Perris Records has compiled the third Hollywood Hairspray and once again the compilation's ingredients are 80's style Hard, Glam and Sleaze Rock.
Hollywood Hairspray is a mixture of brand new, up coming and unreleased tracks from bands all dedicated to the 80's style. The album features a lot of new bands showing that Hard Rock is alive and still kicking in various countries.
Geographical the compilation goes farther than Hollywood's scene and introduces Eat The
Gun from Germany, who plays hard rock that doesn't sound German. More than 20 years after Hanoi Rocks, Finland once again produces a hard rocking Glam band Sleazy Dream. Sleazy Dream's
Backslide sounds like an old recording from 1987 with very characteristic vocals - a promising act. Tracy Gang Pussy (great name) is a Glam Sleaze band from France. Furthermore there are a bunch of bands from Sweden and
Switchblade is from Denmark - so hairspray has spread its stickiness overseas.
Like the previous Hollywood Hairspray, this is a mixed pleasure. There are great-unreleased tracks from Stampede
Queen and Mad Margritt. I expect great things from Mad Margritt's up-coming album, because they deliver the best song
Straight through the heart. Compared to their last record it seems like they worked more on the songwriting with prominent guitar and an exceptional solo.
Shameless contributes with a brand new recording featuring Steve Summers' characteristic vocals giving
Shameless the right 80's feel.
Realize is a piano driven ballad very much alike
She's not Coming Home off
Shameless' "Splashed" album.
Gemini Five created a small buzz in Sweden with their debut album, where
Babylon Rockets is taken from.
Gemini Five has updated their sound and has quite a powerful production for a self proclaimed Glam band.
Since this is a compilation of album, non-album and unreleased tracks from bands with limited budget the production is varied, but overall good. Only minus is Tigertaliz'
Kiss inspired track, which sounds worse than all demos I heard in the last few years.
