Monday, May 9, 2011 - Edguy Confirm New Album Title And European Tour | German melodic metallers Edguy have set "Age Of The Joker" as the title of their new album, due in August via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Peppermint Park studio (Scorpions, Phil Collins) in Hannover, which was previously described by the group as "a recording temple with a tremendously great-sounding room."
Regarding the band's forthcoming album, Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet recently said, "The new songs sound great, we have thirteen of them, and we'll pick maybe ten and put them on the album. We have anthemic melodies, although it's not kitsch.
When you record anthemic music, you tend to be dangerously close to kitsch, it's a fine line and I think we balance on that fine line pretty well.
To cut a long story a little insignificantly shorter: I just think it is great, and that's what counts. Real music, you know?
We were always striving for a powerful but natural sound. I guess we had a good sound recently, but I think there is always room to improve.
The more I listen to what's going on in the heavy metal world these days, the more I long for drums that sound like drums. I want them to sound powerful without sounding like Atari."
Edguy will embark on a European headlining tour in September with support from Kottak (the band fronted by Scorpions drummer James Kottak).
The dates are as follows:
Sep. 23 - SWE - Malmö, KB Sep. 24 - SWE - Gothenborg, Trädgarn Sep. 25 - SWE - Stockholm, Tyrol Sep. 27 - GER - Hamburg, Docks Sep. 28 - GER - Berlin, Columbia Club Sep. 30 - GER - Essen, Grugahalle Oct. 01 - GER - Fulda, Wartenberg Oval Oct. 02 - GER - Bamberg, Arena Oct. 04 - GER - Filderstadt, Filharmonie Oct. 06 - CZE - Prague, KD Vitavska Oct. 07 - GER - Langen, Stadthalle Oct. 10 - ITA - Milan, Alcatraz Oct. 11 - SUI - Pratteln, Z7 Oct. 12 - FRA - Lyon, Transbordeur Oct. 14 - ESP - Madrid, Heineken Oct. 15 - ESP - Barcelona, Apollo Oct. 16 - ESP - Bilbao, Rock Star Oct. 18 - GER - Saarbrücken, Garage Oct. 19 - FRA - Paris, Bataclan Oct. 21 - GER - Memmingen, Kaminwerk Oct. 22 - GER - Straubing, Messehalle Oct. 23 - CZE - Zlin, Rock Cafe · Discuss this news further (0) |
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - Edguy - New album cover art revealed | News from the official Edguy website:
Edguy have just revealed the album cover for their forthcoming new studio album "Tinnitus Sanctus" which will be released worldwide on November 14th. Check out the cover here.
Last Saturday the record company invited the press to the studio where the album was played to several European journalists who were all really impressed with the fresh and heavy sound. More than one journalist came up with the memorable remark that the album will underline Edguy's status of having become Germany's leading Hard'n'Heavy band, setting off to new horizons, featuring typical trademarks without repeating themselves. This album is a statement of innovation and credibility and as Tobias has put it,"A vitamin shot in the arm of a boring and predictable genre!" · Discuss this news further (2) |

Sunday, June 29, 2008 - Edguy recording new album | Edguy have entered the Gate Studios in Wolfsburg to record the follow-up of their chart breaker album "Rocket Ride". The new album will be produced by Sascha Paeth and is scheduled to be released in November 2008.
The album will be entitled "Tinnitus Sanctus" and Tobias Sammet has got the following news in store: "The title just refers to the wall of sound that will bulldoze you. Let's be modest: We have ten extraordinary songs and this new album is gonna be our ticket to the hall of fame alongside with LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH and AC/DC. There won't be a hit-single this time, not even a flop-single, haha; not only because most songs are too long for a single, but also because for a single we had to produce way more stuff, lose money and need a time frame to release it. The album would come later then and that would suck. For the record: Musically, we don't go back to the roots. It's not the "Legacy of Mandrake part 2" and it's not a little brother of Rocket Ride either. It's a new album and we've set off to new horizons once more! The stuff sounds really broad, very anthemic, heavy and ballsy. We've kept our trademarks and still there are a lot of elements that are different to anything we've done before. I know what some fans may think, because if my favourite bands would have come up with statements like that I would have been scared to death, but in our case I am sure this could be the album we'll be measured by in the future." · Discuss this news further (0) |
Monday, April 28, 2008 - New Edguy album on the way | Edguy are currently preparing to hit the studio to work on the successor of their recent album "Rocket Ride".
Tobias: "People think that we are quite fast but that's not the truth. I completed the Avantasia album last autumn, the Avantasia songwriting itself was completed even way back in 2006. All the new ideas I've had since then could be taken for Edguy. In fact, this is a long time to refresh your creativity and gather new stuff. The material sounds very fresh, it embraces all the different trademarks of Edguy, I think it is a logical continuation of Rocket Ride and Hellfire Club. Maybe it doesn't come across as goofy as Rocket Ride, but I am sure if we have fun in the studio we'll have enough possibilities to ruin the day for notoriously bitter people, haha. Yet it's more bombastic and heavier, not too fast cause I really don't like pure Speed Metal that much anymore. I like Lavatory Love Machine, The Piper Never Dies, Mandrake and Sacrifice. There's three fast tracks, but they are all good, not 'just fast'! We'll enter the studio next week and work whenever producer Sascha Paeth and me come back from the Avantasia weekends."
Furthermore Edguy will be touring the USA and Canada as special guest of Kamelot in October. · Discuss this news further (0) |
Monday, July 31, 2006 - Update from Tobias Sammet | An update from Edguy's Tobias Sammet:
Hello friends!
How are you? I am sitting in a Spanish hotel room which I am really happy about as I had lost my voice earlier this week due to a bad throat infection. The doctor told me it wouldn't work but thanks to god, pharmaceutical-industry and my ignorance I hopped on the plain and we'll be there playing for you tonight, no matter what. Jerez seems to be a real pretty city and the festival area seems to have a special enchanting charme. I'm looking forward to meeting our Helloween friends later and of course to go on stage.
As for the Ask-Tobias section at www.tobiassammet.com: Hundreds of questions come in and it may be impossible to answer them all, so I hope you understand that we pick those that might be most interesting to the majority of our visitors. Two questions are frequently asked and I am going to give you a short answer in here: "When are Edguy coming to my country?" - As previously said: As soon as we know, we'll tell you. If we don't announce a show, there might be several reasons for that. We keep you up to date, our management is working on certain territories, the tour isn't over yet. Another frequently asked question is "When is Avantasia part 3 coming out?" Again: I won't continue the story as it is over! But I started working on something that is gonna deserve to go by the name of Avantasia. Don't ask me when and if and how and who! I'd have to compete against something legendary, so I'd be a complete idiot if I'd let myself be pressed for time. Okay, now I'll meet with the other Edguys to discuss the setlist. See you tonight and have a great day.
- Tobias

Saturday, March 18, 2006 - Edguy checks in from the road | From the official Edguy website:
Hi there friends,
Just thought I'd send you a short "hello" from a Japanese hotel room. The tour is going fantastic and the mood in the camp is unbelievable. On the flight to Japan we played that game "Who's got a total of 1000 Seven Up cans first is the winner". It's one of those games where you have to choose good tactics, so the stewardess doesn't get wind of that it's just a competition, you got to pretend you're really thirsty. Well, Dirk won. He didn't finish, but when we arrived he'd had two cans, one more than the rest of us.
In case some of you Japanese fans wonder what's that weird red spot on my forehead right between the eyes: No, I am not a married Indian woman, I just hit myself with the microphone by accident during the show in Osaka.
So far so good, don't forget about the forthcoming shows (see dates below). Another show has been confirmed, we are gonna play the main stage at the Graspop festival in Belgium this summer. I don't remember the date right now, but I'll let you know later. Have a great day.
Jens, Dirk, Eggi and Felix say "hi" too. Take care,

Sunday, January 1, 2006 - Edguy news | Here are the latest news from Edguy:
"Right now Edguy are rehearsing for their forthcoming world tour that will feature the band's biggest stage set to date in order to promote the new album "Rocket Ride", out on January 20th. A lot more dates are going to be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
In Europe the limited first edition of Rocket Ride will come out as a book-version featuring a photographic history of the band with never-before-seen pictures from their early days and one bonus track ('Land Of The Miracle' - Live In Brazil).
'I can't tell how happy I am with the new album. The press seems to like it and the material kicks so much ass in the rehearsing room. Of course it's the same old story, same procedure as every year, some people are confused or offended by a few song titles and the artwork, but that's fine with us! That's what metal is supposed to do. Confuse, offend, irritate! Remain exciting and unpredictable!!! The truest and most upright form of art you can get! As long as the music kicks! I think this is by far our best album because we dared a lot on a high quality level. Hellfire Club and Mandrake had balls, Rocket Ride has the testicles about the size of a sperm whale family. Sascha Paeth delivered the best production of his career so far and he can be proud of himself (and he is rich now!).
We wish you all a happy new year, health and complacency. May all your wishes come true. See you on tour in 2006.'

Friday, May 20, 2005 - Edguy DVD details | There's not only a 5-track EP "Superheroes" going to come out this year! Edguy plan to release the first official DVD in September too; featuring different material than what's going to be found on the EP. Besides the video-clip of "Superheroes" the DVD will feature various live-tracks in 5.1 sound filmed at their show in Sao Paulo during their world tour 2004, when the band flew their whole big stage over to Brazil. Furthermore there will be a lot of never-before-seen "behind-the-scenes" footage - they have a camera team filming their recording sessions of the forthcoming EP and album right now. This DVD -that will have plenty of other little features as well- is going to be called "Superheroes - the DVD" and should be out early September.
The band explains: "You asked for it, so we do it! It will be some kind of a 'special-item' for our fans and ourselves to 'soothe the wait' for the new album. We keep you updated on the plans. At this point our record label is considering to change the release date for EP and DVD to September 5th. No problem for us, we are working at full tilt anyway. And it's all feeling so great!" · Discuss this news further (0) |
Thursday, May 12, 2005 - Edguy news | Edguy is hard at work on their forthcoming EP, Superheroes, which is scheduled for a September release through Nuclear Blast. They are currently at Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producer Sascha Paeth.
Here is what Tobias Sammet has to say:
"Working with Sascha is incredibly refreshing. The new shit kicks ass, sounds cheeky at times but always fresh. An up to date production, still pompous and big. On the EP there will be five songs, one is gonna be an overlong up-tempo epic track, which we are maybe gonna invite some of my Avantasia-buddies for to share some vocals with me. This would suit this song so damn well, so it's a must. That being said: we won't need to hype it as an all-star super project, there have been much too many already anyway. And I think the stuff is strong enough to speak for itself." · Discuss this news further (0) |
Monday, February 28, 2005 - Edguy news | Here is an Edguy update from Tobias Sammet:
We are working full-steam on our new EP that is estimated to be released in September. A full length album is to follow early next year. I liked the concept of delivering a big value-for-money thing as the official single last time just like the King Of Fools EP. We got very good response to that and we are so creative at the moment that there will be a lot of material as it seems. We'll see, can't tell too much at this point. But we are working on that one. Anyway, the material sounds good, sound like Edguy, very fresh, very cheeky and of course epic at times. · Discuss this news further (0) |

Wednesday, September 8, 2004 - Edguy news | Tobias Sammet has posted the following update at the band's website:
"Hi there people, It's been quite a while since we talked. But just because you don't get any news doesn't mean that we are being lazy these days. We had a little summer break, which meant some of us have been on vacation and some of us have been working on new material. Anyway, we rehearsed some new stuff and it sounds great, but you're gonna get the chance to check it out next year, I think we're gonna be ready to enter the studio in spring 2005. The first stuff sounds - in my opinion - really pompous, flamboyant and bombastic, but of course that'll be a matter of arrangements. Of course there are some wimpy pussy mid-tempo pop-metal like 'Holy Water' ideas as well!
Anyway, now we are doing the final preparations for the forthcoming leg of the tour that will lead us to North, Central, and South America. New tour dates have also been posted. The reason why we always wait so long with posting new tourdates is that we wanna try to avoid posting dates that are not confirmed by our side yet. Unfortunately some dates as for example in Chile had been ready for confirmation and then been cancelled by the local promoter due to private reasons. Whatever the reasons are, we wish him all the best and hope that our German agency will find a way and come up with postponed dates in Chile.
Mexico had been postponed as well, but it seems that shows will happen there in the middle of October. Keep checking the tour section. We'll always as try to keep you up to date.
For all our German Fans: We have made a last minute decision to play an end-of-tour-show (actually the tour will go on, but not in Germany) to say thank you for your loyalty. It's gonna be on the 27th of November in our hometown of Fulda at the Kreuz-Club. Just hopping on stage, plug in and play for two hours, maybe we're gonna get the chance to play some stuff that we didn't play on tour. However, tickets are gonna be available for 15,- Euro from the 20th of September on, for tickets dial: +49 661 240230.
So, that's it for now, I gotta go back working on my little keyboard and come up with some melodies that are in the back of my head.
Thank you all, have a wonderful week & cheeerzz - Tobias!"

Friday, March 5, 2004 - Hellfire Club bonus tracks | Edguy vocalist Tobias Sammet has posted the following comments about the bonus tracks on their forthcoming album, Hellfire Club:
"The first pressing of the Hellfire Club album will contain two additional songs: no crappy tracks of course, but just real good stuff. One of the bonus tracks is going to be 'Children Of Steel' (version 2003). Originally it had been on our second demo tape of 1994, and we decided to rearrange and re-record it because of the following reasons: First of all it is a proof, that we played this kind of music with all consequences without compromises even when it was totally unfashionable to be a metalhead! Fuck it! When people were laughing about this kind of music and when nobody believed in it we did - we were the Children of Steel! It was way before the huge renaissance of "true" metal. The second reason to redo the song is that we just thought the basics of the song had enormous potential, and with this new version we certainly proved it. It's a song that is just a bonus track for us, but that would certainly have been a highlight on many other metal albums these days, and I'd go so far that I think it would have even been a classic on any of the latest five Iron Maiden albums.
The second bonus track is another version of 'Mysteria', featuring Kreator vocalist Mille Petrozza on vocals together with me. It was great fun, Kreator are friends and this performance shows, that different kinds of metal do not necessarily have to fight each other but can get along pretty well. It also shows that the song does great as a 100% thrash metal rocket too. It was actually planned to be the only version of the song, but because of some business things and the fact that it should have been the opener of the album we decided on doing a second version with me on the vocals which ended up to be the original album version and opening track." · Discuss this news further (0) |
Tuesday, November 4, 2003 - Edguy EP | Edguy has announced details for their upcoming EP, "King of Fools" due to be released February 2nd, 2004. The EP will include five songs listed as follows:
1) King of Fools - 3:30
2) New Age Messiah - 5:58
3) The Savage Union - 4:14

5) Life and Times of a Bonus Track - 3:23

Only one of the songs from the EP will appear on Edguy's forthcoming full length album, Hellfire Club, and according to Tobias it will be different than the version on the EP. · Discuss this news further (0) |
