Pegazus play classic metal with their own direct, but still varied and pretty detailed style.
Wings Of Steel is a typical
Pegazus song. Raw guitar riff, central chorus and a hard mid-tempo rhythm.
The cool melodic guitar lead in the middle of the song works well.
Cry Out is one of the fastest songs on the album. The lyric is very good, about standing for what you are and getting through hard times. The guitar lead is fast and melodic and I love the detailed drums. The songs relies a bit much on the chorus bit still a good song with some great guitar harmonies.
All about
Pegazus is very classic Metal and their basic approach is a bit like
Judas Priest and Hammerfall.
The lyrics are about fantasy, magic, and historical episodes but also songs about personal issues and dreams and society critical stuff are touched on. I think the lyrics work fine with the musical side.
The albums best track is the astonishing
Enchanted Worlds. There is just something epic and huge about that 8-minute track. It begins aggressively but has a lot of variation and great atmospheric parts before it ends.
The drum solo in the middle is an element that is not heard often, but I think it rules here. Danny Cerati sings with huge power and emotion. That man has a fantastic voice.
The song has lots of varied moments and the ending chorus parts are genius.
Braveheart and
Mother Earth are two mid-tempo songs that are above average.
Braveheart has a very dominant guitar lead section that is a bit overdone, but the technical drums are a plus.
Mother Earth starts slowly in a great atmospheric way, but the main rhythm is a bit standard and not very exciting.
The album has a pretty fast instrumental track
Life On Mars. Nothing really special and with some strange noises, but still melodic and fitting into the whole.
The Werewolf features a great guitar riff from Johnny Stoj, a fast direct song. Not one of the best, but it seems to me that there isn't any bad songs one the album, every song has something good to offer. Anyway, the last four songs I mentioned are the ones that are just above average, and that is quite a lot for an album with nine songs.
Witches Hex one of my favourites. It has just the right mystic atmosphere created by acoustic guitar. It also has a great guitar solo and the slow part sets the right mood.
The last song
Destiny is one of those songs that give me shivers down my spine. The vocal performance is simply stunning and the lyric is well written. The piano parts makes a great break in the album's overall direct and hard approach. Towards the end a raw break sets in and a cool guitar solo is played. A very sensitive song with a brilliant melodic chorus.
The production is pretty good. The drums are a bit raw and there could have been more depth in the overall feeling of the sound. The instruments and vocals come out clear and the details are to be heard without problems.
The musical performance is overall very good, as I have commented. The bass is too hidden and does not have many interesting parts to play. It nevertheless lays the right fundament in the songs and does its job with the drums.
Well, an album with four above standard, two good, one great and two fantastic tracks. The varied epic stuff could have been explored more, making some of the not that great songs better.
Overall this is classic Metal with detail, power, melody, emotion and atmosphere.
