Deathstars - Synthetic Generation
DeathStars are a Dimmu Bogir rip off and they don't do it very well i might add. Described as Industrial Metal is pretty accurate but they are trying to be new Black Metal too.
Why the hell Anders Friden decided to produce this I will never understand but hey he did. This is a total record company attempt at a commercial black metal album for the masses and it falls very short indeed. These guys are all dressed up like a bad Marylin Manson impersonation. This is pretty weak stuff and i can't recommend anyone buy this solely because this is a record company band much like Brittney Spears is a product.

What this represents though is the fact that metal is back again in a big way. Big enough for record companies to start making fake copies of original bands to try and force sell us as the real deal. Shame on Nuclear Blast for trying to slip this past us a real deal metal! Don't they know that metal heads can smell fakes from miles away!

What the music is about: Well first off they like to see how many times they can say 'F**k in any given song as if this makes them ultra bad asses or something. It's all electronic drums, hence the "industrial" aspect plus some dark techno keyboard samples and an over driven digitized guitar sound. To top it off they have effected the vocals to where you don't ever know what the singer actually sounds like.

Stay clear of this one folks or bear the ridicule that comes from being an owner of this tripe, low class, record company product slop!

Makes my top ten worst list of 2003.

I'm in total disagreement. They are not black metal...try industrial metal...and in NO way are they rip-offs of Dimmu Borgir. Have you even listened to the album?

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Tuesday, January 6, 2004
Hey Mech,
I appreciate your comments. Yes i have listened....painfully had to and i did it ten times no less. That's my own personal spins requirement for reviewing a disc. If you dig them then i'm glad because they need fans to support them.
However i do stand by all i said about their album...including the Dimmu similarities. SO let's agree to disagree!
Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my review.
Keep it forever heavy!

I think you fucking stupid to say deathstars suck!

Comment by vampire hunter (Anonymous) - Wednesday, January 14, 2004
what is your f**king problem, deathstars is a good group .if you think that's chit oh man shut up they're not merit 3/10 mayby 7/10.this is not perfect what they do but this is they're first cd and for a first cd it's very good.it's industrial metal they do.it's most ressamblance with ramstein than dimmu borgir.pffff if you don't no what is music d'ont coment it.

Comment by Jim (Anonymous) - Wednesday, January 21, 2004
I think Fat Friar is right....record company bullshit!
Maybe next record will be good....but this one SUCKS!

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Wednesday, January 21, 2004
To use Rammstein in the same sentence as Deathstars proves you are an idiot! They don't resemble Rammstein at all ! The resemble dookie put through a drum machine and keybords with some crappy ass guiatrs thrown on top! Hence forth....they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Mmm (Anonymous) - Tuesday, February 3, 2004
Similar to Dimmu Borgir?
Xa-xa-xa:)

Comment by stefan (Anonymous) - Wednesday, February 4, 2004
Yeah the reviewer is right...this is pretty weak album. There are a few moments of intersting music but it really stinks all together.
Maybe next reecord will be more original.....i do hear some Dimmu similarities but it is mostly industrial metal but not good industrial metal that's for sure.

Comment by dave (Anonymous) - Saturday, February 7, 2004
Haha, you're not that that familiar with metal music, are you? How can you even compare these two bands. it's a disgrace - for both bands. Both are excellent acts in their own ways. deathstars are something new, something that we can count on in the future. It's an amazing first album! I think they are fantastic, and unique.
And besides... Fuck off. how old are you anyway, 14?

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Saturday, February 7, 2004
Damn dude! You gave it away! yes I am 14!

Comment by Mech (Anonymous) - Monday, March 1, 2004
Thanks for replying to my comment...I agree to disagree, yes...but I still disgree for you to disagree with me ;) ....Anyway, life goes on....but, a good idea maybe to get another member on the staff list to review it?

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Wednesday, March 3, 2004
The only problem with getting another staff memeber to review it is that i'm in The U.S.
I can get the Hashman maybe to review it for you but knowing him like I do i do not think his would be a positve review as well.
All the other staff members are in other countries and i have the promo copy here with me.
I'm sure there are other mags and webzines that have given the Deathstars disc a more positive review. So we'll just stick with a difference of opinion on this one. Hopefully i can write a review of some other band that we both like and have the chance to agree on something:)
Keep It forever heavy!

'Tis all good...
We do agree on something, the Falkenbach release is awesome!

Comment by Peter (Anonymous) - Thursday, April 22, 2004
Damn that was about the shittiest review i ever seen of anything.
If you cant review and still be objective, my oppinion might be that you shouldn't be reviewing.
But ofcause, if you are into Black Metal, i understand you don't like Deathstars since that's not what they are playing.

Comment by sYn (Anonymous) - Thursday, April 22, 2004
To the author of the review:

Heh, you're a poser. You're one of those high and mighty fellas who has admin rights on a review page, and thus thinks he's an expert on music relations. You're a fake, a failer, and you're a sad sod if I ever saw one.

Get some experience and common musical knowledge beyond your little "I started listening to black metal when I was 12, so now I'm an expert musician who knows exactly what it's all about" scheme.

Come again once you're a bit more enlightened, ok? ;)

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Friday, April 23, 2004
Hey Peter and sYn.
Thanks for the comments and insults...you have a right to your opinion and so do I. My opinion holds no god-like status...so it's ok if i think something sucks and say that in a review....just like it's ok for you to like this band and disagree with my assesment. Just a difference of opinion not a cause for life altering action as you suggest. To disagree is expected...to insult is not. Make Deathstars a more respectable band by being a respectable fan because so far your kind has led me to believe my assesment of the band is right on...mindless idiots who would rather bring others down than to celebrate good songs and songwriting, who use insults as thier only means of creative output. Hey we all know where Deathstars is going....no where! haha

Comment by sYn (Anonymous) - Friday, April 23, 2004
Just comes to show exactly how little you know about music/reviewing.

Thanks for proving my point ;)

Comment by Peter (Anonymous) - Sunday, April 25, 2004
Erh.
Maybe it's me being stupid, but i thought review's was made for the people who are thinking about bying a cd? Your review don't give me any idea about the album, except that you dont like it. Besides that you don't like the album, i've found alot of your thought's about the record label, not that i could care less, but somehow someone has put em here.
It's alright to put a personal thought about the band and the record label or anything that just has a bit to do with the album or whatever is being reviwed, that could be a few lines in the end, in a short conclusion.
One fourth of your review is about the album the rest of it is just flaming. Useless.
Then you call me a mindless idiot because i insult you, it wasn't like i ever called you stupid or anything, just said that i think you could be better of placed somewhere else.
And yeah your damn right, Deathstars ain't going anywhere they'll stay in the metal scene, right where they belong, and you, you're going, out'a'here. :P It's the funny thing with Steen, hes so mutch into Woku (A drink) that if i ever need anything from him ill just buy a bottle of Wolf and carry it to him and he act's like my slave for a week. My words are commands and will by obayed. (I dno that mutch about American humor, but i know my own, and it suck's, but it's there, as you see in this last part ;>)

Hey Pete and sYn.....

Thanks man i needed agood laugh today! haha! Metal for Trannies! That's rich man!

Comment by Sheex (Anonymous) - Thursday, June 10, 2004
I agree with Peter, sYn and whoever else disagrees with the reviewer here:
The review is absolutely no good.
All of it is flaming, save the title. Even though I don't really like the album it's not nearly as bad as you make it sound, American.

Comment by The Fat Friar (Anonymous) - Thursday, June 24, 2004
I should give bad reviews more often! I love all the talking back and forth!
It's good to know that fans are still out there fighting against reviews they don't like for bands they love. I still don't dig Deathstars anymore than i did back when i wrote this but it's cool that poeple are still reading and taking the time to write about...good or bad....thanks for reading friends or enemies of the review!

Forever Heavy..Keep It \m/

I agree with the reveiwer, Deathstars are pretty lame. I just can't take that crap seriously, it all seems like joke to me. They remind me of Spinal Tap.

Comment by Doppel (Anonymous) - Wednesday, January 31, 2007
Deathstars are only band that wants to create music that is mixure between Rammstein, Laibach and Marlyn Manson, but they are much more Suxful. Their music is really non good... My comment is that they are poor band. But now new album is out, there are some good songs...
