The concert highlight of the month was no doubt Iced Earth who played a fantastic concert in Denmark a few weeks ago. Highlights included the last two parts of the "Gettysburg" trilogy, "Ten Thousand Strong" and a monumentally powerful version of "Dracula" but the whole deal was a very memorable experience. Tim "Ripper" Owens delivered an impressive performance and at the front row where I was located the whole concert was one big party.
Another concert highlight was the first ProgPower Scandinavia festival where especially Threshold, Andomeda and Machine Men impressed. A full report of this festival is coming soon, courtesy of Tommy.

Helloween - Gambling with the devil (Power Metal)
A really great Helloween album with tons of melody and a nice bit of aggression. This is among the best of the Deris-era, even bringing back memories of the superb "Time of the Oath". Focused and energized.

Gamma Ray - Land of the free II (Power Metal)
The follow up to one of the finest power metal albums ever is very good but it doesn't quite live up to its legacy. I guess that would have been almost impossible. What you get here is aggressive Power Metal with emphasis on the melodic element. Sort of like Helloween, if only slightly more aggressive, darker and back to basics.

Gary Hughes - Veritas (Rock)
Highly melodic and very pleasing album from Ten's mainman. Typical Gary Hughes with sweeping melodies, big production and that voice. Several songs make an instant impact but "I Pray for You" has an especially mind infecting melody.

Iron Maiden - The Early Years - DVD (Heavy Metal)
Great documentary on the beginning of the band. Now I am most exceitedly looking forward to part two as well as the concert in Denmark in 2008.

Damian Wilson - Let's Start A Commune (Soft Rock)
If you're a fan of this guy's solo work, then this album will give you a wide smile. Just wonderful.

Nightwish - Dark Passion Play (Symphonic Metal)
Good album, but I haven't quite warmed up to it yet. A slight disappointment.
