Destruction - Metal Discharge
After seeing this amazing band deliver an outburst of aggressive Thrash Metal live some years ago, I got into the first album since the infamous reunion of Destruction, called All Hell Breaks Loose. With this album, I started to see what the big deal concerning Thrash was all about. The follow up album, The Antichrist, lived up to what I could have expected after this, so I was awaiting Metal Discharge with great excitement. And let me tell you already now; it's everything I could have wished for!
The sound of Destruction is a raw, blasting, speedy and uncompromising one. A huge release of energy and aggressiveness!
These guys have kept their spirit intact ´till the day today, simply refusing to conform, but stay true to the scene, style, values and vision they have had from the very start. Great! It may be an old recipe, but nevertheless, the result is still very tasty!

The guitar work of Mike is very full of life and his solos fit the music great.
His hard, blasting riffs together with Schmier's ripping basslines, creates the foundation of the Destruction sound. The hard, galloping drumming, delivered by new skinman, Marc Reign completes this aggressive blast of old school, German Thrash. As the icing on the cake, we have the vocals of Schmier, which are clean but still mega aggressive and really gives an impression that he lays all his soul and heart into this!

The band has an amazing way to carry out the music with so much integrity and balls it's incredible
The high level of catchiness is what lifts this album from "good" to "great". Where certain other bands in this style have a tendency to sound like a blur of brutal sounds, the songs delivered here have the exact amount of "ear-hanger ability" to get stuck in your head.
Just like it's hard to point out any weak songs on Metal Discharge, it's also difficult to point at the best songs, as they all hold a high quality. However, the title track is a fierce blast of energy with a catchy side to it, and Desecrators Of The New Age has something very special as well, with it's very raw and intense feeling! This structure also offers a little more variation and the drumming is so fast and tight! The verse builds up to the chorus in a very cool way and it's no wonder this song was the one Destruction chose to do a video for! It has everything a Thrash song should have - a future classic? Other personal highlights include the rapid opener The Ravenous Beast, the midtempo track Historical Force Feed and the blistering Savage Symphony Of Terror, which has a very classic Metal feeling to it!

The lyrics on the album are rather well written in my opinion, dealing with broader subjects than usual, from taking a stand against the political situation in the US, to themes as Metal as a lifestyle and a way to feel free and face your inner demons. The critical view on modern society runs like a red line throughout the album. I find it refreshing to see a band with the balls to have an opinion about what's going on in the world.

This album is another successful chapter in the story of how a reunion is supposed to be done: with respect for the fans, the music and the original spirit but still made in a refreshing and intense way, which leaves no doubt about that these guys still have their hearts 100 percent in this music!
Metal Discharge is sure to please every headbanger who likes oldschool, German Thrash with a high energy level and lots of nerve!

Great review!!!

This is undoubtedly one of the best new Thrash albums I've heard in a long time. Extremely tight and well-executed from start to finish, without any real album-fillers. Where a lot of present day Thrash bands have tried with a more modern and sometimes even industrial sound, Destruction still sticks to the simple and yet effective sound, that in the late 80's defined the genre, which they themselves were a large part of. This should be cherished, I know I do.

And indeed, what really sets them apart from most other present day thrash bands is the lyrics. As in the heyday of thrash (mid and late 80's to early 90's), once more the lyrical focus is on social and political issues. Today it seems that many metalheads have forgotten that Thrash-metal started as a rebellion against then present day society, wars and authorities - I haven't and surely Destruction haven't either.

Personal faves are the anti-social The Ravenous Beast, the anti-war Desecrators of The New Age, the somewhat Slayer-ish Savage Symphony of Terror and the real killer of the album: Vendetta.

The only negative thing to say about this great album is that I personally miss some more lead-guitars. Guitarist Mike Sifringer does a good job, but damnit, give us some more solos :)

To me this is an 8/10.

If you're a fan of agressive and intelligent metal, then get off your ass and buy this killer.

And remember; "Steel doesn't rust - Metal never dies!!!"
