Disarmonia Mundi - Fragments of a D-Generation
I don't even know where to start with this review. This record has buried its way into my heart, and into my top three albums of all time (along with Children of Bodom's "Hatebreeder" and Soilwork's "A Predator's Portrait") with its epic greatness. I don't even think that I can do this album justice with my own words, but I will try my hardest to convey to you what is, in my opinion, the greatest piece of metallic art of this millennium so far. I have been listening to this non-stop since the day it arrived in my mailbox last June, and I can honestly say that I have listened to it at least 100 times through.

It's interesting, but in all the other reviews of "Fragments" that I have read, there are always references to In Flames and Soilwork. I acknowledge that without those two bands this band would never exist, (Soilwork's Speed Strid even lends his amazing screams to the album) however I still feel that Disarmonia Mundi have taken what the aforementioned groups have created and brought it to the furthest and greatest point of evolution that the genre is capable of. This album is an absolute masterpiece, and deserves every bit of praise that I am giving it. Every time I listen to it I feel a sense of euphoria in my brain that puts me in a trance, and I am reminded that this album is the most recent example of why I listen to Metal.

My favorite genre of Metal is Melodic Death/Thrash, and "Fragments of a D-Generation" contains every ingredient that I look for. It has amazing and melodic solos that add to the song instead of just being there for the sake of it, perfect production, a non-stop barrage of thrashy and melodic riffs, breathtaking arrangements, incredible and technical drumming, and an overall sense of unity between the songs.

Ettore Rigotti, the mastermind behind the band, is no doubt a musical genius. The man plays guitars, drums, keyboards, and sings the clean vocals on the album, and what's more is that each of these contributions are done to a degree of perfection. I am in complete awe of how accomplished and talented this guy is, and "Fragments" is more than enough proof.

I love what Rigotti did with the keyboard arrangements, basically creating these techno influenced melodies and patterns that give the music this epic and trancey feeling to it. His clean vocals are so fucking good and so catchy as well, and really help make the record as melodic as it is. The vocals combined with the keys together give the album an ambient feel, one that I have never felt from any other Metal album that I have ever heard.

I don't think there is anything else I can do or say to convince you to buy this. Disarmonia Mundi is not just the future of Melodic Death, but the future of Heavy Metal as a whole.

I took your word for it, and bought the album. After the second spin, I couldn't get enough of it. 9/10 at the very least.

I agree w/ the 10/10 rating on "Fragments..." You should definitely check out their full length demo "Nebularium" (10+/10) if you can find it. The Russian edition even comes w/ an extra track. Happy hunting...

Very disappointed...your review claims this album is so great but yet there is not a SINGLE unique idea here, and it sounds so damned much like Soilwork why would this guy be in a band that copies himself? If this is one of your favorite albums of all time...that's quite scary and you may need a few lessons in Metal 101. This is better than Reign in Blood? Better than Master of Puppets? Better than Number of the Beast. Fuck no!

I have to agree with scott, there's nothing special or unique in this album,5/10 on my scale.

This album is great, Soilwork fans like me have to adore it! The vocals are great, the solos pretty long and fast. I also liked the lyrics by interpreting them. "Red Clouds" an "Colors of a new era" may sound similar in some cases, but they are still different and with "A Mirror Behind" my favorits out of this Album.
The unique thing about Disarmonia Mundi is that they combine the "Gothenburg-Sound" with their more electric and artificial sounding guitars.
To me the songs are creating a great atmosphere. I still am into my Favorit Bands, Soilwork and In Flames, but D.M. have reached the status of COB and Dimmu Borgig in my Playlist, if they continue like this, they might step up further :-)

Well, I don't think there'd be much dissapointment if it wasn't reviewed as "best album of the millenium". It's got a few real rocking tracks, a solid album overall. I wouldn't know about it being unoriginal though, since I never listened to Soilwork.

The most amazing and unique metal album I've ever heard. That is coming from someone who isn't the biggest Melodic Death Metal fan either. Very melodic, structurally sound, and dense with memorably thrashy/groove riffs and vocal harmonies.
