7thorns - Artificial Night (Demo)
7thorns is something as rare as a Danish Power Metal act, and a very good one, I might add! This demo consists of only two, very long songs, Artificial Night and Metal Will Show You The Way.

The style of 7thorns is melodic Power Metal with lots of bombastic keyboard work, strong vocals, double kick drums and intense and melodic riffing. Certainly very well performed and appealing. Singer Thomas is a strong card to hold for the relatively new band, he has a real strong voice and sings with attitude and a strong sense for the melodic nature of the material.

Artificial Night has a very nice melody, great melodic riffs and a happy sounding catchy chorus. All the necessary ingredients to make a good, classic Power Metal tune, and if you add to that a strong vocal performance and a good dose of bombastic keyboards, you'll get a good idea about how this sounds. One thing I miss a little bit is for singer Thomas to cut a little bit more loose. The true strength of his voice is showing best when he really screams or go into highpitch, so more of that. Other than that, cool song!

Metal Will Show You The Way is my favorite on the demo, with its melodic appeal and memorable refrain. This is Power Metal as it should be! Except the fact, that it could have been cut down a bit in length. The song has a really strong way of building up to the chorus and a semi-symphonic use of keyboard, which really enhances the overall impression. The guitar work is also great, varied and competent.

The only negative aspect of both songs is their length. Really, the material is great, but there are not enough ideas in either of the songs for around 7 minutes of duration. I would have preferred three or four songs of the half length, because honestly it does get a bit too trivial in the end. One short, straight-ahead rocker wouldn't have hurt the overall impression either.

Also, I would have liked a few more songs on the demo. Two songs are not enough to get a full picture of these guys, and I will certainly look forward to hearing more stuff from them. The potential is there, for sure!

Both songs on this demo are available in full length at 7thorns.dk">www.7thorns.dk. Go check 'em out!
