Mama Kin is an unsigned band hailing from Sweden. When visiting the band's website you immediately notice the image of these guys, which is similar to bands like
Mötley Crüe,
Guns N' Roses and Poison. So we are dealing with Hard Rock rooted in the timeless 80's period.
Brief facts about
Mama Kin: Prior to "Partytime"
Mama Kin recorded a demo in 2002 entitled "Three is Company". After that the band was on hiatus, but
Mama Kin now returned with new songs, which are featured on "Partytime".
A thing that deviates
Mama Kin from their ideals is singer Chris Action. Chris Action has a deep voice more similar to Doug Pinnick from King's X and
Paul Stanley than the high pitchers Vince Neil plus Axl Rose.
Partytime, which is a meaning title, opens the demo. References to six packs and hanging out with
Mötley Crüe works great in my book.
The CD consists of 5 party tunes that you cannot help to hum along. Highlight is the irresistible party rocker
Get it On and
Show you somethin', where the last mentioned has a southern twist. It might be Chris Actions vocals that produce the Southern Rock associations. His vocals sound very full and quite powerful. In my opinion the band should hire an extra guitarist. The music needs to correspond to Chris Action's great vocals. The sound could use more body with the addition of an extra guitarist. Furthermore this style of music allows flashy guitar solos, which is featured on the best track
Get it on. All in all the material can easily be more riff based and feature more lead guitar fills.
The material is good. However,
Mama Kin still needs more experience and their songs are still a bit marked of their young age, but definitely shows potential.
This is only the second demo from the young Swedes and the positive elements definitely dominate "Partytime". I really look forward to hear more from this band. Their attitude and style is just right, so its just hard work in the rehearsal room plus play a lot concerts to gain experience. In the future I believe
Mama Kin could be a kick ass band.
