Staff page - Jonah
Jonah is no longer part of the RevelationZ staff. As long as his articles are available on the site, this page will be here.
Hey everybody, my name is Jonah and I am the newest addition to the RevelationZ writing staff. I am 21 years old and am currently living in Montpelier Vermont in the USA. I am a professional keyboard player in three different bands. Pyramaze of course is my main band, but I am also a member of Avian and Lilitu. I have been playing the keyboards for 15 years, and I have been listening to and playing metal for 7 of those years.
I want to first talk about the bands that got me into metal in the first place. My first band was of course Metallica, but I started to really get into the scene after hearing Children of Bodom and Cradle of Filth for the first time. Then I found myself falling in love with bands like Dimmu Borgir, Soilwork, In Flames, and Hammerfall. And that then progressed into my love of other bands such as Sonata Arctica, Iced Earth, Nightrage, Kamelot. Nightwish, Disarmonia Mundi etc.
I decided to get involved with RevelationZ after meeting Steen, the "Danish Heavy Metal Wonder", at the Pyramaze release party and Prog Power USA. My love of all things Metal runs even deeper than playing and listening to it, and I really feel that I have a lot to offer the fans in the way of guidance as to what is the best (and the rest) in the scene.
If I had to limit myself to certain genres, I would say my favorites are Swedish style Melodic Death, Power, True, Symphonic, and Folk Metal. If you want to check out my favorite bands and current play list, then by all means please click here.
I'm also into other styles of music, such as Celtic Folk music, Epic Movie Soundtracks (Hans Zimmer is a god), and even some trance now and then. I feel that in order to understand the roots of the Metal that I like, I can't limit myself in what I listen to. I know that as a keyboardist in the Genre, that I need to have these kind of outside influences to really be able to contribute something that makes it more epic and interesting to listen to.
My favorite movies are The Last Samurai, The Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, and many other epic war films. I also find myself drawn to cheesy 80's horror, like the Freddy and Jason movies and other crap like that.
