Vains of Jenna's latest album "The Art of Telling Lies" was honored as a
RevelationZ Magazine album of the year 2009.
If it ain't broke don't fix it! That should have been the career guideline for
Vains of Jenna. However, within the past 12 months singer Lizzy Devine left the band, the band completed a European tour with a new singer and also added Anton Sevholt as guitar player for the tour. Anton Sevholt is now a permanent member making
Vains of Jenna a five piece.
The new vocalist and extra guitarist have provided the band with lots of opportunities, which they seem to embrace. This EP has one new song and 3 re-recorded versions of songs from "The art of Telling Lies" plus 2 remixes. The fresh song
We can Never Die is the first song written with singer Jesse Forte.
We can Never Die is a bit more sophisticated and once again underlines the progression of the band. Somehow the sound and feel reminds me of a James Bond theme.
The swaggering
Everybody Loves you when you are Dead has
not lost its drive. However the best song is
Better Off Alone. Jesse Forte's vocals sound great on the mellow songs and complement Nicki Kin's emotional Les Paul sound. The song builds up for climax peaking with a great guitar solo.
This EP is annoying because it is an appetizer leaving you wanting much more. The song
We can Never Die is excellent and
Vains of Jenna should have re-recorded the entire "The art of Telling Lies" because it sounds like a completely different album with Jesse Forte's vocals compared with Lizzy DeVine.
