Playlist - July/August 2006 - Steen
Several highly anticipated albums arrived this month, including an "Album of the Year"-contender.

Metal Church - A light in the dark
Heavy Metal. Dark atmosphere. Rough voice. Tree-cutting axe work. Good album!

Crashdïet - Rest in Sleaze
The party album of 2005 for sure.

Cloudscape - Cloudscape
A solid metal album with strong melodies, good atmosphere and some progressive tendencies along the way.

Wastefall - Self Exile
Sounds extremely promising. If you like Pain of Salvation or Progressive Metal in general you should check this band out a.s.a.p.

Elegy - Lost
The emotion in Eduard Hovinga's voice is one of several highlights on this outstanding disc.

Blind Guardian - A Twist in the myth
As complex and difficult to get into as I expected. Blind Guardian continue their style from "A night at the opera" here with many twists along the way. Favorite song so far: Straight through the mirror.

Luca Turilli - The Infinite Wonders of Creation
A good album but not quite as captivating as I had hoped in the long run. It doesn't match the previous two solo albums.

Ten - The Twilight Chronicles
The style from "Return to Evermore" is continued here and the result is majestic hard rock with a epic, overblown feel to it like only Ten can do it. Just wonderful.

Virgin Steele - Visions of Eden
This highly awaited album does not disappoint and takes a proud seat along the rest of Virgin Steele's amazing catalogue. Dramatic and passionate above all.

Misfits - Famous Monsters
Great discovery.

Hi Steen,

Its been a really long time since i posted a message.
Maiden's new video... Oh yes.. I saw that, and i was a little surprised overall. Firsly sorry that i am talking about maiden in ur playlist section, I couldnt find anywhere else to talk about it. U can delete my post later, but i need ur comments as well.. Here are mine

1) Starts off with a quiet into just like any of the songs in Seventh son... and this intro goes around for 2 mins. something like Moonchild intro or even the Prophecy intro but not as melodic as the mentioned above intros.

2) The main Riff is too plain or simple to my ears.. Come on man.. I expected a Wicker Man, An Evil That Men Do, Rainmaker...or more "In your face" type of a song.. And The chorus riff is again plain too simple.

3) Then during around 5min, 25 secs... i hear a weird riff the sound of which is not "Maidenish"... at times its a little spooky like slayer. I dont remember Maiden playing such a riff like that. Maiden r supposed to be more melodic.

4) The video is also weird... it isnt a video after all.. Its just a sequence of pictures played like a slideshow, one after another... each picture there for about 2-3 seconds..
I really doubt if this is their actual video

5) I couldnt say who exactly is Benjamin Breeg after watching the video..
But one thing, even though i watched a high resolution streaming video, the video wasnt that clear after all... But i am guessing i saw the pictures of Bruce were a little dull... I am not sure, but it looked like it..
So.. Could Benjamin Breeg be Bruce?...
Am not sure, having watched the video only once, this is just a guess

6) The solos - which started during the last 2 mins, were good.. Maybe i have to listen to them a lot more number of times.. before i can tag the word "Brilliant".. But definitely a good solo no doubt.. The solo sounded as though it was played by Dave Murray + Janick Gers i suppose...

7) And lastly the sound of maiden.. I am very very surprised... Some people said that it could be a 100% progressive album...
Hell no.. It is just their trademarks maiden sound.. + a riff which is a little spooky... but that riff is only for a short period of time

8) Overall the pace of the song was not matching the trademark Maiden's pace.. It was like a Sabbath or a priest...

I cant say that i am disappointed but i am not impressed with it either.. But i am really nervous..
And yes... If they disappoint me, then.. I will be so depressed that it will supercede even the feeling of losing my job a few days back..

Hey Maiden fan,
My first impression is that it has some potential. It is way too early to say something specific. Only listened to it twice. I will wait until I have the full album in the right audio quality before getting really into it.
