Ohoi there maties!
So I guess you are here to tap into who I am?!
Well then, I'm Morten, nice to see you, and thanks for checking in, I hope you will enjoy your stay!
I'm a student teacher at Aarhus University, and not too many years from now, I'll be shaping the young minds of tomorrow, getting them equipped and ready for a life in the big pond.
I have this bug called music, which I blame my mum and dad for. At a very early age my mother introduced me to my first musical love: Richard Wagner and the result of that introduction, 6 years old, I decided to bring my tape of Richard Wagner's Lohengrin to show and tell in kindergarten, which made my tape stick a bit out compared to Tommy the Tank Engine and Kaj & Andrea (a very popular Danish children's show), Oh well, I was never one for swimming the dead fish anyway.
Not too long after I got a hold of my fathers Led Zeppelin and Ten Years After albums, and I started listening to guitar (or so I thought, more about that later) oriented music a bit more. Then one day while listening to the radio, I discovered Queen! And when I heard the amazing voice of Freddie Mercury singing Mustapha torpedoing out of my speakers, that was it, I just had to get that album. So I did all sorts of chores and stuff, and finally one day I had myself a copied tape of the album JAZZ, and way many Queen tapes and albums to be mentioned here followed, I was in love!!
Then one day, me and my father went into the local HMV music store, and I left with two albums; Beastie Boys - License to Ill and Metallica - Master of Puppets. I had discovered metal!!! (I know that Beastie Boys isn't metal, well Kerry King plays a solo on No Sleep. but yes I know it's still not metal, but I liked the Beastie Boys and the album and still does so today!)
So I had gotten myself Master of Puppets, the double disc album with the poster, and I listened to that album day and night, some years later I had to go out and get myself a new copy of it, I had worn it out.
Well I was hooked on metal, and apart from a year or so (where I got this thing for Frank and his sons Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa and King Crimson, still do btw.), metal has been my main musical focus, but as long as the music is good I don't really care about the label, but I must admit that 80% of my collection is metal, a collection that contains everything from classical to death.
Since I've been brought up in a house with both a mother and dad who loves music, and my mother played classical piano when I was a child, I also had to have a go at playing my beloved music myself. So I started playing piano with my mum as a small kid, and quickly my mum got me a teacher, but I left the piano pretty quickly though, well mostly because I hated the piano teacher I had, but also because I'd rather play football with the other kids, than sitting inside doing finger stretching drills (they hurt like you wouldn't believe, well more than playing football anyway.).
Later on in my teens I got turned back onto playing, this time on an instrument that I have always been in love with; the bass, you see the thing was, that just like any other kid I wanted to be a guitarist at first (playing air guitar that is), but 3 times out of two I would opt for the bass instead, and I figured that i perhaps should take that as a hint. So today, more than 10 years later, I play bass in an old school metal band called Caution to the Wind (well we like to add some odd times here and there, and our chord structure is perhaps not the most classical one either, but we dig it, and we sure rock! ;-)). Most of my friends are either in a band, playing music or linked to music in some way or another, and 99% of them are metal heads. At the moment Caution to the Wind is concentrating on a three track demo, which we are about to record. new gigs have been set up, so World look out (btw. The lame picture of me, is from our upcoming www, I play the role of the thoughtful bass player.)!!
To end this almost endless stream of words, and to give you a little insight to what's in my record and cd collection, it might be a good idea to list a few of my favourite bands, but just to warn you, the list quickly becomes very long - too long, and well it often changes from time to time, so I will not tire you with that, but then again there are always those special ones that get their way into the list someway or another and some of those bands are Hades, Ark, Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Morbid Angel, Talisman, Megadeth, Testament, Death, Queen, Control Denied, Freak Kitchen and Dream Theater.
If you have come this far, you would already know that I'm into classical music, but what you didn't know, is that I'm also into Jazz (mostly instrumental and often with the bass as one of the main instruments), I'm a huge Jonas Hellborg (and Shawn Lane -RIP!) fan, I love Adam Nitti's way of writing and playing, and Marcus Millers crystal highs and tight lows are just to die for, but I guess we'll keep that out of here ;-).
So well there you go, a lot of words just to tell you that I like music, thanks for staying tuned!
Cheers and ride on!
