RevelationZ Site News - RevelationZ Closing Down
Saturday, August 20, 2011
Sad to hear. This has been my primary go to site since 2003. I have been introduce many new bands and kept up to date with many other artists that I have been listening to from years past.

Steen your site cost me a lot of money in CD purchases :-)

Your site over the years became a community. I feel as though I have gotten to know quite a few of you over the years (through the music). Be it you, Alanna, Nina, Brian and so forth. It is that interaction between each reviewer and it's members is what keeps it unique.

Steen if you reach your goal how many of your current reviewers would be willing to stay on?

Statement From Joey DeMaio Regarding Manowar's UK Tour
Saturday, July 23, 2011
Still waiting for a North American tour with a west coast Canadian date.

Full Album Due From Osukaru
Saturday, July 23, 2011
I though Carl Johan was a decent vocalist. Though I do have to admit his vocal style brought some limitations to Oz's material on the previous Ep's. Out Of Touch is the one that stands out in my mind where Carl would fit in seamlessly and then in another passages it just did not work well together.

Is anyone familiar with their new vocalist Tiann?

RevelationZ Staff News
Sunday, July 10, 2011
Sad to see her leave. Her stint (as staff) was short. I appreciated her point of view. I am sure we will here from her from time to time as a member.

Be The First To Listen To Dream Theater's New Track
Sunday, July 10, 2011
It is a good track. Mike sounds excellent behind the kit. Slightly different style and of course hardware. Deeper snare, more use of the floor toms and I noticed some simple fills that was very tasteful and dramatic. Perhaps It was MM's audition to the public on the first mastered work so I was looking for every little nuance in the final product. I am excited to hear the new DT this Sept. I believe that is the correct time frame we will see the new album.

Free Download Of New Anthrax Song Available
Sunday, July 10, 2011
A little more melodic than the early years with Joey but sounding good. Almost the original line up. Still minus Dan Spitz.

It has been a lot of years since I have listened to Joey's vocals but it is sounding a little lower and practiced (controlled) for that range. Time to pull out some old Anthrax out of the archives.

Metallica To Release Album With Lou Reed
Friday, July 1, 2011
"not really 100 percent a Metallica record"... I think they accomplished this task once before. Can you say Load and Reload...and what the hell, lets through in St. Anger. And shall I also look at the horrible mix of Death Magnetic that sound as though they threw away the base tracks. Personally I do not think we will ever hear a Metallica album that is really 100% ever again.

However I have loads of respect for Lou Reed and what he has accomplished for the past 40 years.

Perhaps Metallica will take a walk on the wild side.

Sorry, I could not resist.

Dream Theater Mini Series: The Spirit Carries On
Saturday, April 23, 2011
Interesting.

I am one who is not fond of the "Reality TV" competitions but this has me intrigued.

DT is turning into a marketing machine. This is a perfect inside look at the auditioning process. I think we will be wowed at the high caliber of musicianship that these drummers will present. It will be a drum clinic.

I am surprised Ozzy has not tried this aspect. Or should I say Sharron Osbourne.

Kamelot - Roy Khan Officially Leaves Kamelot
Friday, April 22, 2011
This is turning out to be a year of turmoil for bands with international acclaim.

I read the the news within hours of their posting. The Khan era was something magical. The band as a whole had great chemistry. Even though Kamelot is Thomas' band, Khan ended up being a key member that helped bring Kamelot to where it is today. Khan is a factor as to why I became a fan of Kamelot.

Like Schaffer of Iced Earth, I am sure Thomas will find another talented vocalist for his band. But in both cases it have to be a wait and see.

K.K. Downing Leaves Judas Priest
Thursday, April 21, 2011
Downing's retirement is an omen. My guess there is a good chance the Epitaph tour will be the final chapter of JP's long and successful career.

Former Blaze Bayley Band Members Issue Statement
Saturday, April 2, 2011
There is still more than what meets the eye with this story. Regardless the of financial problems Blaze is having there are better ways of dealing with this. The members of the band deserve better since it was this line up that helped solidify his standing in the metal community. This move will hurt Blaze's future musical endeavors.

I am still curious what this medical condition, as per the previous news thread, is and how it affects Blaze's move.

Self-appointed girlfriend manager? hmmmm...

I am sure with the talents of Dave, Nico and Jay they will re-emerge as a "band" with a new metal offering showing Blaze has made a bad decision with the course of action he has taken.

Blaze Bayley Parts Ways With Band
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Sad to here. Blaze found himself a group of excellent musicians only to split up due to unfortunate circumstances. I am sure the financial problems started with SPV. Then running things under his own label is a risk as well. Though I am puzzled about the medical reasons. I was unaware of any health issues (though I would guess that is a private issue). Hope he get well.

Iced Earth Confirm New Vocalist
Saturday, March 19, 2011
I Think Schaffer's choice is an interesting one. Block does have an excellent vocal range, but what I like is his vocal dynamics. It should be interesting to see if Schaffer opts to go heavier since Block is a good at the growls. First song I envisioned him singing (w/ his vocal dynamics) is "Violate" off the Dark Saga release. And no doubt he can pull off the songs from the Tim Owen's era. However there are a number of touring songs I question would quite right. Perhaps I identify Barlow as an integral part if IE sound.

At least Steen you will still get to see Barlow this summer. The article seems to read that touring and recording with Block will not commence till this winter.

Matt Barlow Departs From Iced Earth
Saturday, March 5, 2011
I am however a little confused with one statement.

"It is going to be phenomenal to share the love of this music during several summer festivals and I know that it will be a time we will never forget. "

This tells me that Matt is at this time remained committed to a few festivals since getting a new vocalist to IE is time consuming. Perhaps this is Matt's final farewell.

Matt Barlow Departs From Iced Earth
Thursday, March 3, 2011
I did not see this coming. I wish Matt luck and Jon even more so since history will show Matt vocals has become a significant part of IE's sound. Pretty tough shoe to fill let alone sell.

New Whitesnake Video Released
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Coverdale's age is finally catching up with him. decent rock tune though.

Iced Earth Album Update
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
I am surprised to see IE back on century media. I figured they would cross over to Metal Blade or Nuclear Blast.

Iron Maiden wins "Best Metal Performance"
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
I agree it is a joke. It was the final frontier w/ that killer video, then perhaps it could be in the discussion. The Grammys are a lame duck and have been for decades. It is about what sells. And Iron Maiden is selling. Now if they picked Final Frontier (w/ that killer video) then we may have something to discuss. I would have gone with Slayer on that one.

Iron Maiden wins "Best Metal Performance"

Sorry...repeating statements there.

Redemption - News Update
Sunday, February 13, 2011
Very good update. It was good to get a detailed update and news of his health status.

I am still trying to wrap my head around how they intend to raise the bar. Snowfall was a brilliant release and was hands down my favorite of 2009. Snowfall is still in my rotation with Black & White World still leaving me in complete awe. In my opinion Redemption took the reigns of being the best in progressive metal. With that being said I found it interesting in changing producers since they had consecutive successes in their progression in achieving new heights. With news like that I am eager to hear the result, which I hope is by the end of the year.

2 thumbs up.

Nightwish Reveals New Album And Film Plans
Sunday, February 13, 2011
Interesting. 13 songs for the album. I am going to guess that this will be released before the movie and then re-issued again with a complete score complete with new packaging once the movie is about to be released. Tuomas is an ambitious artist.

I am not surprised he wants to undertake such a project. It will open a lot of doors for him in the future when he opts to become a film composer. Thumbs up to him for following his dreams.

Black Country Communion News
Wednesday, January 26, 2011
BCC debut made my personal top 10 of 2010 and is great to see they will be releasing another. I did not expect another so soon but with the compositional talents of Hughes and Bonamassa I am sure it will be another excellent release.

Steve Morse Reissues
Friday, December 24, 2010
HTW is an unbelievable showcase of Steve Morse's diverse musical talent. He is still to this day my favorite guitarist. What area of music has he not excelled in musically? The man is brilliant.

Yes...back to metal.

Manowar re-recording Battle Hymns
Thursday, October 7, 2010
Really, why re-record it. Remastering and re-issuing is fine. I have battle hymns and it sounded "massive" then and is classic now.

Your right Sandra it is a cash grab.

Tarja Turunen: Second "Until My Last Breath" video Released
Saturday, September 25, 2010
I already have the release and it is better than her previous. Not that I did not like "My Winter Storm" but this one offers more passages that pushes her musical talents.

Allan Lande - The Showdown
Saturday, September 25, 2010
I got shivers down my spine at 3:52 when the solo passages changed. Beautiful transition! November is just around the corned.

Black Country Communion Tour
Saturday, September 25, 2010
I picked up the album and there is plenty to get excited about. When listening to this release you feel like you are right there watching them.

Quiet Riot Return With New Singer
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Mark Huff sounds quite a bit like DuBrow. I must admit I do not hear the energy that DuBrow had. It's the little things stylistically that are missing. Mind you it is simply a quick recording for promo of the tour. Be interesting to see them. Last time I saw them in the early 90's none of these band members were touring. It was Cavaso and DeBrow and the other 2 touring musicians I did not recognize.

Samples Of New Helloween Album Available
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Samples sound promising. But then again samples usually do.

Dream Theater: full of ideas and energy about the future

I am still shocked.

Arjen Reveals Star One Singers And Album Concept
Saturday, August 28, 2010
Been waiting for another release with this project. Looks as though it will be the same stellar line up of vocalist from that last one. Dan Swano is one amazing vocalist.

Arjen to release a new Star One album!
Saturday, August 21, 2010
Last Star One release was excellent. Nice to see it will be thus far the same vocalists. Dan Swano is an excellent vocalist with some amazing vocal range.

Giuffria Reissues on Metal Mind Productions
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Wow. I have not listened to them in years. Lucky for me I can pull out my tapes and gander a listen before the CD releases. Now if only they can figure out the legal crap to re-release HOL self titled on CD.

James LaBrie discusses 20 years of fronting Dream Theater
Friday, July 16, 2010
Saw the concert w/ Maiden, I am sorry to say that DT is not an opening band. It was not good. Problem is DT has been around for a long time and has too much material to cover with a lot of epic songs. When they opened for Queensryche back in 2003 the time was shared and the mix for them was excellent. All 3 bands (Fates Warning) were stellar). Their performance would have been better if the sound engineers adjusted mix not having it set strictly for Iron Maiden. DT was so muddy sounding we could not even hear James Labrie. On the brighter side Maiden was excellent yet again and excellent stage set up.

The only question I have is; why does Maiden bother with an open band? So much material so little time. Still waiting for the band to play Sign Of The Cross (I know they did with the Brave New World tour but I missed that concert) and the Clansmen with Bruce.

New Ozzy Song
Friday, April 30, 2010
The material is written by Churko and Ozzy. Gus is just the puppet in this one. New song sounds heavy...generic and the I agree the Chorus does hurt. Ozzy must have written the lyrics.

It will probably suck like the last release...and the one before that, and the one before that...

I'll stick with Dio!

New Annihilator Song Online
Friday, April 30, 2010
Sounds promising. Jeff Waters is one hell of a guitar player and has done an excellent job of keeping the Canadian metal scene alive.

Iron Maiden - Album and Tour News
Sunday, March 7, 2010
Maiden and DT under one roof! My God that is gonna be one hell of a concert.

Blaze Bayley - New Song Streaming Online
Monday, January 11, 2010
If 'Watching The Night Sky" is any indication of what we can expect with the forthcoming release it should be another full out Metal release from Blaze.

New Helloween - Dr. Stein Video
Monday, January 11, 2010
WOW! This is gonna be one release we are not to take seriously. Personally I think this revisit is kind of interesting. I checked out the preview on the Lp and it will not be vintage power metal. However I will pick this one up for shits and giggles. Honestly, it should be taken as good fun. Instead of what some bands my do and try to re-record old material or have remixes. They have simply taken an interesting approach as doing them as cover songs. I like the idea and it should pay homage to such great material given to us for the past 25 years.

Shadow Gallery - New album - Third Trailer online
Wednesday, October 7, 2009
The music arrangements and composition is Shadow Gallery in every aspect, but I cringe not hearing Baker as the lead. I must admit I am prejudging prior to its full release but Brian Ashland thus far in the promos has not impressed. .

Shadow Gallery working on new album
Friday, July 31, 2009
I am not sure what to think of this. Last Christmas they were working on the new matterial. Perhaps some vocal tracks from the Demo's were already done by Baker.

Machines Of Grace featuring TSO, Savatage and Metal Church members ready debut release!
Sunday, May 3, 2009
Listened to the 2 songs on myspace and I am now anxiously awaiting for the release this summer. Though I tend to do that with anything that is linked to Savatage.

New Heaven & Hell video
Sunday, May 3, 2009
Sweet! It is my favorite Sabbath line up. At age 67 Dio is still sounding remarkably good.

Masterplan update from the band
Sunday, May 3, 2009
:-)

Jorn Lande - Full Spirit Black Album Details Revealed; Audio Samples Available;Rejoins Masterplan?
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Hmmmmmm....I think not so long ago I mentioned something like Lande making his way back to Masterplan. This is not confirmed of course since it is a rumour but you have to admit where there is smoke there's fire. Interestng to see how that turns out.

Gary Wehrkamp in new project called Roswell Six
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Very Cool! Listened to the 4 songs and I will be reserving my copy.

Redemption news
Thursday, April 23, 2009
This is Great News. Redemption's last 2 releases were unbelievable and both can be placed in the all time top 10 best prog releases.

I think Sandra said it best "it's going to be one hell of a summer".

Mike Di Meo out of Masterplan
Thursday, January 15, 2009
I think perhaps Jorn may be back in the mix.

Mike Di Meo out of Masterplan
Thursday, January 15, 2009
Could also be RG taking over the duties as well. He did so on his first solo release. Though he is nothing like Jorn.

New feature on the site
Wednesday, January 7, 2009
Definitely something I would like to try out this coming new year :-)
