You gotta love
Vains of Jenna! Early on these Swedish youngsters moved to L.A. and basically lived the life of every 80's Rock star partying at the Rainbow, playing gigs at The Roxy, The Whisky etc.
In 2006
Vains of Jenna released their brilliant debut album. Since a lot of water has run under the bridge and the follow up has been much anticipated - especially after the single
Enemy in Me had already been featured on a compilation album.
"The art of Telling Lies" is a great album and basically everything has improved within the band; The songs are much better, the production is more solid and Lizzy DeVine, Nicki Kin, JP
White and Jacki Stone have clearly progressed as musicians.
Among highlights is opening song
Everybody Loves you When You're Dead with its drive and swagger. In general the songs have lots of attitude with DeVine's raw vocals wrapped in dirty riffs and leads from Nicki Kin.
I Belong to Yesterday is another great song with a signature riff from Nicki Kin and the structure of the song is great.
Vains of Jenna and producer Brent Woods has worked on creating great emotions on the record. The ballad
Paper Heart has a special atmosphere.
Better Off Alone is a unique
Vains of Jenna song clocking in at more than 5 minutes. The emotional guitar sound is much alike GN'R
Estranged, where Slash created a "whale" sound on his Gibson Les Paul. 3 minutes in the song Nicki Kin uses same effect and builds up for climax peaking with a great guitar solo.
Better Off Alone is solid example that these guys have improved much in their songwriting.
It is all very simple:
Vains of Jenna "The art of Telling Lies" is album of the year.
No Fillers - ALL swaggering sleazy Rock N' Roll!
