Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - Blind Guardian Album News
News from Hansi Kürsch and Blind Guardian:

The last time I wrote something I promised to give the next update around Easter. Well, Easter season is a little late this year, but better late than never is my favorite saying. Here is my long promised message.

To keep this one a short but essential one: we finally have started the production of Blind Guardian studio album number nine. Frederik is literally rushing through the songs already. Who knows, this time we may deliver the finished master prior to the ultimate deadline (set by an about-to-get-insane record company after thousands of broken promises to finally deliver the new record within the next days). Well Frederik isn't Marcus, who isn't André, who most certainly is not Hansi. So there still lies trouble (i.e. delays) ahead.

Back to Frederik, back to the production: We started sometime last week and Frederik accomplished drums for some seriously tricky tracks. If I am correct he has two more tracks to go and should be finished during the next days. Altogether there are 11 songs to work on. As mentioned last time, we do have a strong amount of heavy Guardian hymns, which come along with such a harsh intensity that I am sometimes surprised myself. There is a fine balance of extremely fast songs and ultimate epic stuff. "Wheel of Time" would be one example for the last mentioned. The song contains many surprises - I am deadly honest about that, so mark my words here. Lyrically I am of course tempted to deal with Robert Jordan's great "Wheel of Time" story, one of the best fantasy series ever. If you asked me with which song the number could be compared I most probably would say "The Script for my Requiem" or "And then there was Silence". This tune does really have the potential to mess with these two songs.

As you most probably figure I am really excited about the new stuff and I cannot await to hear the final result somewhere in April 2010, when we will have finished mixing. We are targeting a late summer, early fall release, which means you still have to wait a little bit. To make the long waiting more comfortable we are at least intending to constantly provide you with information about the album's progress and supply you with small samples of noise from time to time. Right at the moment we are working on an accurate set up to make that possible. Expect something before Christmas. As it looks now I will start first vocals next Monday. Therefore I need to do some more research for proper lyrics. G.R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan, Michael Moorcock and so on they all knew how to write a good story or two...

Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - Blind Guardian working on new songs
A news update from Blind Guardian:

It was around Christmas when I was thinking about another short message for the homepage. As you can guess we all turned much older in the meantime - without a message. And even though February is here I still dare to wish you a Happy New Year. I trust that 2009 started promising for everyone. As usual there is a lot to tell, so I better start before you skip this due to boredom. Let's talk about new material and future plans:

We have already accomplished 8 new songs. What can I say about these songs? They rule, of course. You want a more precise description? Impossible. All I can say is that each and every song is 100% Blind Guardian, which naturally means there is a wild bunch of different things going on from time to time (always?).

According to atmospheres: we have everything from the more Nightfallish "Curse my Name" , to the Scriptish "Wheel of Time". In comparison to "A Twist in the Myth" the lyrical direction will be more on the fantasy side as you most probably can figure out by these titles. The song "Sacred" will give you an idea about the quality and the direction of the songs. We have mixed modern elements with traditional ones throughout the whole songs. We may need two or three more tracks before we can call it a complete album, but being that far in the songwriting process we nevertheless have made first plans for a production start in September or October 2009.

Apart from songwriting we will be heavily engaged in preproduction activities and in playing festivals during the next months. As a majority of the new songs seem to demand a sort of "live" atmosphere, we consider it to be good idea breathing in some real "live" air before we will finally get lost in the "Twilight Hall studios" again. As for the festivals you can find the already confirmed ones in the tour section. We will immediately list the "not yet confirmed" shows once they are confirmed.

In accordance to these events I can promise you some surprising songs (though most probably no new ones) and a nice stage set up. In total we are not going to play more than 10 shows, I would think. I am sure they all will turn out to be a great blast and a unique experience for everyone joining us. I will let you know what else is going on around Easter (that ´s at least when I will start thinking about another short message...).

Sunday, October 2, 2005 - Blind Guardian single to be released in November
Latest news from Blind Guardian:

Hello my friends,

Although time keeps on ticking quickly, things go very well in the Guardian camp. To be more precise: we are still on schedule and even though everyone is totally busy and concentrated the atmosphere is very lifely and still relaxed to a certain extend:-) The material for the single will be accomplished at the end of November. To make that happen this particular stuff will get most of our attention for the next 4 weeks. Everyone is already involved in the recording process and we are really excited about the album ?s progression. It is too early to say when we will be finished exactly, but I would say a worldwide release in the first half of 2006 is very realistic. Things look (sound - as well) very promising. At the moment we are also getting deeper into details such as album title, cover, etc... So, we are about to scratch the most important phase of the recording session and we do not intend to leave you out ... Please, let us work on it a little longer, so we can fix things technically. You will be provided with footage, that is for sure.

Cheers,
Hansi

Tuesday, July 19, 2005 - New Blind Guardian drummer
Latest news from the recently re-designed official Blind Guardian website:

Hi bards,

This time it fortunately is on me to deliver some good news. Very good news in fact!

The seemingly endless time of waiting for a new drummer and speculations who could possibly be the new one has finally come to an end. We have found what we have been searching for.

A few weeks ago an unknown guy who introduced himelf as Frederik Ehmke applied for the job as a drummer in a fairly firm manner. His vital, expressive and skillful performances of some B.G. classics ("Journey Through The Dark", "Time Stands Still" and "And Then There Was Silence") blew us away completely . Pretending not to be convinced we invited him to do a shoot out recording session under real production terms to check out if the creative chemistry would also work out fine. After finishing these recordings it was obvious to us: Frederik is going to be our new drummer!

It was essential for us to find a musician, who on one side would be able to integrate old Guardian trademarks in his play, but on the other side would also be confident enough to bring in his own vision of the Blind Guardian drums in a tasteful and, for the music, suitable way. Frederik is a calm and handsome fellow, who's aware of his abilities and who also knows what he wants. For us he is the lucky draw.

We are convinced you will be as impressed by his drum performance as we are. Now we are looking forward to starting the next album production. There is a good amount of work ahead of us but we are absolutely ready to go. You can expect a very interesting album with strong songs on it. We will keep you informed.

Later,
Hansi

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 - Blind Guardian news
An update from Blind Guardian:

Hi there,

First of all I would like to say how much we all appreciate the way you are dealing with the split. It is, as some of you have pointed out, not the end of the world but a new beginning. I am really proud about each step we have made in the past but as time moves on we must move on as well.

The future is wide open...

And now a couple of short statements in reply to your concerns and questions:

There will be no delay of the next Blind Guardian production. As you probably know: a Blind Guardian album is ready when we feel it is ready. This makes it somewhat difficult to come up with a precise schedule. I can guarantee the release of the next Blind Guardian album for 2006. If it finally turns out to be spring, summer or fall I don't really dare to say. If you had asked me about the release date for the next Demons and Wizards album two months ago I would have said April. Now it will be June. Things like that happen and it doesn't take a lot for a delay to be introduced. The orchestra album is scheduled for 2007. I do not see any reason for delays there.

Regarding a new drummer we have a few options at the moment which we will check out. I will keep you updated.

And finally for all the drummers who are sending e-mails to our webmasters asking them for information on how to apply for the job: from our side there is no need for auditions at the moment since we have some preferences already. Thanks for asking anyway.

All the best,
Hansi

Sunday, April 3, 2005 - Thomen leaves Blind Guardian
Blind Guardian drummer, Thomen has left the band. Here are statements from both Hansi and Thomen.

Hi there,

No news is good news. This obviously is bad news. After walking along the same musical paths for about 20 years and after several long, open and honest discussions between the four band members, we have all (including Thomen) come to the same conclusion that it is now best for Thomen to leave the band.

Since we developed different musical and personal directions for quite a while now, it turned out to be more and more difficult to find acceptable and suitable solutions for everyone in the band. Such circumstances would have eventually caused severe internal problems. Therefore, to avoid any damage to our close relationship this difficult step is essential. In terms of creativity or progression neither one of us would like to hold the other one back. Due to that fact the split seems to be a sad, but reasonable solution. We wish Thomen all the best for the future and hope to come up with more positive news in the near future.

.and day shall come again

Hansi

Dear Bards,

As you may have read in Hansi's statement, I am no longer the drummer of Blind Guardian. From now on we are going our separate ways, at least musically. I must admit it is quite a sad, but necessary decision in order for us to remain friends.

I stand fully behind Hansi's declaration, so I will keep my statement as short as possible, and wish Blind Guardian all the best for the future, hoping that they find another drummer without any hassle.

I would also like to use this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you who stood by us through all those years, especially our fans. You are the best!!! I hope to see you again soon!

A big thank you to my old colleagues, Hansi, Andre and Marcus, for all the amazing times we've shared.

Take care,
Thomen

Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - Blind Guardian news
News update from Blind Guardian:

A Happy New Year to everyone! Though you have not heard a lot from us during the last months we have not been lazy at all. There are a lot of things going on at the moment. Just to mention a few: the Demons and Wizards production is making good progress and the same can be said about the songwriting for the next Blind Guardian album which is at a very important point.

André and I have completed 5 songs for the new album and 10 songs for the orchestral project. Yesterday, we had a meeting with Charlie Bauerfeind (who is going to produce both albums) during which we have set up a rough schedule for the next months. We definitely will start the production within the year and it won't take as much time to accomplish it as it did with "A Night at the Opera".

With regards to the next Demons and Wizards album I am happy to tell you that 5 songs have been mixed for it already and that there are 7 more to go. How many of them we are going to use for the regular album and how many we will use as bonus material I can ´t tell you right now. There are 11 Schaffer/Kürsch songs and one cover tune. We will be done with everything mid February. The album surely will be released in late spring, or early summer. I am very pleased with the songs and so is Jon. My favourite tune at the moment is called "Touched by the Crimson King". We have not spoken about an album title yet but have to make a decision rather soon. I will let you know.

Thursday, May 15, 2003 - Alex Holzwarth back in Blind Guardian for a little while
Blind Guardian drummer Thomen Stauch is having problems again. Here is an update from the Blind Guardian Web site:

"The show must (will) go on! Unfortunately Thomen seems to have got the same problems with the nerves in his hand like he had before our South American tour last year. He can´t put any pressure on it without incurring big pains and therefore he is not able to play live with us at the moment. He is in medical treatment and we hope he will be back in business as soon as possible. In the meantime Alex Holzwarth will help us out so all the scheduled gigs will definitely be played!"

Those songs are: Into the Storm, Welcome to Dying, Nightfall, The Script for my Requiem, Harvest of Sorrow, Valhalla, Majesty, The Soulforged, Under the ice, Born in a Mourning Hall, Lord of the Rings, Punishment Divine, Time stands still, Bright Eyes, The Bard´s Song - In the Forrest, Imaginations from the other side, Lost in the Twilight Hall, Journey through the dark, A past & Future Secret and Mirror Mirror. We still don´t have a name for the album and also the cover is not done yet but we at least know when it should be released... on May 26th. Before that, on April 28th, we´ll release a single with a couple of different versions of the Bard´s song, it will contain a new studioversion of that song + different liveversions which all show how different our audiences all over the world react during that song... Other information
Blind Guardian is a German power metal band. On the last couple of albums there has been a slight tendency to use some progressive elements. Not that the albums are progressive though. They are just very complex and highly technical power metal albums.

In 2002 Blind Guardian put out their 8th studio album called "A Night At The Opera". An excellent album with some very complex power metal tracks. That one along with the predecessor "Night fall In Middle-Earth" are my favorite Blind Guardian albums.

The style that Blind Guardian plays is very unique and I have not heard anything that sounded anything like them.

For more information please go to their web page.

I must add that "Imaginations from the other side" is one of their best albums as well...

Thomen will be missed. I hope BG finds an equal replacement. All in all, Blind Guardian is one of the wery few power metal bands i enjoy listening to, so i really hope Thomen's leave won't cause a drop in their quality.

Still, best wishes to Thomen. Perhaps in the future we can enjoy his drumming as a member of another high quality band??

Though Blind Guardian playes absolut top class Metal with mysterious fantasy feeling I can't say they have got too much variation between their albums.. they all have the same sound.. but I look at that as a advantage.. it's like in football when they say "Never change a winning team"

Blind Guardian is and has always been one of my favorite artists since I started listening to music.

Of course variation is good too. Just look at Mr. Lucassen's Ayreon.. SUCCESS!
