Thursday, September 4, 2008 - Savatage news from Chris Caffery
News from Chris Caffery:

"Hi all,

If you check my top friends you will see an official Savatage page. There have been a few pages going by the Savatage name but this is the first one that is being handled by us in the band.

I hope you will spread the word and we are also going to update Savatage.com very soon. We are hoping to add some new and classic merchandise as well as give you some exciting news about future events. It has been a very long time since Savatage has updated the site so we figured this year of 'Change' was as good as any!

I am heading to California in the morning to meet and go over some designs for this site as well as a re-design for ChrisCaffery.com. Marc 'Rock Star' Kancler will be handling this. I am going in the studio on Thursday with Mr. Bob Kulick to record some lead guitars for RIPPER OWENS' new solo CD. This I am very excited for. I wrote the music for a song called 'The Shadows Are Alive'. Very metal, I think you will all enjoy this for sure!

When I get home I will rehearse my band for my shows in September and then be getting ready for the departure for TSO-land... the show this year will be even larger than last year... yes folks, it may not seem possible, but Paul will make sure of this!

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the Gulf Coast and with family and friends there. I know things have just begun to settle down from Katrina, I hope this is not as bad for New Orleans.

Things are great on the House Of Insanity front. The CD will be finished and mastered by my deadline of October 1st to ensure an October release on iTunes. I know many of you still do not do the digital thing. I am planning a limited run of CDs and possibly vinyl for the month of November. The official street date is February 9th, 2009. But as I have said, I promised to get this thing out in 2008 and I want to make sure the fans who really want it can get it!

Thanks again for all of your support and I will talk to you from the West Coast soon!

Peace!
Chris"

Wednesday, December 19, 2007 - Jon Oliva Issues Statment On Future Of Savatage
Jon Oliva has issued the following statement:

"Hi, this is Jon Oliva, and I would like to set the record straight regarding any Savatage reunion tour rumors. After careful consideration by management, former band members and myself, I would like to release this official statement regarding Savatage:

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is growing at an amazing rate. Our second non-Christmas record (Nightcastle) will be released later this year. Following that, TSO will immediately begin recording it's next Christmas record while also planning year-round touring and possible overseas performance.

Due to increasing demand for the TSO brand, Savatage is unable to plan any future concert appearances. TSO has become a year-round responsibility and it is impossible to shut down this massive operation in order to perform any Savatage shows.

Jon Oliva's Pain is the vehicle for the continued release and performance of my metal music. It requires the balance of my time and energy, and I am happy to be recording and touring with such talented musicians. Our third CD, Global Waning, will be released in Europe via AFM Records in mid-April 2008. Jon Oliva's Pain is as close to Savatage as you can get.

I hope this puts to rest any more speculation about the availability of Savatage in the future. Should you have any further questions please direct your emails to me at ckindercrash@hotmail.com or send a message to webmaster@jonoliva.net.

Thand, and we look forward to bringing the "Pain" to you for many years to come.

Sincerely, Jon Oliva."

Sunday, August 20, 2006 - Criss Oliva "Lost" Material to surface
In a recent interview with Rocksomething.com, Jon Oliva revealed that a lot of the songs on the forthcoming JOP album, Maniacal Renderings, were co-written with Oliva's brother Criss, who was killed in 1993 in a car accident. The following is an excerpt from the story:

"Writing's not as enjoyable and it's a lot harder without Criss," Oliva admits. "After the accident, Savatage started to get away from the formula that we had going. We struggled to find the right balance and on "Hand Full of Rain" we beat our formula into the ground. I was feeling like we were getting into a rut and I decided to get away from that. The big difference [on "Maniacal Renderings"] is that Criss Oliva co-wrote some of the songs."

The obvious question, of course, is how did that come to be?

"My wife found a shoe box packed away and there were a bunch of tapes that had riffs that me and Criss had been working on," explains the frontman, "I owe my wife a big 'thankyou'. She came over to me one day with this shoe box and said ,'Jon is this important?'. I thought it was just a box of shoes, but no, it was all this lost stuff, a lot of cassettes, some as early as 1979 and some that had been recorded just before he passed away. Listening to the tapes was like working with him again, which blows me away. To hear him talking again on tape, I tell you, I'm still walking ten feet in the air!"

Fans excited by this extraordinary find will also be pleased to note that there's a lot more where that came from too.

"There are about 35 cassettes and I've only got through three or four so far. I'm gonna use as much as I can in the future," Oliva claims. "There's lots of jamming and then I'll hear something great and realise we never made that into a song. So Criss co-wrote some of the songs on the new album which alone makes it worth checking out."

Savatage guitarist Chris Caffery, who recently released his solo debut Faces/God Damn War, will be putting out an EP around the Christmas Holidays. Here is the latest on that release:

Tomorrow I am going to do final demos on 'Election Day' and 'Home Is Where The Hell Is'....trying to get the schedule to record the final War stuff before the TSO tour...rehearsal begins next week!!!!"

Monday, August 16, 2004 - Jon Oliva announces release date for 'Tage Mahal
Due to possible trade-name conflicts and to avoid "consumer confusion" and probably even lawsuits, the name of Oliva's solo project has been changed to Jon Oliva's Pain. The title of the record will be called 'Tage Mahal. The bands management realized that there is an established blues artist in Europe who has been using a similar band name for decades.

The solo debut release date for Savatage mastermind, Jon Oliva, has been set for October 25 in Europe and October 26 in the US.

SPV Records will handle distribution worldwide. SPV has expressed incredible enthusiasm for this release after listening to the final master a few weeks ago. Final artwork and packaging is being completed with a massive promotional campaign to begin shortly. An extensive US and European tour will follow soon after. This record is the first installment of a 3-part series which will be followed by a box set release which will include all 3-releases, a live DVD, along with live and studio outtakes from both the recording sessions and the tours to follow.

Jon Oliva's Pain will debut the new material live at the sold-out Prog-Power V Metal Festival in Atlanta, Georgia on September 16. Also appearing that night will be a performance by Savatage members, both past and present!

Friday, March 5, 2004 - Jon Oliva renames solo project
"Jon Oliva's 'Tage Mahal" is now the official name for the solo project of Savatage mastermind, Jon Oliva.

Although "The JOP" (Jon Oliva Project) was an easy way for fans to associate it with Jon, the band has been looking for a variety of creative ways to promote the new record and thought the name didn't leave much to the imagination. Along with the name change, The web-site will be undergoing a series of changes in the coming weeks to reflect the name and the attitude of the new record.

'Tage Mahal will be performing a "sneak preview" of the new record at Prog-Power V in Atlanta, GA. on September 16 & 17. This is the premier metal festival in the US. Make your plans to be there and remember that this show sold out in under 2 weeks last year. Tickets go on sale May 1. Further information can be found at: www.progpowerusa.com

'Tage Mahal is currently in week 2 of recording. Jon is joined, both in the studio and on tour, by the former members of Circle II Circle: Chris Kinder, Kevin Rothney, Matt LaPorte and John Zahner. The album is scheduled for a late spring/early summer release.

Further information regarding Jon Oliva's "Tage Mahal" can be found at the official site.

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 - Chris Caffery solo album news
Chris Caffery (Savatage) has revealed more details about his upcoming debut solo album, "Faces", due in September through Greece's Black Lotus Records.

The two-disc set will consist of two parts, one called "Faces" and the other "God Damn War". "When you open the CD box, 'Faces' will be on the left, 'God Damn War' on the right," says Caffery. "Similar to a mini box set, where there is a fold in the package. 'Faces' will be 16 songs, all pertaining to myself lyrically and personally. It is about 80 minutes long and very schizophrenic. Dark, light, happy, sad, funny....my 'Faces'... 'God Damn War' is 10 songs...it is a brutally heavy war opus. In feel, it resembles 'The Wall'. Yes, it is a concept CD. But a concept CD of many different faces."

According to Caffery, "God Damn War" will feature a "story" which will "tie the songs together and make it flow like a rock opera. . . Its main concept is for me to get a chance to make the one heavy metal CD I never had a chance to make. I love SAVATAGE. I love DOCTOR BUTCHER...BUT, I never had a chance to get all of my love for heavy metal out of my system. Not that this would be the last heavy thing I would do...BUT I just feel I have to record this CD now. It will hit you like 10 tons of bricks. BEWARE..."

Sunday, December 7, 2003 - Jon Oliva solo project
Jon Oliva, founder member and mastermind of Savatage, has embarked on a new adventure. Jon has been writing material for a solo album for several years and has now begun the process of bringing that music to life. Jon has recruited the former members of CircleIICircle to peform a series of concerts showcasing his new solo material as well as classic Savatage material. Some of that Sava-material has never been performed live on stage, so this will be a real treat for Sava-fans everywhere. Jon's voice is in excellent shape and he is handling all the lead vocal duties at these shows. The response from the fans at these first shows has been nothing short of incredible. Some will remember Jon debuting some of his new material at the Criss Oliva Memorial Concert back in October. Jon is also toying with the idea of taking this show on the road in the US and possibly overseas. It is likely that the band (Matt Laporte-guitar, Kevin Rothney-bass, Christopher Kinder-drums, and John Zahner-Keyboards) will return to the studio with Jon to record more tracks for this solo project. Sorry, but there is no information available on a possible release date. Check the website for updates !!

Upcoming Show:

Friday December 12th @ Liquid Blue-Clearwater FL.

Tuesday, August 20, 2002 - The next Savatage album
The new album of Savatage is well under way and it is will be a return to the dual vocals they used in the past. Mr Oliva said that: "Savatage with Damond is a more aggressive band. Damond is much more aggressive than Zakk; he brings different things to the table for what we're looking to do in the future. He's very versatile. He covers my stuff perfectly, and when he covers Zakk's stuff, if I close my eyes I can't tell the difference. We've discovered some great things about Damond's voice, so it'll make the new record a lot better. The fans have accepted him, and he's brought some youth into the band which has been a real kick in the ass for the rest of us. We're in preproduction right now, just compiling material that Chris and I have written. We're back to two voices, splitting the material evenly. As far as direction goes, I think half the record is pretty much going to be what Savatage fans expect, and the other half is going to wander in directions that I've been experimenting with. I've been playing with string instruments and tuning guitars to them, and it's weird because you have to learn how to play guitar again. But, once you find the chords you end up with some really interesting overtones. There will be symphonics, but they'll have more of an edge, especially with Damond in the band."

Other information
A band that made some of the most fantastic works in Metal history. Tragically their brilliant guitarist Criss Oliva died in 1993. Up to this time they had released stunning works like the concept Streets - A Rock Opera, music filled with emotion and drama.

Another brilliant release is the touching Dead Winter Dead about the Yugoslavian Civil War.

Their style is Metal with symphonic elements and excellent melodies. The themes they take up in their songs like love, war, personal problems and finding your place in this world are very important and highly relatable.
