Get your favorite easy chair, sit back and put "Hollywood Hairspray II" on the stereo. Listening to this CD will take you back in time, where bands like Mötley Crüe,
Poison and Ratt were dominating the charts. The eighties music were also about having a good time and the lyrics were often about drinking and chasing women. Just listen to Cherry St.'s nice mixture of
AC/DC and Britny Fox party rock with a chorus line that goes "I need a drink of Whiskey". For some this album might not be significant, but for some (including myself), it is a trip down memory lane.
The highlights of "Hollywood Hairspray II" include
Pretty Boy Floyd's anthem
Groovy Love. The guitar sounds crunchy and Steve Summer's vocals make this track a hidden gem of 80's Hard Rock. Former
Pretty Boy Floyd guitarist Kristy Krash Majors also delivers a pretty cool track titled
Goodbye Rock N' Roller. Kristy doubles his vocals and the song has a climax on the chorus, which kicks ass.
Ken Tamplin has a brand new song on this compilation from his latest album "Wake The Nations". The amazing vocals are a duet between
Jeff Scott Soto and
Philip Bardowell (Unruly Child).
Story of Love has a great atmosphere and is played by skilled musicians exemplified by the stunning guitar solo from Scott Van Zen.
Fahrenheit has a European sound with a singer, who sings high in the vein of
Tony Harnell from TNT. Fahrenheit sound in good form on this great song. Heaven sounds like an
AC/DC cover band. The thick guitars and a singer sounding like Bon Scott makes you rock along this irresistible song.
Enuff Z'nuff has only made a handful standard tracks on their 10 studio albums. Therefore it bothers me that
No Place To Go is included on "Hollywood Hairspray 2", since it rates among the few not-brilliant tracks in the EZN catalogue. The song from
Jetboy doesn't either rate among their best work. Nitro is a real 80's Sunset Strip band. The Nitro song has fake audience enthusiasm
The album seems to fade out towards the ending. The last couple of bands have a weaker sound quality and mostly they are too inspired by some of the already established bands.
This album is 60 minutes packed with music from various bands and various sound qualities. The common denominator is the 80's style with each band adding a flavor of either Glam or Hard Rock.
Essential for all fans, who cannot get enough of 80's Hard Rock.
