"Hellraisers Ball" has previous been released as a Live DVD, but now we are treated to the audio side of the show. The show was recorded at Penningtons, Bradford England April 8
th 2003.
L.A. Guns toured with Enuff Z'Nuff in support of "Waking the Dead". Tracii Guns left the band shortly after "Waking the Dead", so this line up is the first without Mr. Guns. Filling in for Tracii Guns is Kerri Kelli and Brent Muscat.
Phil Lewis is one of last true rock stars on this planet. Phil Lewis is entertaining and while not all his singing is great he has charisma, which you easily sense in this live recording. Lewis' voice has a special rasp and Sleaze anthems like
Never Enough and
One More Reason needs that Phil Lewis rasp to sound authentic.
Compared to
L.A. Guns' most recent live album "Live and Dangerous" this setlist is a bit more varied. While the foundation is the first 2 albums with songs like
Sex Action.
Ballad of Jayne and
Rip and Tear L.A. Guns spoils the crowd with a groovy version of
Kiss My Love Goodbye from "Hollywood Vampires". Furthermore
Beautiful from "Man in the Moon" is aired and along with the rocking
Revolution they are the perfect prove of
L.A. Guns still being relevant today, since they still write great tunes.
Of course I love the classic stuff but bringing
Hellraisers Ball and the nu-classic
Don't Look at me that Way into the set makes this a perfect blend of old and new.
L.A. Guns is the real deal and this recording is raw with no overdubs. This is how Rock N' Roll should be; Entertaining, Sleazy and raw. You get the feeling that you are at the actual show. Phil's rambling between the songs is also included.
Support the real deal. Buy this record or check out the real McCoys on stage!
