Playlist - September/October 2006 - Tommy
Age Of Nemesis. Psychogeist
Decent Progressive Metal, some cool mystic moods here but not much to really excite, the melodies never really become present.
Dionysus. Fairytales And Reality
Olaf Hayer has a fantastic voice and there are some really catchy melodies on this their third album. Unfortunately I lack the really stunning gems from the first two ones.
Dream Theater. Images And Words
It will never stop to amaze with its depth and musical grandness.
Forbidden. Twisted Into Form
Interesting Trash Metal with a wide range of musical twists and powerful playing, I wouldn't call it spectacular but definitely solid work. Reminds me of mid era Anthrax.
Gotthard. G
I'm developing a habit of buying a new Gotthard album regularly and I'm yet to be let down. Classic Hard Rock with a solid rhythm section.
Iron Maiden. A Matter Of Life And Death
Eagerly waited as always but not quite living up to the celestial expectations.
Don't get me wrong, this is a very good album but I lack the real classic's potential.
It's not really a problem for me that the songs are long and start out calmly, I just miss more amazement and splendour along the way. Some songs get lots in medium choruses and structures without much aim.
Anyway Nicko sounds phenomenal, the guitars offers imaginative ideas and the lads have bended some fine cuts in the like of Different World, Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, Out Of The Shadows and The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg.
Kottak. Therupy
Direct, melodic and raw Hard Rock with a Punk flavour. It's definitely energetic and quite memorable too.
Led Zeppelin. II
Groovy, vibrant and with a bold attitude. Not everything is equally captivating but the soul and passion burns right through.
Manticora. The Black Circus Part l - Letters
It's turning out to be a very competent release and the concept is rather uneasy, all lyrics represents different letters and it has a King Diamond like creepiness to it.
Power Metal is the basic core, but it has more to offer as the album slowly opens it mystic doors.
Mind's Eye. Walking On H2O
Interesting ideas, some catchy moments but also a bunch of passages that gets lost in a spiral without a clear goal.
Pantera. The Great Southern Trendkill
Some of these hard bites go in deep, but it's not exactly a memorable or fantastic album.
Poverty's No Crime. The Chemical Chaos
Progressive inventions and relaxing moods. This is still a brilliant album, fans of Dream Theater and Vanden Plas should consider giving it a chance.
Rush. Counterparts
These guys bring along something totally unique, advanced and dynamic. Compelling and comprehensive all the way through.
Seventh Wonder. Waiting In The Wings
One of the surprises of the year. Symphonic and Melodic Progressive Metal with plenty of talent, oblique structures and catchy moments.
White Willow. Signal To Noise
Warm and sensitive Progressive Rock with delightful female vocals. Very Anti stressful with a sensitive aura.

When A Matter of Life of Death is an essential part of ur playlist, go ahead and review it!
And if u r giving a rating of less than 9, then let someone else review it.. lol
And i am very surprised when u say that it lacks a "classic potential"... Just to point out tommy that u have given a rating of 9, 8.5 for BNW and DOD respectively..
If those were considered as classics.. this beats the hell out of it.. But then again its ur opinion..

BNW and DOD contained a wide range of songs that belong to some of Maidens best. The quality and overall inspiration level of A Matter Of Life And Death is below that in my opinion. It's a solid album and I like many of the progressive structures, but they are not as thrilling as for example Paschendale or The Thin Line Between Love And Hate.
The Pilgrim becomes down right monotone at times and the chorus in For The Greater Good Of God sounds forced, but I really like the dark atmosphere in that song though.
I'm glad you are even more excited about the new album and if I had unlimited time I would review it, and in spite of everything still rate it around "very good".

As for AMOLAD, Musicianship is at it finest. The Trio of guitars sound wonderfull as the mix really distinguishes each style of the individual guitarist and yet melds together perfectly. I found this CD was far more consistant bring this aspect together than the two previous and as soon as Steve is added in...well enough said. As for Bruce, well you simply can't go wrong when he is at the helm. Nicko does sound phenomenal on this release. The lyrics are good as well. With that being said there is one major flaw that puts the previous releases ahead of this one. That defining song or two that says "Classic". Each of the past releases has that defining song(s)like Number Of The Beast, Run To The Hills, Aces High, Waisted Years, The Evil That Men Do, Fear Of The Dark, the Wicker Man, etc...you get the idea. It is the hook that pulls us in, as that complete memorable moment that we try to sing to when Maiden comes rolling into town. I find that that this release is missing that staple. I will play the CD right through and enjoy it with all of its intricate weaving. But its like having a holiday dinner that is missing the dessert. Its Just not complete.
