Don't be fooled! This is not the new
L.A. Guns live CD that is just about to be released on Mascot Records.
"Live Ammo" equals "A Nite On the Strip" repackaged with tastier artwork and re-released in
Europe via Mausoleum records.
In October 1999
L.A. Guns did a reunion tour with the original members Phil Lewis, Tracii Guns, Mick Cripps, Kelly Nickels and Steve Riley. They recorded a show at the Key Club, which was released in 2000 as "A Nite on the Strip" and now in
Europe as "Live Ammo"
The reunion was short since Mick Cripps and Kelly Nickels already bailed out for the extensive summer Tour
L.A. Guns did the year after.
Even though Mick Cripps rejoined for "Man in the Moon"
L.A. Guns in the year 2006 is still going strong but only Lewis and Riley is original members. "Live Ammo" is a nostalgic look at one of the best bands that ruled the sunset strip ever.
Opening with the in-your-face rockers
Face Down, Sex Action and
One More Reason, the original
L.A. Guns underlines that they had a unique punky sleazy edge to their songs that made them classics.
There is something magical about the 5 original members being on stage. Mick Cripps and Tracii Guns' double guitar work is amazing - try listen to
Electric Gypsy. Phil Lewis sounds pretty good as well. He is not the best technical singer, but makes up for it in attitude and emotion. Phil Lewis is a vocalist that you either hate or love - personally I am a huge fan of Phil´s voice.
There are a few flaws since this is a raw honest live recording but the nostalgia of the original band uplifts most of it.
