Playlist - March/April 2007 - Steen
2007 is set to be an awesome year musically. I've listed some of the upcoming concerts and releases I am awaiting, most unpatiently. So far albums from Neal Morse, Manowar and Redemption have already surpassed anything I discovered last year. Yes I know, my highlights of 2006 is somewhat late.

Upcoming concerts
3 Manowar shows in March, My Chemical Romance in April, Jon Oliva's Pain in April, Enuff Z'nuff UK tour in April/May, Kamelot in May and Metallica in July are just some of the concerts I'm attending in the coming months. I haven't even gotten to the Summer Festivals yet. Wooo!

Most awaited releases of the year
New releases from Symphony X, Enuff Z'nuff, Metallica, Chris Caffery, Kamelot, Dogpound, Primal Fear, Allen Lande, Sontata Arctica and Dream Theater are those at the top of the list. I can't wait.

The current playlist:

Redemption - The origins of Ruin
Progressive Metal fans can buy this one blindly. Complex and promising after the first few listens.

Manowar - Gods of War
Oh my God!!! This album is everything I had hoped for.

Gaia Epicus - Victory
If you're looking for a fix of power metal then check out Gaia Epicus. Gamma Ray, Megadeth and old Metallica all mixed into an explosive potion. A nice discovery.

Neal Morse - Sola Scriptura
Outstanding! Read review.

Ten - X
What a debut! Read review.

Pain of Salvation - Scarsick
Yes, the album is still evolving. A review is getting closer.

Pandora's Box - Original Sin
There are some real gems on this album. The opening title track is bombastic and stirring. I can't believe that I'm writing this but "Twentieth Century Fox" has a really foxy disco vibe! "Safe Sex" is my favorite of the bunch. It is an instant ear hanger with a strong melody and a classic chorus line. "The future ain't what it used to be" is so much better than the version found on Bat out of hell III.

Stiltskin - She
Keeps growing. One of last years highlights.

Def Leppard - Hysteria
I guess I'm a couple of decades late in discovering this but Hysteria is friggin' amazing.. Besides the superb album tracks, this re-mastered 2-disc deluxe edition has a great booklet, b-sides, remixes and several live tracks. An instant classic.

Manowar - The day the earth shook DVD
Gave it another view to finish up the review. Awesome stuff.

Im glad you finally discovered and can appreciate the pure genius that is Hysteria. I was very very lucky to be just old enough to be swept up in the Def mania when it happened and this album will always be something special to me. I covet that 2 disc edition though, something I do not have, though I have owned MANY copies of this album since its release in a variety of formats. Need to buy it yet again I can see. Just classic all around. Didnt like Scarsick by PoS that much. They have disappointed me immensely on their last few releases.

Allen Lande, Kamelot and JLT are my most awaited treasures. A trio that should be nothing but outstanding. I get excited just thinking about their impending releases!

Oh yeah, I totally forgot Lake of Tears. Also completely forgot the new releases from Iced Earth and King Diamond! I'm expecting all three to be absolutely awesome. Lake of Tears is always something special.

By the way, I just got back from seeing Manowar live in Munich and Frankfurt. Absolutely the best shows I have seen them play. Their shows lasted for more than 2½ hours and they played Mountains!! Oh yeah. Now, two days of warming up before the Hamburg show. A tour report will be coming soon...
