Friday, April 22, 2011 - Kamelot - Roy Khan Officially Leaves Kamelot | Roy Kahn has posted the following message on his MySpace Page.
"Dear fans and friends,
There have been a lot of speculations around why I am not touring with Kamelot and I want to make a statement although it may not prevent further guessing as to what's actually going on. It is a fact however that I told the guys in the band already last fall (well after my burnout) that I was leaving the band. Naturally enough they were shocked (as was the label and everyone else working with Kamelot). In addition to risk of dropping ticket sales they wanted to give me time to think things over, and so I did. My decision still stands; It is finished.
I am currently spending time with my family in Norway taking it easy and wondering profoundly what the future is going to bring. Communication with the outer world has been so and so, but I have had several talks with Thomas (Youngblood) along the way although I am still called in sick. I am terribly sorry that my decision is affecting so many others and I want you to know I wish the band and associates all the best for the future and that I enjoyed every second in the spotlight. How could I not...they were nourished by the best fans in the world! I am eternally thankful for everything you and Kamelot have given me and equally sorry that it has to end here. The good news is; God was there after all...
Love you to death!!!
All the best and so long."
Kamelot has since issued their own statement, which reads as follows:
"With a heavy heart we can now announce that Roy Khan has chosen to leave the band. We wanted to give him ample time for this kind of decision, due to his recent burnout and also the amount of amazing times we have shared with him in Kamelot. We respectfully accept his resignation from the band and wish him the best in his future endeavors. The timing is actually good since we feel the uncertainty the fans have had can now be laid to rest and the band can move on to finding a new singer."
"The tour is going great so far and the fans have been amazing throughout this entire process" adds keyboardist Oliver Palotai. With the new tour already in progress, Kamelot has already begun the search for a new vocalist.
"I have a few guys in mind," said band founder Thomas Youngblood. "And as you can imagine, it is a very important decision. There are some amazing singers that have already contacted us on this but we will take our time to find the right person."
Due to the overwhelming success of the recent shows in South America, we are pleased to announce new shows in November / December for Europe (stay tuned).
*The band headlines the Print de Temps Festival tonight and will play a Amsterdam (nearing sold-out) concert tomorrow followed by a full headliner tour with special guests EVERGREY, AMARANTHE and SONS OF SEASONS.
(*Guest vocalists Fabio Lione and Tommy Karevik)
Thank you for your support and see you on tour!!" · Discuss this news further (4) |

Monday, June 21, 2010 - New Kamelot Album Details Released | earMUSIC, the international rock label of the Hamburg-based entertainment group Edel, has announced the signing of American/Norwegian melodic metallers Kamelot. The band's new studio album, "Poetry For The Poisoned", will be released in Europe on September 3, 2010. Throughout the recent years, Kamelot's releases have achieved cult status around the world, and "Poetry for the Poisoned" will "once again raise the bar for others to follow," according to a press release. "The new studio album blends their trademark Kamelot sound with new elements and a creation of musical art that will set a new standard in the genre."
"Poetry for the Poisoned" was mostly written in the remote woods of Norway to the final songwriting sessions in a remote region of Germany. The compositions take the listener through many emotions and dynamics that touch the soul and the mind.
"I think this album is by far our most diverse, fusing new ideas and elements along with the traditional Kamelot sound and style that we have established over the years," states Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood.
Recordings took place in the familiar Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany with producers Sascha Paeth and Miro. Additional tracking also took place in Tampa, Florida as well as various studios in Sweden, Greece and the U.S.
"Poetry for the Poisoned" features guest appearances by Simone Simons (Epica), Gus G. (Ozzy Osbourne, Firewind), Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork) and Jon Oliva (Savatage, Jon Oliva's Pain). The artwork was created by many artists, including Seth Siro Anton, Natalie Shau and Michal Loranc.
"'Poetry for the Poisoned' is a mix of progressive elements, modern rock, dark arts and also power metal," states Youngblood. "It comes at a time where many people around the world are searching for something to grab on to spiritually, including myself. I recently lost my mother and to be honest it was very hard on me. So there are some melancholy moods reflected on this album."
Frontman Roy Khan assures that "Poetry for the Poisoned" will both please the band's existing following and expose the universe of Kamelot to a whole range of new fans. "'Poetry for the Poisoned' is our longest and toughest production so far, but when I hear the result I know it was well worth the struggle," he says.
Max Vaccaro, director of the earMUSIC label, commented: "If there is one thing that is absolutely clear with kamelot, it's that the band has a unique vision of metal and they consider anything they do as the 'next step' to something bigger and better, constantly adamant to reach new ambitious artistic targets. We're happy about the fact that they have chosen earMUSIC as the partner to expand their audience with this new wonderful album."
"Poetry For The Poisoned" will also be available as a limited edition hard-cover digipak CD with a bonus DVD, LP and limited collector's edition featuring a bonus 45" vinyl with two rare songs only available on this strictly limited format, personally signed by the band. · Discuss this news further (1) |

Wednesday, April 19, 2006 - Kamelot news | Latest news from Kamelot:
Hi All,
Lots going on this year for the band, we are finishing the editing and mixing of our first DVD "One Cold Winter's Night" that we shot in Oslo this February. It was truly a night to remember for us and we hope all of you. We are hoping for a release just after Summer. I have just previewed a few clips from director Patric Ulleaus and I can say we will all be very happy with the result.
We are also working on our first Anthology titled "Lunar Sanctum", it will be a double CD that features some choice songs from our back catalog as well as bonus tracks and two live cuts from our headliner show in Tokyo supporting "The Black Halo".
We will be playing a few festivals this Summer including Walrock and Ragnarock as well as a special one off performance in the city of Helmond, Netherlands. On top of this we can now confirm the second round of North American tour dates starting in September. Our good friends Epica will be the special guest support act and we are expecting some very memorable nights on this tour. All the dates are now posted on the Kamelot.com site as well as our new myspace.com/kamelot page.
I can't forget to mention that we are starting the writing sessions for the follow up to The Black Halo! We have lots of ideas for this one and the direction would seem to be a little darker and heavier. I will be in Norway again and this time a very quiet and private mountain side cabin has been booked, no email, no tv, no outside influences. We will follow up the Norway sessions with a long session here in Florida and a very intense preproduction with longtime friend and producer Sascha Paeth. We hope to be laying down the final tracks by July/August. We have some titles set aside for the new album but we have lots of time for this. I am itching to get started!! Stay cool and thanks to all of you for your Karma and support!

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 - Kamelot news | The following was posted on the official Kamelot Website:
"At the moment we are still working on shows for Dec/Jan, we wanted to take a short hiatus due to Glenn Barry's new baby coming this month. I do not want to announce anything until we have confirmation. Also, I am going to the Norwegian countryside in October for the first part of the songwriting sessions for the new album. We were not sure whether the next album would be a non-concept release but after long discussions we all agree that the yet untitled release will be the 2nd part of Epica, we are excited about finishing the 2nd part story line for Epica. It was important for us to write the music fresh with new ideas and influences. Expect another level from Epica 1!"
