Playlist - February/March 2008 - Steen
The past month has flown by but I did manage to discover a few new albums.

Dreamtone & Iris Mavraki's Neverland - Reversing Time (Progressive Symphony metal)
A complex and challenging album that is slowly growing. Especially the appearance of Hansi Kürsch is memorable.

Steel Attack - Carpe DiEnd (Heavy/Power Metal)
Promising on first listen.

Coheed and Cambria - No world for tomorrow (Power rock)
Effective melodies and a certain special atmosphere keeps drawing me back to this one. The singer often reminds me of Geddy Lee from Rush.

Tarja - My Winter Storm (Tarja without Tuomas = TnT of the non explosive kind)
Fans of Tarja's voice might be happy but fans of Nightwish probably won't. The music is much more laid back than Nightwish and the only link is the voice. A handful of good songs can be found among the first half, but at 18 songs the album is way too long and contains too many anonymous fillers. On the last part of the album only the dreadful cover version of Alice Cooper's Poison stands out, and that is in every way that is wrong. A truly heinous cover version.

Pride of Lions - Live in Belgium DVD & CD (Rock)
Highly entertaining. Lead singer Toby Hitchcock proves that he is amazing live as well as on record. Especially "The Gift of Song" and "Gone" have a fair share of Wow! moments.

Saviour Machine - Legend Part I (Unofficial soundtrack to the end of the world)
Part I provides a riveting opening to this monumental project.

Stan Bush - Shine (Rock)
Slick, melodic and thoroughly enjoyable.

Ayreon - 01011001 (Progressive Rock of the Ayreon variety)
A superb album that keeps growing beyond the first 20 listens. The DVD that accompanies the limited edition has several great extras and is worth investing in. Highlight: The hilarious "NI!" moment between Arjen and Jorn Lande. Full review.

Crossfade - White on Blue (Relaxed rock)
A very pleasant discovery.
