Band Profile

What is your name and your current position in the band?

Tony Harnell-no current position! (Ex-singer, songwriter, co-producer)

Victor Borge/ Bass player

Tell us about the history of the band. More specifically, when was the band formed, how did you meet, and have there been any particular highlights or low points in your career, any crucial events that have taken you where you are today?

Tony: I joined the band in 1984, we met through the band's manager in the U.S., we first met in Norway in May of 1984. And the most crucial event was getting signed to Universal Music worldwide in 1984 after we finished our first album together.

The highlights were many including our arena and amphitheater tours in the late 80's and the My Religion album and tour.

Victor: The Band started 1982, I joined the band later. Highlights in the band are right now, and loving every minute :-)

Was there ever a time when you wondered if your band would remain just a local outfit and never make it in the industry?

Tony: No.

Victor: Not with TNT! Everybody just knew that this felt right! And having one of the best guitar players in the world is a big bonus for a guitar based hardrock band :-) Agree?

What is your latest album and why should people buy it?

Tony: All The Way To The Sun and "LIVE IN MADRID" the DVD which has just been released.

You should buy them both because they've got some cool songs and they represent my last work with the band.

Victor: All the way to the sun. Good songs, good standard :-)

How would you categorize the style of the band? And did you ever consider or try playing other styles of music than the one(s) you are playing now?

Tony: Melodic hard rock. And yes I have played other styles of music.

Victor: Hard melodic pulsing guitar based Rock Whit lot`s of energy!! TNT are in one way mixing different music styles without thinking of trying to be hip! The main thing is to work out the arrangement,to get the right feeling of the song :-)

Can you share with us one or two of your favourite moments with the band?

Tony: Arriving in Japan for the first time was pretty amazing. And playing Sweden Rock in 2004.

Victor: First of all! Joining the band!

Well all the tours whit TNT are great! Last weekend we played on a festival just outside of Birmingham, and the guys bout me a very expensive bird suit which I took on and sang the bird flu song for the guys and all the other people who where passing by :-)

How is the writing process in the band?

Tony: The writing process with myself and Ronni varied. Sometimes he would write some music and I would write melodies and lyrics and other times we would write the whole thing together and other times I would write lyrics and melodies and he would add the chords and we'd arrange the songs together.

Victor: Ronni and Tony are working out some new song ideas these days!

What brought you on the path to becoming a musician? Did you ever consider or take any other paths through life besides music?

Tony: Yes I considered being a photographer and a professional surfer, but singing came so easy and I loved it so much, I loved the music, I am passionate about the music.

Victor: I decided to become a musician when I was 8 years old and both my first bass guitar which was really bad from a neighbor for 3 euros :-)

Do you have any idols? If yes, who?

Tony: My grandfather. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury and Queen, Rob Halford, Chris Cornell, Paul Newman, Jimmy Carter.

Victor: Phil Lynnot, John Entwistle,Geddy Lee,Michael Anthony. Lot`s moore :-)

Do you have any regrets looking back at your career? For example any songs or even full albums that you regret recording? If so, what made you regret it?

Tony: Regrets are a huge waste of time. Every mistake leads you to where you are today. I am actually grateful for all the mistakes I've made. If I had any regret at all it would be that I didn't learn from some of my mistakes sooner than I did.

Victor: I will come back on that one :-)

Are there particular songs in your catalogue that the fans love but you're not particular fond of yourself?

Tony: Oh sure, but that feeling goes away when I see how happy the fans are when I play the songs.

Victor: I don`t think so ? We love pretty much the same songs I think :-)

How important do you rate the lyrical side of your albums?

Tony: Very important. I have chronicled my life in my lyrics. I have given pieces of myself away to the public with each album. I do this for two reasons. One is that I need to feel what I am singing about, it needs to be real to me and also I know that I will connect to other people who have felt the same way.

Victor: They are important because they tell you something!

What do you think about the state of the music industry today?

Tony: I think it's changing obviously. We'll see where it goes. It's not going away, it'll just change.

Victor: Some of it is really shitty, but the good ones always survive!

What do you think is the best way to fight music piracy?

Tony: I really don't know.

Victor: Keep on playing live, and maybe put on some more extras for those who buys the real album/DVD.

Do you have a life philosophy? If yes, what is it?

Tony: Yes. Create the life you want, eliminate negative influences, do something for the planet and flourish and prosper.

Victor: Life is like a good wine!!! Enjoy life and all the things that surround you :-)

Can you describe a typical day in your life?

Tony: Get up, free writing for 10 minutes, check email, gym, sing, write a song, record...

Victor: Playing music ,and enjoy having good friends and a supporting family.

What do you like to spend your time with besides music?

Tony: Studying the mind and spirit, movies, working on my book, sports.

Victor: Then we are back to! Enjoy life :-)

What's the craziest thing that has ever happened on a tour?

Tony: Pushing a broken down tour bus uphill in the snow in the middle of winter in Norway!!!

Victor: You really don`t wanna know :-)

You're heading off to live on a deserted island for a couple of years with your portable entertainment system... Which albums, movies or books would you bring? (Max. 3 of each)

Tony:
CD's-Night at the Opera, Abbey Road, Best Of Mozart.
Books-Illusions-Richard Bach, Way of the Peaceful Warrior-Dan Millman

Victor: Hemispheres (RUSH) Who's nex t(THE WHO) Tell no tales (TNT)

What is your favourite joke?

Tony: My favorite jokes are more like stories that I have lived or seen. TNT has some amazing stories or jokes that we used to tell between us. Most cannot be repeated in public:)

Victor: Imitating different people animals...

Can you tell us about any future plans for you and your band?

Tony: I am moving forward with a solo career and probably a new band. I'm writing and recording demos now, should have one or two releases out in 2007!

Victor: Keep on making music and touring!!!

Thanks for answering these questions. Now you are free to write a few lines to our readers.

Tony: Hope to see you on the road soon!

Love, Tony

Victor: Hey all of you fans out there!!! I really hope that all of you are doing great, and will see you soon!!!

Best! Victor...
