Myland - No Man's Land (AOR) AOR album of the year? There is a contender right here. Out of nowhere this Italian (yes, Italian) band has swept me away in a blissful wave of swirling keyboards and massive choruses. Songs like "Age of my dreams", "Anytime", "(Someday) Love leaves you lonely" and "The wind of late September" are all instant saccharine delights. Only the vocalist took a little while to digest. Another month will show if the album has the strength to keep up its huge initial impression. Surprise of the month for sure. Saviour Machine - Legend Part I - Signature Edition The new arrangements are quite interesting, but it is a real shame there wasn't room for Legend I:I and The Lamb. Can't wait for the downloadable version to appear. Jon Oliva's Pain - Global Warning (Heavy Metal) The occasionally distorted vocals are a shame but besides this several songs stand out and make for a varied and entertaining experience. "Firefly" still gives me shivers and the combination of "O To G" followed by "Walk upon the Water" is another highlight. Review is coming. Stan Bush - Stan Bush & Barrage (Rock) A slice of 80'ies melodic rock heaven. I was lucky enough to get hold of the Collectors edition with 8 great bonus tracks. If you find this gem snatch it up at once. Thanks for the hint Mads! Stan Bush - The Child Within (Rock) Emotional and tender, this is one absolutely wonderful album when you are in that mood. Skid Row - Skid Row (Hard Rock) Another older discovery. Infectious and highly energized. Whitesnake - The Silver Anniversary Collection (Hard Rock) Gearing up for the Sweden Rock Festival with this collection. Great stuff all around! Lord Bane - Age of Elegance (Progressive) One of a kind. Payne's Gray - Kadath Decoded (Progressive Metal) Another one of a kind album. Warrel Dane - Praises to the war machine (Heavy Metal) Great album! A must for the more relaxed Nevermore fan. Firewind - The Premonition (Heavy/Power Metal) A stone solid disc that still holds up. Quizz My Ass (PC Game) This Hard Rock and Heavy Metal PC Quiz Game was tested over the course of a two day party and didn't quite bring the house down. Presentation-wise things are a bit dodgy with limited graphics and not a whole lot of settings to try out. The main game mode has up to 6 players competing in several rounds of increasingly difficult questions. 4 different categories; Hard, Heavy, Extreme and Alternative. One wrong answer means that you are out for good. It would have been nice to have a point system where you were able to catch up again after a wrong answer. High points for the concept of a Heavy Metal PC Game but it could have been so much more. Fun for a short while, but overall a disappointment. Dragonlance - Dragons of Autumn Twilight ("Animated" Movie) I'm only writing about this here as a warning to any fans of the books who might be tempted to check it out. Don't! They apparently only had the budget to render every fifth frame. This is the worst and most embarrassing movie adaption I have ever seen. They completely messed it up. NP: Iron Maiden - Losfer Words CD purchases of the month Saviour Machine - Legend Part I - Signature Edition

Comments: 245 | | Oh man! The Dragonlance movie! You know what? I actually *liked* it. Then again, I have been hoping for it to be put to the screen for *years* now.
Yes! The animation is terrible - if they had stuck with just the cell animation it would have been alright, but the CGI just did not mesh with the hand drawn look. Even the designs looking like 80s Filmation cartoons (He-Man, She-Ra) didn't bother me. Most of the characters looked right and sounded right. I loved Sutherland as Raistlin, he was just right. Also... the screenplay was well done. It's hard to squish a 400 page book into an hour and a half movie and I think they did a good job of that, although I WISH they had kept the "Tas and the wicker dragon" part of the book.
The elves were ugly too. Laurana was not beautiful enough to move mountains in the cartoon. And Goldmoon......eh. Disappointing? Yea.
Sooo..... I think Dragonlance fans would enjoy it, if only to see the world come alive on the screen... I bought it so whatever. :D

Comments: 518 | | Yeah, the CGI... big mistake! Also I have a feeling that they screwed up the PAL conversion since the movie stutters heavily more times than I bothered to count. I could have lived with the animation if it had been CGI free and the rest of the movie had worked. The saddest thing is that they never capture the essence of the book. It would probably have been better to split the first book into two movies or a marathon 3 hour thingie. The movie misses the sense of urgency or danger or even time passing as in the book. It just goes by way too fast and misses the small stuff that made the book a personal favorite.
"Tas and the wicker dragon" is also a favorite part of mine which could have been extremely fun to see. Other moments I think they messed up include Flint at the lake, Bupu and the dead lizard, Berem, Caramon and Tika's relationship and several other missed opportunities.
A few positive things that come to my mind right now is the score and Raistlin and Flint's voice acting. Oh and the fact that Lord of the Rings started out in the somewhat the same way, so perhaps in 15 years time we will have a full live action trilogy done properly. The books deserve something very special.

Comments: 1 Ratings: 1 | | Global Warning is a fantastic album, the best from JOP so far. I have to agree that FireFly is really something quite special. I especially like the 'new' version of Before I Hang... Looking forward to reading the full review.
