Thunder playing their annual Christmas show at Rock City
Thunders Christmas show = equal entertainment
Singer Danny Bowes welcomes the crowd by explaining what this show is about "
We are gonna play a lot of songs you don't know"- "Play lots of weird and wonderful versions of songs that we don't normally get to play". At the Christmas shows
Thunder airs some of the obscure
Thunder songs along with cover versions. Again the set is split between an acoustic and electric set.
The acoustic set emphasizes on my personal
Thunder favorite "Laughing on Judgment day".
The Moment of Truth and
Long Way from Home are delivered along with the powerful
Does it feel like love. If you look at the setlist I can reveal that it is indeed a cover version of the old classic
Love the one you're with (great female backing and warm keys) and yes it is Fleetwood Mac's
Go You Own Way. Marvelous! The band also displays a Bowes/Morley song but the most surprising cover is The Who's
Substitute since it features Luke Morley on lead vocals and he does a great job.
The electric set features a breathtaking version of
Preaching from a Chair. The lyrics still put a smile on my face and the emotions of the music still puts shivers down my spine.
Blown Away is a good song, but it suffered from being on "Shooting at the Sun
", which had so many highlights
. The cover versions of Rolling Stones and Golden Earring are flawless - done
Thunder style.
Every time I hear the stripped back Christmas shows singer Danny Bowes amazes me. His voice has unique glow and blues feel, which makes him one of the best singers in Britain (if not the best since his voice elder like fine wine)
Tradition and Entertainment and
Thunder. A perfect cocktail!
