from their heyday are better than most outfits album material. Sad but true.
Street Talk - Transistion
i had not heard this disc in five years. It is somewhere in the piles of CDs left with my parents, hanging out with Fifth Angel, my iron Maiden collection and Reingold among many others. I saw this on the cheap at a pawn shop, stripped down to just disc and a generic hard case and jumped on it. Now i can blast "Energizer bunny" at ridiculously loud levels again. Now if only I could find a Reingold - Universe disc I would be happy.
Adagio - Dominate
Yeah Im stlil listening to this. I still love "Fame". Bite me.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Unleash the Fury
Compared to his other stuff, this sucks. But its still Malmsteen. Atleast he has not tried to reinvent himself like so many other metal musicians have. Barf. He sticks with what he knows but I still feel like he lost the magic some ten plus years ago.
