Dio - RevelationZ Top 20 Dio Tracks - A Tribute
Tuesday, June 8, 2010
I was walking around the day I was run over by the news that not only one of my heroes died, but somebody I felt to know without ever having met him personally - stepping kind of stuck somewhere trying to pick up all the personal memories that will forever go on with Ronnie James Dio's tunes. "Man On The Silver Mountain" and "Rainbow In The Dark" were included on my first self-made mix-cassette back in 86 - the Iron Mix. Me and the other eleven to twelve year old kids played that mix afternoon after afternoon... in our village they had these "Heavy Metal Discos" midddle/ end of the eighties and every night they finally played "Holy Diver" (right before sending the people home with "Stairway To Heaven"!) ... my first guitarrist and I used to do lil acoustic sessions everywhere we stranded and a guitar was in reach (e.g. LA, Ireland, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bibione, Amsterdam) "Temple Of The King" was one of the killers ... I saw Dio first live on tour with Motörhead back in '91 and the sheer presence and power of his voice in songs like "Naked In The Rain", "Don't Talk To Strangers", "Still I'm Sad" ... made me literally shiver. And I definitely freaked out last year to "Die Young", "Time Machine" or "Falling Off The Edge Of The World". The charming inclusion of every single person in the audience just as it was a private party made every Dio-concert a special and never to be forgotten event. Balingen: "Hey, kennsch Du Dio?" He played an extra long version of "Sign Of The Southern Cross" that night. By listening to the songs over and over and over again I always find some new hidden moments, treasures, depth ... For the Metal scene this is more than a tragedy. This guy was more than just a Metal singer. Dio was the incarnation of Heavy Metal in its best possible way. But I believe if we listen close enough, and I don't wanna sound pathetic, the magic will live on. I will do my best to pass on the spirit to the younger ones. There's a crack in the rainbow ... there's a hole in the sky ... Born On The Sun.

Various Artists - Live Report - Stockholm Rock Out - May 1st 2010
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
Well done. Good to have had you there delivering the taste of an event that must have come near the expectations before the "full" happening. Man, that Shotgun Messiah thing ... wish I could have seen it, also Tigertailz and XYZ. But 99% I will fly over to Stockholm in September not to miss Great White, Pretty Boy Floyd, Dirty Penny and foremost the "obscure" Keel who gave us the Right To Rock decades ago. Very keen on the rest of the billing and hoping to see ya in September.
Gruezze D.

Giant - Promise Land

Excellent rev. Saw it right the same way. Hope to catch 'em live.

W.A.S.P. - Live at Kulturbolaget, Malmö, Sweden - November 3rd, 2009.
Sunday, February 14, 2010
Hey Nina, fine review. As I visited all the tours except this one I now could kill myself for not buying a ticket. So many surprises in the setlist: The Real Me (not played for 4 years), Arena Of Pleasure (I only thought it would appear in the Crimson Idol set and then vanish again) and what a Medley. Never heard Scream Until You Like It live. Hope to see Mr. Gesetzlos play some of these tunes in Wacken this year. Is anybody going to be there with me?
Gruezze Dennis.

Babylon Bombs - Babylon's Burning
Thursday, November 26, 2009
Hey Michael, it's been a while. My total agreement to your review. The album has that specific Cinderella-vibe not many bands nowadays manage to capture and yep, no fillers. I even would have given it 8,5 points. Favourites: "Rattle My Bones", "It's Allright", "Winding Road" and "Nobody's Home". Without any doubt one of my top-five releases this year and the wish for a Cinderella/BB-package in 2010 (if Swaint recovers). Thumbs up, see ya, Gruezze, Dennis.

Crash Kelly - One More Heart Attack
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Impersonal Glitter Rock Machine. The litlle sister of Lavatory Love Machine. Anyway. Listened to the album, too cause I really liked 'Electric Satisfaction' which was in some kind of way more balanced, and yes, not that polished up. However, there are some fine pieces on the new record. E.g. Fallin' In And Out, Thrash Talk and foremost Jenny Jet. I hope the band rediscovers the Rocka Rolla attitude. It is always a question of the production, too. Not that much 'Metal' on the record.

Magic Circle Festival 2008 - Stuart's Festival Report - Days 3 & 4
Tuesday, August 12, 2008
So here we got the next promising Scottish shortstory writer. Excellent work. Should have taken a while..., but I really enjoyed readin'. Same goes for the Swedenrock-report. Smells like nightshifting...;-) Just as Steens report and this one pulled out: There must have been magic during the Manowar shows. Would have been worth the Euros. Big laugh: AND IF I DON'T HEAR THE SOUND OF METAL, I GO INTO SHOCK. I hope he heard it and you did not get paralysed in front of the stage! Just got back from an outstanding Headbangers Openair. Take this one in consideration for next year. Never been on a festival that underground and true. Planning to go to KIT XI with Flotsam and Jetsam, Forte, Artillery, Tokyo Blade, Girlschool, Nasty Savage, Hellhound, et al. If somebody is interested... take care, D.t.M.

Sweden Rock Festival 2008 - Michael's Festival Report
Monday, July 7, 2008
So ya dislike female vocals? I should tell Miss Pesch the next time she's around. On the whole you saw the festival almost the same way I did with RATT (!!!!), Poison, Hanoi Rocks in front of an outstanding weekend. Nobody mentioned the superb shows of Satyricon (sharp, evil, black, skilled), Ministry (they had a steel cage built around the stage and even played "Jesus Built My Hotrod") and Sweet Savage who kinda started the festival in the tent on Thursday by playin' almost every song from "Killing Time". I agree with you and Steen about Halford's voice problems, but that was something I expected and it did not stop me to become priestified that day, Judas Priest - Metal! Avantasia was great although I had to save the little rest of my energy for the Poison party which was a good choice. Still banged to "Sign Of The Cross" or "Farewell". I even enjoyed the Leppard show although I am not what you can call a die-hard supporter. It just felt right at that time of the day to be confronted with the Defs and their 80s disco-hits which brought back warm youth-memories. One of the best things about Swedenrock is the relaxed atmosphere and audience. You have to search very long to find a comparable festival in this category (Maybe Headbangers, we'll see.) And not that much teenagers as expected...

"Teenage vacation in a pimped brandnew car,
a pick-up in the rearview-mirror: the law.
Stoppin' stoopidos guess.'No need to run.'
Now you are roadkill hunting season's begun.

And he goes: Thank you for takin' a rest,
for one last breather, who's first who is next.
So would you please be so kind to stay down.
Mmmmmmmmh ... I smell raw flesh ...
the Marshall's in town." ;-)))

And by the way:
To name five again (as we did at some point?),
Cinderella (doubts)
Van Halen
Warrant (even more doubts after the Nevada desaster)
Kix
and a reunited strong going Mötley Crüe.

Sweden Rock Festival 2008 - Steen's Festival Report
Friday, July 4, 2008
HeyHo Stuart,
well the finals ... silence ....
Unfortunately no chance to circle the magic way. Too busy, but I am so jealous. The Coop, the Lawless and the first six albums. Hell yeah, this is gonna be something. Singalong for me too, I'll open my window Saturday night and scream as loud as I can "Herz aus Stahl", direction Bad Arolsen. Have fun!

Sweden Rock Festival 2008 - Steen's Festival Report
Thursday, July 3, 2008
Oh yep, and we did a lot of sing-a-longs! Photopass truely was worth it. Maybe some of the best shots ever on Revelationz (Avantasia, Primal Fear, Sabaton - damn I missed them). Readin' the report is always the cozy journey back in time when the real memories seem to fade away and become only spotlights. For me this years Swedenrock was the best festival in the last 12 years although my highlights differ pretty much from yours. The only negative five minutes were when I was informed that Sebastian Bach wouldn't play (You read his letter to the fans?) and that is nothing in comparison to 4 and a half days of Metal, party, Kung, toyguns, coffee and coffee, Big Burgers, Painkillers, Animals, Fallen Angels, Wanted Men, Marshall-Stars, Fashion, Ice-Cream, the Turbojugend, Reapers, Jailbreaks, Scottish who standed the Ramones-test, Savage Irish, evil Norwegians, Sleazerock on every corner, SUN and STEEL! Everybody who was not there this year really missed out a rememberable event. And yes, it just has started.

Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F. and Born too Loose (The best of Johnny Thunders)
Saturday, February 9, 2008
Me, too. I was at a concert of the German band Die Toten Hosen one day after Johnny died. The special thing about that evening was that the band had recorded a cover version of 'Born to Loose' along with Johnny several weeks before that concert (find it on the Learning English Lesson 1-album) and still was shocked 'cause of his death. They dedicated the whole evening to Johnny and played many tunes just like Seven Day Weekend, Just Another Girl, Too Much Junkie Business, Sad Vacation, Lonely Planet Boy and of course Born to Loose. They rearranged the lyrics of their own song Das Wort zum Sonntag to pay tribute to one of their main influences. Very emotional evening. Would be an interesting thing to see the renewed version of the Dolls with Sammy Yaffa on the same bill with Hanoi Rocks...

None - Staff Main Page - Steen
Saturday, February 9, 2008
HeyHo Steen,
hope that everybody is doing fine and still rockin' the cradles up in Denmark. Wacken is on my agenda and also the Headbanger's OpenAir in Itzehoe which is takin' place one week before WOA. This is gonna mean hard struggle. Furthermore I read the Poison news this week so there is no chance of not flying to Sweden this year. And I mean Priest is on the bill along with Testament Blue Öyster Cult, Carcass, Ministry and so on. Got some problems (that hopefully will be solved soon) with ordering a ticket 'cause I do not own a Master- or Visa-Card, and contacted the Swedenrock-office. Hope to see ya in June (3 days or 4?), greetingz to everybody, Dennis.
