L.A. Guns is back with a live album recorded in Hollywood sometime on the recent tour in support of "Tales from the Strip".
Adam Hamilton, Stacy Blades, Steve Riley and Phil Lewis set the record straight with this recording. This version of
L.A. Guns sounds great and "Live and Dangerous" is a better live album than "A nite on the Strip"/"Live Ammo".
Phil Lewis is captured on one of his best days and he sounds on fire. I have never heard him better. Stacey Blades performs the old songs to perfection and keeps the energy plus rawness in his playing, which especially characterized the first
L.A. Guns albums. Blades even gets to do vocals on
Nothing better to do.
While the performance and musicianship is top notch the song selection is a bit disappointing focusing on the first couple of albums only. Luckily there are 2 amazing songs from the underrated "Waking the Dead", but where the hell are the songs from "Tales from the Strip"? That album was so good and the first studio album to feature Stacey Blades, except for the cover album "Rips the covers off", where
Rock N Roll outlaw is taken from.
This is such a great performance but the setlist dwells too much in the past. A double album would have been preferred including songs off "Tales from the strip" since it's a great album.
A must for all
L.A. Guns fans though.
