Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - Dave Starr leaves Vicious Rumors and is working on new album | Original Vicious Rumors member and bassist Dave Starr has left the band as of 1-23-07.
Dave played bass on the first 5 VR albums (and was featured in several other VR DVD's, MTV videos, and band compilations). He returned to the band in 2005 to record the new WarBall CD in 2006.
Dave comments: "My history with VR goes back nearly 23 years, and in many ways the band will always be a part of me, however it's time for me to concentrate 100% of my time and energy on my own music, my own band, and playing guitar. My band WildeStarr (along with incredible vocalist London Wilde) is something I have been working on for a few years now, and I took time off from this to work with VR again and record the WarBall album. I am happy with the way the new VR CD came out, and thrilled with the response it has received so far from the fans and press. It was great to play and record with VR again. I remain on good terms with everyone in the band and wish them well in the future."
Look for the debut CD by WildeStarr in late 2007. Dave describes the bands sound as " Heavy, melodic, and intense" The band can be contacted at WildeStarrMedia@aol.com. · Discuss this news further (0) |
Tuesday, August 15, 2006 - Vicious Rumors album news | Mascot Records will release Vicious Rumors' new album, Warball, on October 15th.
The album will feature the following tracklisting:
Sonic Rebellion
Mr. Miracle
Dying Every Day
Immortal
Warball
Crossthreaded
The Wheels Of Madness
Windows Of Memories
Ghost Within
Dreams Of Rage
Vicious Rumors' current lineup includes: James Rivera (vocals), Geoff Thorpe (guitar), Brad Gillis (guitar), Dave Starr (bass) and Larry Howe (drums, vocals).
Warball is the band's ninth studio album and twelfth official release. Produced by Geoff Thorpe and Juan J. Orteaga. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Juan J. Orteaga at Trident Studios in Pacheco, CA.
This is the first Vicious Rumors album with Geoff Thorpe doing all rhythm and acoustic guitars and most of the solos. "In the past I've always split the guitar duties up with our other guitarist. As I re-built the band, I decided to knock it out myself. I always planned to have some special guests on the record, and it turned out great".
For the Warball CD Geoff Thorpe reunites with original members Larry Howe and Dave Starr. "It felt great to have the original nucleus together again," Geoff said. " Larry and Dave are a tight knit veteran rhythm section that really stepped up on this new CD. The years of working together definately helped create the Metal Mayhem of Warball."
Also joining Vicious Rumors is vocal legend James Rivera. James brings a true Metal Spirit and sonic bombardment to the V.R. music. James shows off a wide range of vocal styles on Warball that metal fans worldwide will soon be witness to.
Brad Gillis also makes a very special-guest appearance on five songs blowing some crazy guitar solos and harmony solos with Geoff. Brad's legendary performance taking over for the late Randy Rhoads in Ozzy's band can not be forgotten. Multi-platinum success with Night Ranger would follow. And now Brad returns to Metal in 2006 in Vicious Rumors with Warball.
Thaen Rasmussen also plays guitar on three songs on Warball and has already been on tour with VR. Thaen hails from the S.F. Bay Area band Anvil Chorus. Sunday, April 30, 2006 - Vicious Rumors drummer joins W.A.S.P. | Vicious Rumors bassist Dave Starr has posted the following message in the band's Forum:
"I just got off the phone with our drummer Larry Howe. He has indeed joined W.A.S.P.
He auditioned a few weeks ago and Blackie (Lawless) called him back and told him he had the gig. He flys to LA this weekend to start work with the band for the new tour dates that start soon.
As far as Larry and VR goes, we have a break now with no tour dates while Geoff (Thorpe) finishes the new CD so the timing is good for everyone. Larry says Blackie wants him to do the tour and then what happens next will be figured out down the line. Larry remains a member of Vicious Rumors.
I still want Larry to do the WildeStarr CD with my wife and I, and I hope he can still do that at some point later this year.
This is great news for Larry, and I gave him congrats on the phone, its a win win situation for everyone involved." · Discuss this news further (0) |

Tuesday, August 23, 2005 - Lead vocalist leaves Vicious Rumors | Here is a message from Brian O'Conner regarding his departure from Vicious Rumors:
After 8 years, it's not without some sadness that I have decided to end my journey as the lead vocalist of Vicious Rumors. It's been a long haul with great memories, but I have given my last commitment to VR.
The truth is that after the many adaptations that the group has endured, VR seems to have lost the unity and brotherhood that once was. Furthermore, the lack of respect, management, leadership, trust, and most all the belief in one another were all factors in my decision to move on. I've gone above and beyond with dedication and passion, but I cannot continue with Vicious Rumors under these circumstances within the group.
Thanks to my family, friends and all the fans that stood by me through these years - I love you. Keep your ears open for my next group, which will include members of Vicious Rumors and Heathen - you haven't heard the last from me!
