Thursday, June 16, 2011 - Metallica To Release Album With Lou Reed
Metallica have announced that they will be releasing a collaborative album with rock legend Lou Reed. The statement on the official Metallica website is as follows:

"A few months ago our own Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that's 'not really 100 percent a Metallica record.' While Kirk may have jumped the gun a little (and has since been properly punished with a series of push-ups!), we are more than proud to announce that we have just completed recording a full-length album that is a collaboration with none other than the legendary Lou Reed.

Ever since we had the pleasure of performing with Lou at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October of 2009, we have been kicking around the idea of making a record together. Some of you astute Bay Area residents may have picked up news of recent Lou Reed sightings in the greater San Francisco area and we have indeed been working at our home studio at [Metallica headquarters in San Rafael, California] on and off over the last few months. In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica-related project, we recorded ten songs during this time and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week.

A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou's work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers. We can't wait for you to listen to the finished record, so as we like to hear ourselves say around here, keep watching this spot for updates . . . we'll be back with more details as they come together."

Thursday, June 12, 2008 - Rough mixes of new Metallica album reviewed
Metallica have posted the following message at their official website:

"While we occasionally enjoy reading the various comments, rumors, speculation, reviews, gossip and all the good that the internet brings, rarely do we feel the desire/need to respond to the 'blogosphere' . . . hey, everyone is entitled to have their thoughts and opinions, right? However, once we re-surfaced on Tuesday after a few weeks on tour in Europe, we were informed that someone at Q Prime (our managers) had made the error of asking a few publications to take down reviews of the rough mixes from the new record that were posted on their sites. Our response was 'WHY?!!! Why take down mostly positive reviews of the new material and prevent people from getting psyched about the next record. . . that makes no sense to us!'' So after a few rounds of managerial ear spank and sentencing everyone at Q Prime to 20 push-ups each, we figured why not take matters into our own hands and just post the links here on our site:

Metal Hammer
The Quietus
Kerrang!

You see, we have maintained an 'in the press' section here on Metallica.com for many years now, posting links to reviews of shows, album and DVD releases, and various other tidbits we've come across while surfing around. Some good, some not so good, but we put 'em all up . . . sort of the same way we treat our message boards on this site . . . welcoming all feedback.

So in the spirit of keeping this section current, we've put as many of the reviews of the rough mixes of the new record up here as we could find. If we missed any, let us know . . . and in the meantime, we're always adding, so peruse at your leisure."

Sunday, April 22, 2007 - Beatallica debut news
Think that The Beatles and Metallica are musically worlds apart? Beatallica will prove you wrong, with 'sgt. Hetfield's motorbreath pub band'!

Although the Beatles certainly had some 'heavy' moments ("Helter Skelter," "Revolution" or "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," anyone?), they are certainly not considered a metal band. And on the other side of the coin, Metallica is not considered a pop band. But then along comes Beatallica, and the lines between both acts have been erased - as heard throughout their first official, 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band'. Comprised of members Jaymz Lennfield (vocals, guitar), Grg Hammettson (guitar), Kliff McBurtney (bass), and Ringo Larz (drums), Beatallica has been converting naysayers into believers for years by this point - having made fans throughout the world, and also with such renowned headbangers as Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy and Anthrax's Scott Ian.

Originally coming to the attention of Headbangers everywhere with their initial Internet phenomenon story, the quartet has signed on with Oglio Records, to release 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band' on July 10th. As evidenced by such song titles as "And Justice For All My Loving," "Leper Madonna," and "Ktulu (He's So Heavy)," the quartet's knack for combining both these music giants together remains as sharp as ever. Not just a studio creation, Beatallica has amassed a huge following - known as the Beatallibangers - throughout the world due to their fun, hard rocking live show, as they've played shows with such metal heavy weights as Motorhead, and have even headlined open-air festivals themselves. Further U.S. and Euro live dates beckon, as well as video clips for "Revol-ooh-tion" and "A Garage Dayz Nite."

Complete tracklisting for 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band':
1. Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band
2. Revol-ooh-tion
3. Blackened In The U.S.S.R.
4. Sandman
5. Helvester of Skelter
6. A Garage Dayz Nite
7. Anesthesia (I'm Only Sleeping)
8. Leper Madonna
9. Ktulu (He's So Heavy)
10. For Horsemen
11. Hey Dude
12. Sgt. Hetfield's (Reprise)
13. And Justice For All My Loving

Monday, March 19, 2007 - It's Official: Metallica Is A Girl!
A Swedish court has ruled that the parents of a seven-month-old girl in Kungälv, Sweden can name their child Metallica, according to the Swedish newspaper GP. The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names. After picking Metallica and checking twice with the Swedish tax agency Skatteverket if the name was acceptable, they were told that it shouldn't be a problem since there is already a girl in Sweden called Metallica. When they filed Metallica as one of three first names, the Skatteverket suddenly objected, claiming that the name was inappropriate because a famous hard rock band bears that name and the fact that it's too close to the word "metal." The parents filed an appeal with the district court, which has now ruled that the use of the name won't pose any problems for either the girl or anyone that she comes in contact with. One member of the jury objected to the ruling, claiming that the name probably will cause discomfort to whomever bears it.

Thursday, March 15, 2007 - News from Metallica
Metallica have issued the following update:

"Metallica left the comfort of HQ this week to descend upon the greater Los Angeles area to begin recording their 9th original album. This is the first time they've recorded outside of the Bay Area since they spent an eternity at One-On-One Studios recording The Black Album in '90 and '91. The last couple days have been devoted to each band member working out the right sounds, including Lars who remembered to turn on the snare and Kirk who played a solo! The big, shiny red button was finally pushed today - and the wait begins."

Metallica's new album will be entitled St. Anger and a date for 10 June is set. James Hetfield comments:

"For us, this new album is like re-visiting early innocent feelings but incorporating our experience. It is like starting over in a way... this album is so chock full of energy, and lyrically, it is deeper than it's ever been because it is involving all the other guys."

The bass parts on the album have been played by producer Bob Rock. No name for a full time bassist has been announced yet. The band hits the road this summer in both USA and Europe.

Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - Metallica plays in parking lot
Metallica playing a parking lot before Raiders AFC Championship game.

The idea was hatched moments after the AFC playoff pummeling of the New York Jets, lifelong Raider (and Metallica frontman/guitarist) James Hetfield getting wild notions of flatbed trucks in parking lots with loud PAs, the Raiders themselves digging the idea and the hearty Metallica crew scrambling like Rich Goddam Gannon to make it work.

Songs played:

"Fuel"
"Master Of Puppets"
"Sad But True"
"For Whom The Bells Tolls"
"Seek & Destroy"
"Battery
