If you are one of those impatiently awaiting "Chinese Democracy" this tribute to
Guns N' Roses is a good way of killing the endless time
Some of the best singers from the 80's Glam/Hard Rock scene treat these songs with respect and several songs actually stand out as unique versions.
While each song has a different singer, the band performing on the CD is a steady band. This band has every bit of authentic touch to it without being the real thing. The two guitarists are Tracii Guns, who founded Hollywood Rose along with Axl and Gilby Clarke, who joined the band for the extensive "Use your Illusion" tour and also recorded "The Spaghetti incident".
Of course main emphasis is on "Appetite for Destruction", which sold around 20 million copies. Especially Quiet Riot's
Kevin DuBrow stands out along with former Adler Appetite singers
Jizzy Pearl and Joe LeSte's versions of
Sweet Child o' Mine and
Mr. Brownstone. Stevie Rachelle from
Tuff and L.A. Guns' Phil Lewis both set their personal mark on
respectively
You're Crazy and
My Michelle.
John Corabi takes care of two songs from "Lies"
Used to Love Her and
Patience both sounds great coming from Corabi's strong pipes.
Quireboys lead singer
Spike makes a rare guest performance singing
Don't Cry in his own hoarse style.
Spike manages to give it lots of the usual smoky English pub touch and emotion.
In 2002
Guns N' Roses started touring in support of "Chinese Democracy" and now it has turned into a soap opera, since the album still isn't finished.
So if you have been waiting the last ten years for the new album go buy this solid product or if you are a fan of
Guns N' Roses you definitely will enjoy this one. The only weak performance is Kory Clarke's vocals on
Paradise City.
