Playlist - May/June 2007 - Alanna
Ah its been awhile since I managed to get a playlist online but here's what is cooking on my cd players lately...this is really just a light sampling of everything that has been plowing through my stereo lately but its enough to give you an idea... and am highly anticipating quite a few discs at this time too such as the new Kamelot, Allen/Lande, Gotthard and others... its looking to be a red hot summer for music, that's for certain!

Redemption - The Origins of Ruin
Deep, dark, thought provoking music that is crushingly heavy and weighs on the soul with just as much weight as the songs themselves. It's introspective and revealing, combing through the hidden, lurking dark of the psyche. A great prog band with Alder stealing the show on vocals.

Pride of Lions - The Roaring of Dreams
I'm still quite attached to "Astonish You" but the smooth "Secret of the Way" often joins it during the repeated listens. A true celebration of melodic AOR.

Silent Force - Walk the Earth
DC Cooper gets in a few great songs in this power metal disc. The ones where he really shines are highly entertaining. A crisp sounding disc overall.

Jorn - The Gathering & Unlocking the Past
Picking and sorting through these two discs makes for a fun Jorn filled afternoon. Revisiting "Bridges Will Burn", "Sunset Station" and the epic "Hour Glass" is fantastic. And hearing his covers always brings a smile to the face. Just how close he can sound to David Coverdale...its phenomenal. This is a warm up exercise for "The Revenge" which is coming soon...

Code - The Enemy Within
A great cd that doesn't have alot of real standout tracks, but is overall immensely entertaining. "How Do We Stay In Love"..good question, nice song.

Blind Guardian - A Twist in the Myth
Some might have found this disc to be tiresome or too far off the BG-power track, but the little twists and extras are what keep its place in my cd player. Great stuff.

Brother Firetribe - Death to False Metal
What a disc, what a disc...and I believe its time has not even come yet! If a wider release ever comes for this thing, watch out world! So highly addictive, I'll be singing the choruses to a half dozen of these songs for years to come.

Virgin Steele - Life Among the Ruins
It was their AOR album. Highly criticized, thrown into the fire, but for some, like myself, eternally and absolutely ADORED. "Jet Black", "Last Rose of Summer", "Sex Religion Machine"... it burns in desire and then drifts across like a lovelorn lovebird who has lost his mate... Powerful emotionally, catchy and sexually charged. It boils the blood for the heat wave of summer.

Slavior - Slavior
I listened once again, for the umpteenth time, with the thoughts and opinions of others circling in my head while hearing it...and you know what? It didn't change my own mind in the slightest. This disc sucks..and offers nothing that I wish to hear in not only metal, but music. Period. Some say its daring, technically challenging, refreshing with that reggae twist. I find it to be annoying.

Rainbow - Bent Out of Shape
Ahhh the classic mood lifter. "Desperate Heart", "Cant Let You Go", "Street of Dreams"...nuff said!

Gotthard - Dial Hard
Love this disc! It continued where Whitesnake left off, but with a heavier rock twist. Great tunes like "I'm Your Travelin' Man" are just so timelessly catchy. Gotta love the energy and bluesy overtones found all over this disc.

HIM - And Love Said No
The perfect HIM Greatest Hits collection. It came out just at the right time of their career. Right before they over commercialized, but just after some of their best work had just been released. The bonus songs are perfect too. This was introduced to me at a pivotal time of my life and songs such as the title track and "Pretending" had a lasting impact on my life. For awhile I craved to be as dark, cool, and goth-hip as these guys were...except the gothchick version of course.

Dare - Beneath the Shining Water
The breezy celtic atmosphere makes this one beautiful AOR listen. Brimming with melody and visions of rolling green hills, crystal clear water so pure it could wash the black from your soul, and romances so eternally profound that nothing mortal could ever touch the ethereal depth found within.....well you get the picture. Throw it on the player and relax along with me.
