Article - Michael's Highlights of Year 2009
Best concerts of 2009: 01 - AC/DC - O2 Arena, Dublin Ireland April 18 Having seen AC/DC both on the "Razors Edge" and "Ballbreaker" tour I knew what to expect and the old geezers certainly didn't let anyone down sounding better that ever.
02 - Foreigner - Sweden Rock festival June 5 What a live performance! Singer Kelly Hansen impressed live. The rhythm section was Jeff Pilson and Brian Tichy - high quality.
03 - Whitesnake - Train, Aarhus Denmark June 1 Seeing Whitesnake in a intimate venue with only 700 people was an experience I will never forget.
04 - Skagarack - Godset, Kolding Denmark October 17 Skagarack has reunited and played a handful of reunion shows throughout 2009. This show was in their hometown was compiled of fans, childhood friends, neighbors etc, which gave the show a unique vibe. This wasn't a concert - it was an experience (And the band played great)
05 - Mike Tramp, Pakhuset, Aarhus Denmark November 6 In my book Mike Tramp cannot do anything wrong. I have followed him since I purchased the "Big Game" LP and Tramp is the artist I respect most. Tramp is back in Denmark and I captured him 3 times on this Denmark Autumn tour. The show in Aarhus was just magical and this was probably the best I ever heard Tramp and his band.
06 - Mr. Big - Train, Aarhus Denmark September 29 Mr. Big in concert was another dream come true. The musicians are so skilled that the concert almost drowned in shred. Green Tinted Sixties Mind, Rock N Roll Over, Daddy Brother Lover and Little Boy, Take Cover, The Whole Worlds Gonna Know. we got them all in a 2 hour concert.
07 - Winger - The Rock, Copenhagen Denmark December 4 The new album "Karma" is amazing and a step back in the 80's. The setlist was great with 3 songs from "Karma" and greatest hits focusing on the 3 first records.
08 - Vain - The Rock, Copenhagen Denmark December 4 I admit I was a bit tipsy, but I was really looking forward to seeing Vain live. Vain sounded just like on the record and with the majority of songs from "No Respect" it was a night to remember.
09 - AC/DC Parken, Copenhagen Denmark June 19 4th AC/DC show and the first time outdoor - Again the band delivered the goods and I don't think you can get tired of AC/DC in concert.
10 - Babylon Bombs - Sweden Rock festival June 6 Only 55 minutes but that was enough to convince yours truly.
Best albums 2009: 01 - Vains of Jenna - The art of Telling Lies Swaggering Sleazy Rock N' Roll the way I like it.
02 - Winger - Karma Winger is back with a record that is cut right off an 80's formula. Top musicians and top songs
03 - Cheap Trick - The Latest The album flows perfectly with its blend of Power pop and ballads
04 - Babylon Bombs - Babylon's Burning This also could have been "album of the year", since I still play this album regularly. Maybe the album with the longest durability?
05 - Mike Tramp & The Rock N Roll Cirkuz At first I was disappointed, but the album is a grower. Tramp played the whole album live in concert, which really pushed the album.
06 - Steevi Jaimz - My Private Hell Probably the most consistent album of the year. Last month I got to see Steevi Jaimz live and the songs from "My Private Hell" really holds up live.
07 - Kiss - Sonic Boom A great comeback album from the masked rockers - their European "Sonic Boom" dates are certainly among 2010's most anticipated concerts
08 - Mama Kin - In the City A debut album that doesn't sound like a debut. Lots of hooks - great songs.
09 - Innocent Rosie - Bad Habit Romance Another debut from a Swedish band. Crunchy guitars and the quote from the press release says it all "Their sound is like Skid Row's roadies in a knife fight with Guns N' Roses' drugdealers"
10 - Dirty Penny - Young and Reckless Consistent songwriting and a band that has matured since their debut album |
