Sunday, May 9, 2010 - Evergrey - Time for some changes | News from the official Evergrey website: As promised here is the first part of news regarding Evergrey as a band. At first it might seem devastating and frightening as it did to us when making this decision. People change, evolve and grow, sometimes in different ways and in different directions. This happens to everyone and it has certainly happened to Evergrey as a band throughout the years. Me and Rikard have together with Henrik and Jonas made the mutual decision that it was best for us all that they leave Evergrey. They wanted to and we wanted them to. The last tours, recordings and just hanging with each other has not been as fun and giving as earlier AND before it would go too far, resulting in a collision in between friends, which could ruin everything we have built up during the years, we decided to call it quits. It's sometimes both smart and foreseeing to end situations before they get out of hand and create something that is totally unnecessary and irreparable. To be in a band must be experienced as fun, giving and fulfilling. There is SO much time during a life as a touring musician that is boring that if you don't even enjoy yourself while playing then it's better to do something else. Henrik and Jonas also got "DeathDestruction" that ALSO has evolved and became more and more serious during the years and now they even recorded a debut album and naturally it felt fresh and reviving for them to enter something new and unexplored as opposed to Evergrey where they more or less experienced the same things over and over. It is VERY important for us to tell you that we are still great friends and most likely always will be since we have shared 10 years of our lives and dedicated it to the progress and evolvement of Evergrey. The friendship is what we value the most and nothing could be more important than that, at least for the four of us. So please take some time to digest and understand. That is what we have done and I am glad to say that all of us are happier than in a long time. This is something I think you can feel when watching the video version of the statement. BUT that is not the end of it. Jari ALSO decided to leave the band, and the reason was that he would rather play with a band called "Killing machine" as they could offer him a salary we couldn't and that was the sole reason of his decision. We were REALLY sad to see Jari leave as he is a tremendous bass-player and person. I know what you all are thinking. ENOUGH WITH depressing news. So to something brighter: With all these new situations we were facing, me and Rikard had to sit down to think. First thought was of course "Fuck this. let's get a day job" but after a couple of weeks of contemplating and silence we realized something: Should we quit what we are doing, something that we still love as much as ten years ago, if not more, because of someone else disappearing, I mean it's not like it's the first time it happens and it never made Evergrey stagnate or lose its edge, quite the contrary. So should we continue to make the music that we and YOU enjoy deeply? As you understand we have chosen to continue. We have a full album written and half-way recorded. Last recording/mixing day will be June 30th. And a release BEFORE or at the latest on the 14th of October is set. We will soon (as we use to) start feeding you snippets. We ALSO have a European Tour coming up - starting NEXT SUNDAY in Hamburg. And to be able to do that tour we must have new members, and we do! So please be open-minded and welcome: Marcus Jidell (Royal Hunt) on Guitars Johan Niemann (ex-Therion, Mind's Eye) on Bass Hannes Van Dahl on Drums So be sure to bring your CDs of the above mentioned bands to the shows to have them signed These are the guys we have been working hard with to rehearse the old songs and writing the new ones. And today was our last rehearsal for the tour and I must say it sounds great in a way I didn't expect after such a short time. There is not a chance in HELL you will be disappointed in the performance of these guys. So that's why we do this tour. to bring and present the new guys to you and also at the same time get the chance to play the cities we didn't do on the November tour of course. As with ANY change, when you give it time you realize that it's turned out for the better. So far in this EVER-LASTING changing of members in Evergrey, it's always turned out great and brought fresh blood and motivation into the band, and the level of wanting to prove ourselves as a band is higher than EVER before. We do have some other great news that surely will bring this band to another level but as of yet we are restricted to speak about it. So don't give up on us, you never have, and we love you for it! Wednesday, April 21, 2010 - News From Evergrey | News from Evergrey:
Hey friends,
As promised there will be a whole lot of news coming your way in the coming weeks and days.
We have and still are undergoing some BIG changes in Evergrey at the moment. This involves everything you can possibly imagine, and can't imagine. BUT we are also very determined and focused on making the best album we have ever accomplished! We have NEVER spent so much time on detail as we are doing on this album. Everything from sounds to song-structures is under the magnifying glass and nothing will be left to chance.
Purely business related we are also undergoing changes, both big and small and the only thing we can and are allowed to say right now is that being us is very exciting for the moment.
Of course you will all be informed about this as soon as we know for certain that the plans are going to take place.
BUT we DO have some new tour-dates as well as quite a few to still be added on other continents than Europe so for our fans outside of Europe don't give up hope we will try to please everyone as soon as possible, probably sooner than you think And for our Euro fans, be sure you get tickets for these shows as they will be something none of you have seen from Evergrey before. Hmmmm what else might there be to tell.?
Yeah, back to the album! 11 songs are written and we will keep on writing and recording as long as time allows us. We are very pleased with the result and the direction we are heading right now. Maybe there is bit more weight put on melody and the orchestration of some songs. As said before, the sounds have become VERY important for us, every song has its own unique trademark as far as the sounds go. There are short songs (meaning 3 - 3.30 minutes) There are long songs (meaning up to 6.40) for the moment. There are slow, heavy, fast and atmospheric songs and of course most important of all - it sounds more Evergrey than ever!
So please stay tuned, visit our pages to catch the latest news and we will be there to serve them.
Thanks for sticking by us!

Monday, May 12, 2008 - Evergrey sign with Steamhammer / SPV | Following intense and very constructive discussions, Steamhammer/SPV have announced their future collaboration with Swedish dark melodic metal act, Evergrey. The deal includes not only the group's brand-new studio album, Torn, which will arrive at the stores at the beginning of September, but also Evergrey's complete back catalogue. Evergrey mastermind Tom S. Englund is looking forward to a productive cooperation with Steamhammer, explaining: "After long and intense negotiations, we feel that we have arrived at optimum conditions for everybody involved. We are confident that Evergrey will continue to grow artistically under the terms of this contract, that SPV will enjoy our cooperation and - this is definitely the most important aspect - that our fans will thoroughly benefit from the new deal."
The first stage of this ambitious target will see the release of Evergrey's new studio album, Torn, at the beginning of September, featuring eleven compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of In Search Of Truth and Recreation Day". "The tracks are all guitar-oriented and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental direction of Evergrey's previous release, Monday Morning Apocalypse, has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on Torn were self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.
Since the band arrived on the scene in 1998, Evergrey have brought out six studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10 (no. 6 and 3, respectively). On top of that, their DVD was number 1 for four weeks and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. The band has toured around the globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown, Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. Along with Torn, their new contract with Steamhammer/SPV includes the band's complete back catalogue, so top-quality reissues featuring a selection of bonus tracks are likely in future. "There is so much additional material for each album that we could theoretically re-release it on an extra DVD. Whatever we manage to do - premium reissues are certainly a possibility."

We have also decided to post video teasers for you to enjoy, there will be a new "trailer" every month up until we release the damn thing and oh, the title for it is " T O R N " !
Complete tracklisting will be presented here as soon as we have decided what songs will end up on special editions and / or bonus tracks for singles etc.
Other than that I am glad to read that all of you seem to love our new Evergrey "EY" logo. It will look pretty cool on a shirt that's for sure.
Tomorrow we play a show in Mariestad with our friends from All Ends so those of you who have the chance please stop by.
Summer festivals and tours for the fall are being booked as I write so be sure to check this area for all official confirmations. We will start rehearsing songs from TORN next week so MAYBE, and I mean maybe, we will play some of them in Finland in two weeks. Playing Finland is always a blast and it's nice to be with people that can keep up with us on the booze . Both me and Jari have lot's of relatives and friends coming out to the shows so that should be fun.
Tampere on the 19th and Helsinki on the 20th be sure to join in if you have the chance.
So enjoy the music combined with the fantastic photos courtesy of our friend René Asmussen http://www.reneasmussen.com/ - an award-winning Danish photgrapher who have graced us with his work which will be used in the booklet for " TORN " . That alone will be worth the money .
please let us know your feelings, ideas expectations after hearing what you now will hear.

Monday, November 12, 2007 - Evergrey cancel upcoming tour | A message from Evergrey:
Hello,
Unfortunately we must inform you that Evergrey not is able to do the planned tour with Brainstorm in March 2008. This is due to the fact that our next album not will be ready in time to be released before the tour. We feel it's not fair to the fans or to the promoters or to Brainstorm to do a tour without the new album out. If the circumstances aren't the best we shouldn't do a major tour like this. We are sorry for any problems this may cause but we will be back soon.
We wish our friends in Brainstorm all the best of luck with their re-scheduled dates.

Monday, October 22, 2007 - Evergrey studio report | Here is the latest studio report from Evergrey:
"Today went fuckin great , 2 tracks with Drums AND Guitars completed. So in total 5 songs with drums 4 with bass and 2 with guitars. Jari is coming on Sunday and we will continue with him on Monday morning . Man, I can't wait until you here this guy playing Evergrey material. It at least blows me away : ) . I also think that Jonas has put down some REALLY amazing drum work, the new songs makes him shine as he makes everything so much more vivid and groovy . Rikard and Henrik are at home writing some more killer stuff so that we have more than enough to choose from whenever the time comes .
Also you can be sure that we put everything we have in us into this release as it feels like, not that it will be, our last album . Sort of feels like when we recorded the first album and we never really knew if we would be able to ever make one again. That kind of innocence, lust and urge to create something fantastic is somewhat overwhelming, something that I'd never thought we'd feel again.
Some song titles :
Nothing is erased, When kingdom's fall, These scars, Soaked.
Well that's it for this week
Read me on Monday...

Monday, August 6, 2007 - Evergrey announce new Bassist | News from Tom Englund, Evergrey:
"Our new bass player's name is Jari Kainulainen!
Some of you might know him as a former member of Stratovarius and we are extremely happy to have him in the band as we know he will improve our sound in a great way which he already proved when we rehearsed together.
Me and Henrik (Danhage) talked after the rehearsal and both said we had goosebumps and this coming from a a guy playing bass. Before it's always been like - hey whatever it's only bass - but now we really feel that Jari will bring our sound up to a new level.
We got along great and it of course also helps a lot that Jari is a very experienced player when it comes to playing live with his several world tours together with Stratovarius as proof.
This was one of the main things we were looking for in a bass player except for the playing of course, so that we wouldn't end up with a person who after 100 gigs finds out that this was not what he was meant for, cause this is, whether you believe so or not, a very weird and demanding life that let's you experience the greatest things in the world as well as the sickest, most draining moments of utter insecurity - that of course immediately vanishes as soon as we get to play for you guys!
We are so much looking forward to the coming months of recording and playing and it honestly feels like a fresh start and an injection I think we needed.
I'm going to leave you with a few words from Jari himself."
Says Jari, "What can I say? When I heard that Evergrey was searching for a new bass player, I immediately contacted Tom to let him know that I was extremely interested! Then they asked me to come and audition for them. I can't even start to explain how nervous I was! But everything just matched, and sounded great! And before we knew it we were all shit faced and celebrating the Scandinavian way! See you on the gigs!" · Discuss this news further (0) |
Wednesday, June 20, 2007 - Evergrey album news | News from Evergrey:
"As you all know, Fredrik Larsson was the temporary bass player after Michael left. Fredrik has now re-joined Hammerfall. The Evergrey crew wish him all the best in the future. He is still a good friend of the band.
New songs have been and are being recorded. Tom and Henrik are doing all the bass playing in the studio at this moment, so bass is not an issue at this time. Jonas and Rikard are also participating in writing lyrics and music for the new album. The recording session is scheduled to be done by the end of the summer.
The new album will be launched before Christmas. For all Fans out there, this album is HEAVY! In my ears probably the heaviest they have ever done.
After releasing the new album Evergrey will start touring. By that time a bass player should be selected for the band (hired or permanent, future will tell...).
There are also some new endorsement contracts being negotiated at this time. It's still too early to announce as of yet.
A new label is being sought after...more to come on that later.
Kind regards
Z.P.

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - Bassist Michael Håkansson leaves Evergrey | Michael Håkansson has decided to part ways with Evergrey. The new bass player will be the band's long-time friend Fredrik Larsson.
Michael has left the following message for all the Evergrey fans:
"Dear friends and fans of Evergrey.
After a long time of consideration and many, many hours of thinking I now, with sadness, announce my departure from the band.
I have been a part of the band for seven years and during that time I have experienced so much and I have seen more than I ever thought I would. But now it is time for me to say goodbye.
My reason for doing this is that I feel a strong urge to do something different in music. This is the one and only reason and it's 100% my own decision.
I want to thank the boys for all the good times we have had together thoughout the years. I wish them the best of all success, something they truly deserve and without doubt will achieve.
Take care everyone /Mikey"
