Wolverine - Cold Light Of Monday
Wolverine have become pioneers of the relatively new field of metallic prog rock. Abandoning their days of Death metal they have ventured into the territory that Green Carnation have found themselves in lately. While Wolverine don't sound immediately like Green Carnation they have the same exploratory nature with the prog rock they write and perform.
Cold Light Of Monday is a concept album about an abused woman named Sarah. The story starts at her end so to speak. She is at the end of a troubled life and she finds her way back to the start of all the pain she has found her self in now.
Not one to blow a story for you i will leave you to find out all the twists and turns of the story yourself should you buy this album.

On vocals we have Stefan Zell. On Guitars we have Mikael Zell and Per Broddeson. On Bass is Thomas Jansson. On Drums the very able Marcus Losbjer and finally the keys are played by Andreas Baglien.

You will hear both clean and distorted guitars. Slow sections and quiet sections. Loud, boisterous sections with oddtime drumming here and there. You will hear clean vocals and rock vocals. You will think Geoff Tate sometimes and sometimes you won't.
You will think Dream Theater at times. You will think Pink Floyd at times. You will even think Vanden Plas at times. All those bands along with Green Carnation flavors will give you a close idea of what to expect from these guys.

Wolverine may not have the best Prog name i have ever heard but hey they weren't prog at the beginning so i can live with that. So get to know this name...remember it...they will be known in the same league and as pioneers of metallic prog rock as the aforementioned bands have become.

Standout tracks to me were Dusk, Sarah, Tied With Sin and New Best Friend. The whole album really moves and shifts but all in complete harmony and makes the challenge of a successful concept album a reality for these guys. Not an easy feat i can assure you!

The album sounds great and all instruments are given their fair share of the limelight. Each player knows what to play and when to play. You never find yourself thinking that a certain sound should not have been used or that it was placed in the wrong place. Truly gifted writers and players here....no duds or fillers on this album either! Top notch from top to bottom!

Go to ww.elitistrecords.co.uk for some sound samples before you buy it to see what i mean about their skills and writing abilities.
I think you will like this if you dig Dream Theater, Vanden Plas, Pink Floyd and Green Carnation at all.
