DVD Review - L.A. Guns - "Loud and Dangerous" Live from Hollywood
L.A. Guns "Loud and Dangerous" is the visual side to the live album, which was released under the same name about a year ago. For a evaluation of the audio side read review.

Compared to that album the DVD sounds a bit different since there are no touch ups. The sound is raw and we get everything raw and unpolished. The harder live edge suits the songs.

The DVD is characterized by "what you see is what you get". The show is recorded at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood with a 3 cameras - no big production and no edits. My only objection against the live album was the lack of songs from "Tales from the Strip" - the DVD has got it

The highlight are the 3 songs from "Tales from the Strip", which were not included on the audio album. Vampire comes off great live. Stacy Blades plays with feeling and provides some great leads for the song. Blades plays for the song and his selection of notes adds more dimensions to the songs. How come the "Tales from the strip" songs were left off the live album is a mystery, because those songs are so well-written and constructed that they come off great live as well.

Phil Lewis is in vocal topform and he is a great frontman. Phil Lewis plays guitar on a couple of tunes as well, but Blades has single handed lifted the task of replacing 2 guitarists. He also takes over vocals duties on the old Kelly Nickels sung tune Nothing Better to Do. During the solo there is something wrong with Blades´ amp and it makes a high over steered tone. That's one of the reasons why this DVD is so great - we get all the mistakes as well. This is raw in-your-face L.A. Guns they way they should be experienced

All in all L.A. Guns proves that they still are one of the best bands in the genre. They have the songs and certainly also the ammunition with Phil Lewis, who shows no sign of slowing down. Like Lewis says - "We're vampires, this shit keeps you young". Steve Riley is a solid drummer and Blades once again impresses me with his playing. This is also the last we see of Adam Hamilton as bass player in L.A. Guns since he has left the band to focus on studio work.

Priceless moment #1: Phil Lewis says "A lot of people say to me; Phil Lewis! You're so old..... You're so old man. You have been playing for fucking.....for fucking..... Girl... OLD!! ... "How come I keep getting all that young pussy?"

Priceless moment #2: Phil Lewis again when he introduces Stacey Blades "What can I say about Stacey Blades? He has been with us for 3 - 3½ years. We have done 2 fucking great records. I dunno.. So I decided that I was gonna give out his phone number, its...... (You have to get the DVD to get Stacey Blades´ phone number). "Stacey Blades is gonna rock out with his cock out"

Anytime I would go see this act. This is the real deal. "Loud and Dangerous" is a brilliant DVD and highly recommendable. For now the DVD is only available through L.A. Guns´ website, so go directly to www.laguns.net and order this gem.
