Dragonforce - Twilight Dementia Sunday, December 26, 2010 UK metal hammer is a disgrace, has been since the early 90ties.
Read the German version instead ;0)
Celesty - Vendetta Tuesday, October 12, 2010 How come you are reviewing it now its more than a year and a half old
Accept - Blood Of The Nations Thursday, September 16, 2010 Comeback album of the year. Not even Sanctuary could do a comeback album like this.
It lacks a little more speedy songs but incredible nonetheless
Iīd give it a 8 as well
Gamma Ray - Heading For Tomorrow / Sigh No More (2CD Set, Reissue) Friday, March 5, 2010 ITīs their two best albums so if you like the others you gonna love these 2
Sacred Steel - Carnage Victory Wednesday, February 17, 2010 I always hated the singers voice in this band :0)
Hibria - The Skull Collectors Wednesday, December 23, 2009 They are among the finest from Brazil.
But I like the debut just a little bit more than this one.
Good review :0)
Sanctuary - Into the mirror black Wednesday, December 16, 2009 Always liked the 2 Sanctuary albums but could never get into Nevermore. Thatīs kind of funny and sad
Stratovarius - Infinite Wednesday, December 16, 2009 Their last good album :0(
Magnum - Into the Valley of the Moonking Friday, October 16, 2009 Just got the album today.
Itīamazing the best since Goodbye L.A, how could the reviews i read be so negative i donīt get it. So much energy, they sound forever young.
Manowar - Warriors of the world Wednesday, October 7, 2009 This was not a good Manowar album they continued their downfall that begun on Louder than hell and hopefully ended with Gods of war.
The new EP Thunder in the sky promises well for the next album though, and for many many many years i am actually excited about a new Manowar album.
Lets not hope all the good tracks are on this EP from the forthcoming album as they were on the last release Gods of war, every single above average track were on the EP released prior to the album.
Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution Monday, September 28, 2009 Only Painkiller is better than this one.
Almost the ultimate Priest album
I agree a solid 9
Iron Maiden - Brave New World Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Was not among my farvorites either the only Maiden album worse than this is the awful A matter of life and death.
After Seventh son they stopped being great but they are still among one of the greatest if not the greatest metal band out there.
Would rate this as a 6 point
Cain's Offering - Gather The Faithful Wednesday, August 5, 2009 Do you really find this album that good?
I am surprised I think its quite boring. I have only listened to the tracks on their myspace page because some review said it was just like old Sonata arctica, which I can hear a little but lacks the same quality.
Normally i would be a sucker for a band like this but these songs just donīt do anything for me. I love old Stratovarius, sonata arctica, Brother firetribe but this! I really find they lack the quality the above mentioned band has.
Just above average IMO
Nightwish - Live with Pain at Glasgow Carling Academy - March 31st 2008 Friday, July 24, 2009 Itīs funny cause I am pretty satisfied with Anetteīs voice in Nightwish and I was one of the loudest speaking person who condemded the band after loosing Tarja.
Granted she has some problems singing the old songs but itīs nothing comparred to what I feared.
I think she does quite a good job besides she often dress horrible as Sandra pointed out ;0)
of cause there are some song they could never pull of with annette but all in all she is a good choice and when she sings The Escapist I hardly think anybody could do it better and Everdream is better than Tarjaīs which i thought not could be done.
BTW I must be the only one who really hates the Islander (what a horrible song), everybody else seems so pleased with it, I really canīt understand that.
And I am very jealous on you guys that you got to hear Last of the wildīs, really love that song but they did not play that one in Denmark even though Indica supported the band, so they could have done it with lyrics and all, but noooooo :0(
(now come to think of it, the song was not recorded with vocals at that time, if I remember correctly)
Axel Rudi Pell - Kings And Queens Saturday, July 11, 2009 Is it just me or has Axel released the same album over and over again?
Always liked his music but it has become a bit boring through the years and nowadays I only buy them when i find them cheap cause itīs like you know all the songs before you hear them.
Eternal prisoner gotta be his best and his work with Steeler were great too, but now listen to one Pell album you have heard them all
Def Leppard - Pyromania & Adrenalize Deluxe Editions (Reissues) Friday, June 12, 2009 Pyromania will always be THE album for me from Def leppard. Somehow I never got into Adrenalize, maybe it was the wrong time with all the grunge stuff around. Adrenalize ainīt bad but could not meet the demand IMO. After Adrenalize this band totally died and has not done one single song i can listen to.
But Pyromania is a fantastic album and Highīn dry very close. I do enjoy Hysteria but the sound is too Popish and canīt help think of all the wannbe metal heads that bought this album and thought wow i am listening to metal :0) Think that bug me a little even though i shouldīnt
Jorn - Spirit Black Friday, June 12, 2009 Iīve only heard I walk alone on youtube because someone told me about this song and how good it was they did not know it was a cover and i did not either as i didīnt expect a cover of this song EVER and not so soon after the original.
But itīs marvelous, Jorn realy gave this song a life. Tarjaīs is utterly boring and as a whole I was very dissapointed with her solo effort (except the christmas album). But Jorn really nailed it and now i can really appreciate the song. Its incredible how much a song can change just with a new vocalist, but never has a pretty boring song become song great. I am speechless
Magnum - Into the Valley of the Moonking Friday, June 12, 2009 Thanks :0) I was going to buy it anyway, have one have em all, so if they released a fart in a container and released that with a cover Iīd still buy it.
I wonīt get too high hopes, but hopefully your review brings more justice to the album than the others :0)
I have not payed much attention to Magnums later work except Princess alice. Both "morning" and "breath of life" only been played 2-3 times. Donīt know why, but likely I did not find anything spectaculy about them. Canīt really recall one song from those albums.
Magnum - Into the Valley of the Moonking Thursday, June 11, 2009 Alanna if you should compare this album to one of the previous ones which one would it be?
I have read 2 fairly negative reviews of this album yours are the first positve, and what you write is almost the exact opposite of those reviews. They state that the band sound like a tired old band with no ideas, no nerve and that everything is quite average. Nothing majestic about it at all and no song(s) stand out. The writes both been very fond of the band before so it surprises me a lot. Actually never read a bad review about this band.
Always liked the band but they are not as good as in the old days, but everytime i hope for another On a storytellersīs night.
Might add I have not heard the album yet
Accept - Objection Overruled Thursday, May 28, 2009 Seems that Accept have reunited with former TTquick vocalist Mark Tornillo.
Wonder what thatīs gonna sound like, my expectations ainīt high
Nachtgeschrei - Band Profile Thursday, May 14, 2009 An incredible band with 2 incredible records out.
Best newcomer of 2008 in folk metal
quality all over this band except maybe the singer could be a little better but not that he is bad at all.
Looking forward to follow thir career the next years
Accept - Objection Overruled Thursday, May 14, 2009 Maybe the best comeback album of all times
and this just shows that they should have never been apart, just think of the great albums they could have done between Russian roulette and Objection overruled. Not that Eat the heat were a bad album thereīs actually some pretty good tracks on but Reeceīs vocal doesīnt fit the sound of Accept.
But unlike others I donīt have high reguards for Death row, thereīs a lot of fillers on that album and Predator is even more bad. Wolf commented that Udo didīnt have the heart with him on that album and the band were very unsatisfied with the album and i think you can hear it.
Best accept album would be
1. Balls to the wall
2. Russian roulette
3. Objection overruled
4. Metal heart
5. Restless and wild
6. Eat the heat (would have been higher with UDO on vocals)
7. Breaker
8. Death row.
9. Predator
10. Imīa rebel
11 .Accept
Impellitteri - Wicked Maiden Friday, May 1, 2009 This is way better than Malmsteen, I am not a big fan but itīs actually very good and some of Chris earlier work is quite splendid
Stratovarius - Elements Part 2 Saturday, April 18, 2009 This was one of the bad Strato albums the journey downwards started with Infinite and peaked their downfall with the selftitled album. Element pt I and II were not among the good strato albums IMO but Pt I way better than this one
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder Wednesday, March 25, 2009 COBīs first 3 albums are great among the best in their genre, then their music just became boring and the latest is just pure shiiiite.
But hatebreeder, Follow the reaper and Something wild is classics
Arkona - Lepta Wednesday, March 25, 2009 They become better and better for each album. The latest is far superior to the others
Kamelot - Epica Sunday, March 22, 2009 Yup it is their best. And the only one i ever listen to. The albums before this is just boring and the later hmm i donīt know they just donīt catch me.
A good 7 but keep in mind itīs because i never saw a bright light in this band but Epica is a good album.
Edguy - My obsession with Edguy Friday, March 13, 2009 I loved the band up until Hellfire club. Especially Helfire and club and the great Mandrake album are classics and some of the best power metal album out there.
The latest album Tinnitus Sanctis really dissapointed me but I should have expected it after the very weak Scarecrow album with Avantasia. It is just too Bon jovi, soft and not as powerfull as they once were.
I read somewhere that Sammet said that they did not want to play the kind of music they did before (power metal) and I must said they really live up to that. None of the magic the band had before is there anymore.
I think they are beginning to alienate their old fans just like Metallica did when they changed their style. I mean if they just did 2-3 tracks in the spirit of the old time to keep their old fans happy, not the new stuff they are pulling off, its not good
On Tinnitus where are the really good powerfull speedy tracks? When they try like Speedhoven it just donīt add up. Itīs not good anymore. They canīt deliever a track that can make me bang anymore. On rocket ride there were 2-4 great tracks on Tinitus thereīs it nothing. As and old Edguy fan i must say this band is dead to me.
I have no good expectations for the next Avantasia album which i am sure the only excitement for me will be how many great guest vocalist he will include this time. The album will be a pure Bon jovi rip off. But i hope he will prove me wrong. The same thing goes for the next Edguy album.
Just my honest opinion :0)
Shadow Gallery - Tyranny Friday, February 27, 2009 It is funny when I lock in and read some retro review of albums I have had for ages but didīnt find interesting at the time. The reading your reviews giving me a feeling that I should really give these albums another chance. Happened with Vicious rumors and now happens with this album ;0)
Not a 9 in my book but still an album I should have listened to more than the 3-4 times i did 10 years ago. The reason I didīnt was because I never really liked Progressive metal at that time and does not now, but these guys are among (maybe the best) the best I have heard.
Demons & Wizards - Demons & Wizards Friday, February 20, 2009 The first album is great the second one sucked
Grave Digger - Heart Of Darkness Tuesday, February 17, 2009 Have to strongly disagree. Not as bad as the latest albums but this one was nowhere close to the 3 classics. Tunes of war, The reaper and Knights of the cross IMO.
Somehow this album were very differnt from what you would expect from gravedigger at the time. It is not bad but does not have the high quality the other albums did.
After Excalibur and The gravedigger they just lost their way to write good quality songs.
Heart of darkness stands out in the prime period of gravedigger, not for being great just for being different. I would give it 7
Excalibur and The gravedigger 7.5 and 8
Tunes, Reaper and Knights 9.5, 9 and 9.5
Vicious Rumors - Welcome to the ball Tuesday, February 17, 2009 Yes steen it was a good album, i am scearching amazon for Welcome to the ball now itīs not that expensive (around 6Ģ) so itīs probably be my next buy.
Soldiers of the night seems to be quite expensive to get hold of so Iīll probably wait for that one.
Vicious Rumors - Welcome to the ball Sunday, February 15, 2009 Damn I almost forgot about this band. I donīt own Welcome to the ball but i do have the Selftitled album from 1990 and Digital Dictator from 87.
I think i have do dig out those two old albums, I canīt remember at all what this band sounds like it has been more than 15 years since my last listen!!!
What i do remember is that every single review i ever read about Welcome to the ball and the selftitled album from 1990 praised the band to the skies. It was as if the band never got the recognition they deserved like other classic acts as Savatage and Overkill.
And everyone praised Carl Alberts voice like the best singer of all time so there must be something about it.
Going to give VC a spin in a minute ;0)
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Wednesday, February 4, 2009 Somewhere in time is their best but Seventh son is a close second and i agree it was the last Maiden classic.
Theres has been great tracks on the later albums but not all great as on Seventh son and before that album
Edguy - Tinnitus Sanctus Friday, January 23, 2009 Do you really think rocket ride was that good? There were a lot of signs on that album that lowered my expectations for this one and with good reason.
Mandrake and Hellfire club were their masterpieces IMO
Edguy - Tinnitus Sanctus Wednesday, January 21, 2009 This albums was a first a huge dissapointment then after a few spins it becomes a decent album and would even have been above average if it had not the name Edguy all over it.
A very thin album for such a class act but i fear this is the way itīs gonna go for this band. They showed the way on rocket ride and now itīs even more obvious with this release.
Very likely my last Edguy album :0(
Rhapsody (of Fire) - Legendary Tales Wednesday, January 14, 2009 I am more looking forward to Lucaīs Dreamquest II album. It should have been out last summer I wonder what happened :0(
Hope it does not have anything to do with the Magic circle thing.
I really fear this album will never see the light of day.
Sturm und Drang - Rock 'n' Roll Children Friday, January 9, 2009 Reminds me a little of how Edguy started they too were only Children at the time, but look how they have grown especially Tobias Sammet with his Avantasia project.
Not that i am a fan of Sturm und drang but i have a feeling that the future of their career will follow that of Edguyīs
Rhapsody (of Fire) - Legendary Tales Friday, January 9, 2009 At the time it was an incredible album and to this days it is the Rhapsody album I put on if i want to hear them. Itīs a pitty they have not evolved much through the years, i mean to me it seems like they have released the same album over and over again.
Som bands can, some canīt and to be honest i donīt even look forward to a new Rhapsody album anymore cause you have already heard it before itīs out.
Various Artists - The State Of Power Metal Music Tuesday, December 30, 2008 I agree in most of what is written. Only thing i donīt understadn why you have so high reguards for Lost horizon and Evergrey, both are bands that is just average in my book. And the Pyramaze albums sucked (had high expectations for that one)
But you have some very good points.
Power metal just ainīt the same as it was before see the likes of Iced earth and Blind guardian. But iMO it was after Burnt offerings and Imaginations from the other side that these 2 bands lost it. As you say the later albums ainīt bad but when you have high expectations then a very good album just ainīt very good anymore youīll need to have exceptional.
And theres too many bands out there who really lack quality and the old ones fail to make an impact. Rage has not made a great album since End of all days, Running wild (my farvorites) lost it right after Black hand inn.
Grave digger sucked after The grave digger and Rhapsody has released the same album time after time (come on guys come up with some new stuff).
But i think the really good years for power metal was from 90-00. After the millenium every second release has been a power metal band of doubtful quality.
A few highlights not all pure power metal, has come after year 2000
Dreamtale
Crystallion
Falconer
Dream evil
Serenity
Sonata arctica
Twisted tower dire
But the new millenium has been, very few new good bands, and the old ones failed.
Every one of the very old band mentioned i have high expectations when they release new stuff and almost every single time they canīt live up to their old stuff. Iīll give em 10 spins and then put em on the shelves to collect dust and treasure my old albums with these great bands.
Northern Kings - Rethroned Friday, December 12, 2008 I thought reborn would be great but it really was not. I was very dissapointed.
Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God Sunday, December 7, 2008 Their best IMO but I have only heard the three latest.
Virgin Steele - Life Among the Ruins Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Yeah it really seems they switched style totally with first Marriage I and II and more significally with Invictus. My first experience with the band was Marraige Part II and then Invictus which i loved madly at the time. Both musically and the text was very good, so i was quite surprised when i bought some of VS earlier work that it was more like AOR/hard rock than the, could we call it, Epic kind of cheesy power metal.
So my point of view has alwas been Invictus the masterpiece and the others never quite lived up to that album. So it is unfair to comparre the later VS with the earlier.
I dont think I am familiar with the albums before Noble savage but do own Guardians of the flame but never heard it more than once. I guess those early albums is AOR too?
Virgin Steele - Life Among the Ruins Monday, December 1, 2008 Vow you really seems to love that album :0) i Donīt recall it as a masterpiece but havenīt heard it for ages. But Invictus is a real gem and the two Marriage albums and house part 1 is also very strong.
I think Iīll give it a spin later today
Running Wild - 20 Years In History Sunday, November 30, 2008 An incredible band
Best albums
Pile of skulls 10
Black hand in 10
Dead or glory 10
Port royal 9
from Masquerade and forwrd their albums has not been the same but i still hope they will make a great albums once again, but ainīt sure Rolf can.
But the classics will forever live
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Nahh :0) I still donīt get Malmsteen. Seventh sign is ok but the songs just donīt stick in my head.
Have to say I am never going to be a fan of his, guitar meister og not ;0)
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Vex - You are probably right ;0)
Has Jeff scott Soto song on a Malmsteen album? He is really a great vocalist just listen to his work with Axel Rudi Pell
Axel Rudi Pell - Tales of the Crown Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Yep. Change is bad just look at Metallica, Megadeth etc etc
Give me bands like Gravedigger, Running wild and Axel Rudi Pell, that never changes style and gives the fans what the fans want. Maybe not always as great as the albums before (God knows that the latest Gravedigger albums has not been great, but still good), but the style is always the same.
Looking forward to the new Gravedigger album though.
On topic this is a classic Pell album
Axel Rudi Pell - Tales of the Crown Monday, November 24, 2008 Nothing new under the sun. One of the only artist whom you are never in doubt what he delievers.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Wednesday, November 19, 2008 Vex - Yeah maybe. At least Iīll give him another chance ;0)
Vescera!? I saw an solo album the other day with him is that worth anything? A sign of things to come I think it was called.
I am glad you like the dreamtale album I agree it is close to Sonata arctica but a little better IMO. Even thought SA also is a great band.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Tuesday, November 18, 2008 Vex you are probably right but Iīll need to hear it anyway because of Owens
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Tuesday, November 18, 2008 Vex I have Odyssey and Seventh sign and one album i canīt remember the title of with him. I donīt recall anything spectacular about Seventh sign but maybe i should give it a spin one of these days. Havenīt heard it for many years.
Unfortunately I have just gotten the new Dreamtale album, and that is going to stick around in my cdplayer very long so Malmsteen have to wait a little.
Blackmoreīs Night - Secret Voyage Monday, November 17, 2008 OMG. I just got the album today and you were not kidding. Locked within the crystal ball is absolutely marvelous. Heard it more than 20 times today and the video for the song is also so great
Yngwie Malmsteen - Perpetual Flame Monday, November 17, 2008 I will only buy this album because of Owens. Never been a fan of Mr. Show off. He is an arrogant clown, and has an attitude that suits an 19 year old teenage star better :0). Nevertheless i canīt deny that he can play a guitar but itīs just too much somehow.
I hope Owens will do for me, what the other Malmsteen albums has not done.
Accept - Balls to the Wall - Remastered Thursday, November 13, 2008 The one the only and the best metal band ever ;0) This album must have a 10 or 666 for the best album of all time
Turn me on was the track that got me into real metal instead of what i listened to at that time like DAD, Alice Cooper, Gunas and roses and the likes. When i first heard Turn me on, London leatherboys and Balls to the wall i began to really enjoy metal for what it was and never stopped.
BTW Hashman an album called Midnight Highway?! Never heard of that donīt you mean Breaker where the song Midnight Highway is on? I would be so sad if you tell me that theres an Accept album out there I donīt own.
Russian roulette and Metal heart are very close to Balls to wall IMO and Objection overruled is a great comeback album. That would be my top 4.
A close fifth is Eat the heat unfortunately not with UDO on vocals, if he had been on that record it would be an unbelievable are record. An very underestimated album, not that David reeese is bad singer, but to fill out the fat german shoes noone could do that.
UnSun - The End of Life Sunday, November 9, 2008 No you are right it ainīt bad, but theres nothing special about it either. Maybe i spoke to hasty, i had only listened to it twice even though i had the cd for 2 months.
I am actually spinning it now and itīs ok, but theres plenty of similar bands out there. My rate would be 5.5 mabye 6 just above average.
But it is nice that they are not going down the Nightwish way that so many others has done and failed like Amberian dawn you mentioned, and its easier and more catchy to listen to this than a lot of the other goth like bands out there.
if you never heard of them before try to check out Delain. If you like Nightwish then you will love this band :0)
Various Artists - We Wish You A Metal Xmas And A Headbanging New Year Saturday, November 8, 2008 You should listen to the 2 X-mas project albums from Nuclear blast instead. These are great. Theres 2 albums out and you can get them both from EMP.de at nice price 9.99 euroīs
Thorsten Bergmann [aka Toto] (vocals, 1985, 1995)
Reent Froehlich (vocals, 1985)
Peter Wagner [aka Peavy Wagner] (vocals, 1985, 1995)
Sabina Classen (vocals, 1985, 1995)
Axel Rudi Pell (guitar, 1985, 1995)
Thomas Eder (guitar, 1985, 1995)
Andy Classen (guitar, 1985)
Frank Fricke (guitar, 1985, 1995)
Reiner Kelch (guitar, 1985, 1995)
Martin Bork (bass, 1985, 1995)
Ralph Hubert [aka Björn Eklund] (bass, 1985, 1995)
Jörg Michael [aka Gordon Perkins] (drums, 1985, 1995)
Andreas Geremia [aka Gerre] (vocals, 1995)
Mike Tirelli (vocals, guitar, 1995)
Adrian Hahn (vocals, guitar, 1995)
Spike Francis (guitar, 1995)
Randy Coven (bass, 1995)
David (bass, 1995)
Jim Harris (drums, 1995)
Stefan Arnold (drums, 1995)
UnSun - The End of Life Monday, November 3, 2008 It is a pretty boring album the only good thing is the singer she is very good looking ;0)
Iced Earth - Horror Show Wednesday, October 29, 2008 You really nailed it with the first line.
The album is not bad but after masterpieces like Burnt offerings, Dark saga and something wicked then this was so dissapointing.
Northern Kings - Reborn Saturday, October 18, 2008 You should check out Sinergyīs cover of Abbaīs Gimme Gimme Gimme
W.A.S.P. - The Crimson Idol - Double Remastered Edition Tuesday, October 14, 2008 Exactly the best WASP album ever, much better than the average stuff they releases now and then. After this album they should have stopped.
The old ones are great as well
King Diamond - "Them" Monday, September 29, 2008 This is by FAR the best album from King diamond.
Bob Catley - Immortal Sunday, September 28, 2008 The tower were Catleys to date best solo album so you have not made my expectations any less :0)
Brother Firetribe - Heart Full Of Fire Saturday, September 27, 2008 The is the best melodic/AOR I have heard in a long time, maybe ever, this band really kicks ass. If the members of Nightwish would do such albums then i can easily wait 4 years for a new albums when they release such stuff.
The first album is just as good as this one. They have both been spinning for weeks in my cd player.
Brother Firetribe - Heart Full Of Fire Saturday, September 27, 2008 The bonus track Two hearts is that the Magnum track from on a storytellerīs night?
I donīt have it on my album :0(
Bob Catley - Immortal Friday, September 26, 2008 Canīt wait to hear it. Catleys solo stuff is better than the stuff Magnum did the last 10 years.
His voice is one of the greatest ever, and if this stuff comes just a little close to Storytellerīs night it would be incredible i have long waited for an album close to that one.
Ross The Boss - New Metal Leader Saturday, September 20, 2008 He did however play in both Heyday and Manitobaīs wild Kingdom for a few years in the 90ties.
Both albums is recommendable as good rock stuff but nowhere near metal.
Just ordered the album yesterday and looking forward to it :0)
Metallica - Death Magnetic Saturday, September 20, 2008 Thank god for a review that does not praise the new album to the skies.
The worst 70kr I have spend on an album for a long time. I should have known that it would not be good.
Just slightly better than Load and Reload but lightyears better than the awfull St. Anger
Iced Earth - The Crucible of Man, Something Wicked Pt. 2 Saturday, September 20, 2008 bad news then :0(
Iīll wait to buy it until i can get it on a discount
Falconer - Among Beggars and Thieves Tuesday, September 9, 2008 I kind of like the swedish songs, not that they are better than the others but itīs nice to hear some swedish folk. They have always been better to do it than we Danes.
The album is almost the same as Northwind not much new under the sun, except the female vocal, but done in a great way which Falconer always have done it.
I would have given the album a higher rate. 8 or 8.5, but I have always been a sucker for medieval music and texts, and nobody does it better than Falconer these days.
Mabye its i bit off to call Falconer a Medieval band but they have a lot of elements that leads you close to the genre but still they are much more power metal than other medieval bands.
Iced Earth - The Crucible of Man, Something Wicked Pt. 2 Tuesday, September 9, 2008 Hope its better than Part 1 which dissapointed me a lot, but IE has not been the same band since Something wicked from 1998
Finntroll - Jaktens Tid Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Yeah you are right it can be hard to replace 2 members. Yes he fell of a bridge in Helsinki if I am not mistaken.
Anyway they are unique and one of Finlandīs finest. I treasure all the albums but rarely listen to other than Midnattens Widunder or Jaktens tid. Maybe the EP Trollhammeren that promised well for the album Nattföd but the album could not live up to my expectations. Unfortunately
Revolution Renaissance - New Era Friday, August 22, 2008 I am a bit surprised by this album.
I have lost all respect for Timo Tollki long time ago but this album is actually quite good, much better than expected. Way better than the 3-4 latest Strato albums.
Finntroll - Jaktens Tid Friday, August 22, 2008 Finntroll is indeed a great band, but i prefer their debut "Midnattens Widunder" from 1999 that album is truly a classic. This one not far behind and both albums are unique. The band has never been the same after Katla retired and Somnium died. The latest album from Finntroll donīt have the same quality as the 2 old ones, but they are still worth buying.
I think the most close you can get to a band similar to Finntroll is Svartsot from Denmark and Turisas from Finland or Trollfest, but they miss the polka rythem.
Blackmoreīs Night - Secret Voyage Thursday, August 21, 2008 Wish you were here, my farvorite Blackmore track ;0)
Blackmoreīs Night - Secret Voyage Tuesday, August 19, 2008 The thing with Blackmoreīs albums has always be that thereīs some kick ass tracks 3-4 on each album and then the rest is a bit borring. Everytimes thereīs a little speed (I guess it donsenīt matter anymore) in the track or some really good sing-along chorus (all for one) then he is the master. But theres too many tracks that does not stick out and i canīt remember even after 3-4 spins.
Anyway i buy all his albums just for the 3-4 tracks that kicks ass
Kissin Dynamite - Steel Of Swabia Tuesday, August 5, 2008 Only heard the My religion track but sound really good
Conception - Flow Friday, April 11, 2008 Maybe i should listen to my 2 old (very old) Ceonception albums again, I donīt recall them as something special but maybe my taste have evolved through the years, it must be at least 10 years since the last spin
After Forever - Invisible Circles Saturday, April 5, 2008 What! the voice actors lacks talent, I am speechless
Benedictum - Seasons of Tragedy Wednesday, April 2, 2008 Hope this album is worth it their first was one of the biggest dissapointments for me cause everybody praised it to the sky and I found it just palin average. Iīll give this a chance but I am not sure Iīll like it. Hope I will:0)
Various Artists - Playlist - January/February 2008 Monday, February 18, 2008 The Naowar stuff could have been good but the singer is just awful one of the most awful singers I ever heard. The text though are quite funny especially Number of the bitch
Avantasia - The Scarecrow Sunday, February 17, 2008 Totally agree it should have been a Tobias Sammet solo album instead of having the name Avantasia. It is dissapointing comparred to the others.
Me on the other hand think Bob Catley is the wonderful voice on this album.
Alestorm - Captain Morgan's Revenge Wednesday, February 6, 2008 Just ordered it yesterday had only heard one song but being a Running wild maniac iīm looking forward to it. My hopes are not high that they will take over where Running wild lost it after Black hand Inn but hopefully on the next couple of albums they will get a lot better.
Pirates is one of the ultimate subjects for metal songs. Love it
Virgin Steele - Invictus Wednesday, December 26, 2007 It is the ultimate VS album after this the band slowly started to get boring, and now they actually suck sorry to say but their latest really is bad.
But back to Invictus, I must agree it really has almost everything you can ask for.
I have a special version of it thatīs twice as high as the normal album, there is no bonus tracks on and it does not fit into my cd shelves. I am willing to sell it if anybody is interested. Bought it in Metalized in Copenhagen when it came out so i guess its a limited first edition but i am not sure. I have bought it again in a normal jewel case so it suit into my collection, but it is no fun to have 2 of same album.
Northern Kings - Reborn Wednesday, December 12, 2007 i have only heard 4 tracks from this album but must say i was truly dissapointed with what they have come up with. Normal i love metal cover songs of old pop stuff like Werk 80 from Atrocity and the likes, but this is really not good, i canīt put my finger on why but this just donīt catch me at all.
Spread Eagle - Spread Eagle Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Must get this one, been searching for ages for something close to Skid rows debut album.
Nightwish - Dark Passion Play Thursday, November 15, 2007 I must most strongly disagree :0)
Well first of all the album is nothing more than absolutely great. Thereīs some not so good parts but overall itīs fantastic that a band that i would have judged to go down can deliever such a gem.
Only thing i hate is the juvenile parts for Tarja firing of the band, and the thing that annoys me most Marco simply CANīT sing, why has they written so many parts for him, his voice really sucks. And then the song Eva what on earth is that song doing on that album it really sucks big time and then the Poet and the pendulum song is WAY to long the last part is just crap and ruins a great song.
The album are among my 3 farvorite NW albums like Century child and Oceanborn
The folk at the end is pure Korpiklaani very good indeed.
But Anetteīs voice is much better than my expectations and I really am very satisfied with this album.
King Diamond - Conspiracy Thursday, November 15, 2007 A true classic the second best album from King only Them is better.
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon, Something Wicked Pt. 1 Tuesday, October 30, 2007 I was a bit dissapointed.
1. Ripper is a great singer but he will never fill Barlowīs shoes
2. the subjetct which the album deals with is a bit cheesy, i mean we have gotten 3 tracks from the Something wicked album now a whole album! The music as always are great, but when you think of Iced earthīs greatest moments (Burnt offerings and The dark saga) this album like Glorious burden are just not good enough, but at least we were spared for the embarresing ballads like When the eagle cries.
