Stratovarius - Infinite
Infinite is Stratovarius' eight album and my prediction is that fans of their earlier works will not be disappointed, this album has all the classic elements and still manages to sound inspiring.

The catchy Hunting High And Low is a great opener, filled with fantastic rhythm guitar parts, harmonious vocals and a bright shining drive. Millennium is the fastest song on the album, intense drumming and a striking guitar solo being real treats.
Freedom is another direct track with a wonderful and immensely captivating key melody, the chorus makes it easy to get in a good mood, and I think this song is a splendid example of how to combine heaviness with lighter and melodic elements. The fast guitar/key duelling solo spot being spellbinding as well.

Phoenix is a mid-tempo creation with some intelligent rhythm changes, tight bass lines and heavy riffs, all packed into a quite complex structure.

A Million Light Years Away comes forth with a hard hitting rhythm and a soaring key melody.
A special tense refrain binds the different parts nicely together and the guitar solo has a cool innovative vibe.

My favourite track is the extensive title song, dealing with the important theme of greed, ignorance and lust for power, serving as a general warning for the future.
The dramatic and grand atmosphere is amazingly brought to life through marvellous orchestrations.
The drumming is over the top genius and highly technical and overall all things just melt together into a huge musical expression. In the league of best Stratovarius songs ever, that's for sure.

Celestial Dream is a short but very interesting song; built upon a soaring symphonic and orchestral setting. It's an ingenious and very positive track where Kotipelto unfolds some impressive and illuminating vocal qualities.

Lyrically the album is dealing with typical Stratovarius topics like war, injustice and personal struggles but also brighter feelings of hope, love, happiness and a wish for a better world. All in all fitting and well done.

Here's a broad summing up of the band performance:
Jörg Michael's detailed and very powerful drumming is once again a pleasure to listen to, filled with a great powerful dynamic.
The vocals are very balanced and add lots of melody to the songs and the keyboard creates many atmospheric and captivating passages.
The bass is very powerful and interacts very well with the drums and the guitar work from Timo Tolkki is as always fast, detailed and with tons of great riffs.

A couple of songs have elements that keep them in a lower league than the above mentioned ones. Mother Gaia becomes a bit too slow and monotone at times, at least for my taste. This is still a good song overall though, the mellow key atmosphere and catchy guitar solo are fantastic.
Glory Of The World offers a more direct approach, the bombastic chorus is quite good and the key arrangements and solo skilfully played and highly interesting. Anyway the verse part lacks more excitement and overall I miss something highly memorable.

I think that the production is brilliant and well suited the musical direction, having a crystal clear touch without losing depth and strength.

The band offers technical Power Metal on a high level of composition and execution, this one has a great bunch of fantastic and immensely melodic songs.

Don't understand the following for Strat! Picked up Intermission, Elements, and Destiny looking for what you all are talking about...?? Timo sings like he has a pierced nut or something...? While the musicianship is alright I still don't get it!!

One of the best Stratovarius albums ever.
9,5!!!

Nice album but Stratovarius'"Episode"still remains the best album of heavy metal of '90s.
I also think that their new album"Elements PArt 1"(released on Jan.2003)is much better than this one.

I kinda dislike these guys. On every album theres this feeling of MARKET based songwriting. Infinite is no exception. Can't help it...

They try to make hard & fast hits, they try to create larger than life atmospheres and emotions. They fail in all this. Maybe there's just too much trying...

Stratovarius falls in all archetypal power metal clichès: boring double bass drumming, not too good guitars, standard-level keyboards and below-mediocre vocals, lyrics being cheesy.

This is a standard power metal album. All tracks are easily forgettable with no timeless classics. I give it 5/10.

I agree that this album has some "okay" songs on it such as the aforementioned ones in the article, but I just have to add one crucial detail: Timo Kotipelto's voice is at its peak on this album. It is simply outstanding. On no other album does he sing with such clairity and range(most notably on tracks such as "Hunting High and Low" and "Mother Gaia"). With this in mind it suprised me to find out that Stratovarius is getting a new vocalist(02/10/2004)! But I expect great things from HER...!
Ultimately, do your ears a favor and give this band a listen. They are one of the best ones I've heard in the past two decades.

It's A MUST. This is the best Stratovarius album of all. If you have already this one, Elements Pt. 1 is the next one to get. After, it's Destiny. The metal sound, on Infinite, is the most catchy of all song I've listened that far of Stratovarius. Mixing in the album is very good. I give it a... 9/10 (perfect don't exist)

Good album and definitely more fresh than Destiny (though great album when it came but not really anything new from Visions). Songs like "Hunting High and Low" and Million Light Years Away" bring back memories from their earlier albums. "Hunting..." is like a new version of "Against the Wind" with similar Whooo-oooo scream in the end. "Mother Gaia" is a little boring track and "Glory of the World" has too fast keyboard parts that it sounds quite bad.

Dreamspace, Episode, Fourth Dimension best albums. No matter how good albums Strato does now or in the future they will never surpass these great ones. Their creative, varied and emotional compositions are out of this world!

I pretty much agree with Tommy...it's high level Power Metal ...and also right on the prediction.

The problem about "Mother Gaia", is the fact that it's misplaced ... just right after the ultra fast Millennium... then it might feel as a odd low-point, especially with the beginning, however, it certainly isn't a low point.
"Mother Gaia" is very beautiful, the guitar solo is so great and dreamy ..it captures a brilliant atmosphere.
I simply love "Celestial Dream", very relaxing and the symphonic elements fits perfectly in. I just wish it was longer.

Many great, exciting and catchy Power Metal songs, executed by the expert power metallers :)

Stratovarius: It gets me 10 years back... I remember when I bought this album I was very curious about their next step after destiny,.

Indeed it was good. I would say, I prefer it than the very mediocre Destiny. Althought the band still keeps the same speed double bass style which is very predictable after a while, however I think Infinite has something more to offfer. The first two songs are fast but the sound of the keyboards makes it sound unique. Mother Gaia is nice and melodic while the chords of the Freedom is a pure copy of the Forever free from Visions. Celestial dream and Infinite are very good compositions also. In overall its an ok strato-album but for me the "Episode", "Visions", "4Tth Dimension" are the top while I love the "Dreamspace" and Tolkki's voice. Finnish singers have an amazing warmness in their voices...
