Pretty Boy Floyd - Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz
Originally released in 1989 Pretty Boy Floyd's album "Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz" is considered a classic Glam album. The album has been out of print for years and now Perris Records has re-released the album with new artwork plus additional bonus tracks.

Since this is a re-release, let's review the bonus tracks first. Slam Dunk displays Pretty Boy Floyd in fine form with horns, gang choir and full "on the floor" drums on the chorus. She's My Baby is another typical PBF song maintaining the same standard as on the original album. The guitar riff is Chuck Berry style providing the song with a great up-tempo beat.

Two Hearts and Over The Edge suffer from a demo-like sound. Two Hearts is a ballad with Steve Summers singing Vince Neil style on the verse and unfolding his strong voice on the chorus. Despite that Two Hearts is a good ballad, the song adds nothing extraordinary to the original album. Over the Edge is a kick ass Rocker, but the sound could use some more bass instead of the dreadful treble dominating the mix. I Just Wanna Have Something To Do is a Ramones cover taken from Kristy Krash Majors tribute to Ramones. The song totally rocks with Kristy's voice complementing Joey Ramone's quite well.

If you are a fan of Glam Rock you probably already have this album in your collection. The main asset in Pretty Boy Floyd is Steve Summers' strong vocals. The album highlight is the power ballad Wild Angels, which exemplifies Pretty Boy Floyd's ability of writing songs with a strong melody. The title track is also among my favorites along with the happy up tempo tune Only the Young, which might not be the strongest cut, but it is simply irresistible.

Today the band's image appears outdated, but when this record was released I respected PBF for their total dedication to the Glam style. The album made quite a buzz in the late eighties and the album still sounds good because of the great production of Howard Benson. However, I must admit that most songs have lost a bit freshness and some songs sound primitive

If you didn't get the album back then or want it on CD, this is the perfect opportunity.
