Misery Index - Retaliate
What the remains of Dying Fetus have produced is Misery Index. Distinctly different than Fetus but no less full of brutality. Misery Index finds the Fetuses of Jason Netherton(Vocals & Bass),Sparky Voyles(Guitar) and a new drummer in the likes of Matt Byers.

First off this is a 3 piece, obviously right? Man they do not sound like a 3 piece. The music is thick and technical but groovy. It's fast....very damn fast! If any of you deathsters out there have the newest offering from Defiled then you will have an idea of what to expect from MI. The drums are fat and the bass drums click like an anti-aircraft gun from a battleship. The songs are short and to the point with a vocal flavor that reminds me of Obituary. The bass guitar is actually heard which is kinda unusual for a death band and i am glad you can hear it. It makes a really cool sound and fills up the lower end very nicely. So that brings me to guitar sounds. Very full and broad tones with a nice but, not too fat, chunk! There's a little grindcore tossed in for good measure but it is not the focus of the sound. This is a more technical type of Death metal.

I really dug The Great Depression for it's catchy groove and pounding rhythms. The same thing happens in Demand The Impossible but with a quick and snappy double bass drumming and some really cool vocal effects weaving in and out. This is my favorite vocal track because of the busyness and quantity of the vocal lines. Really cool!

There seems to be a trend happening lately od bands making shorter albums...especially in extreme metal music. This MI album clocks in at a paltry 31:22 total. 10 tracks but a little over half an hour's worth of music!

I like this trend and have a personal taste of albums not being over about 45 minutes. Some albums can get away with more than that but most would better served with much less filler and just the facts mam...just the facts! haha

Misery Index do not dissappoint and thier brand of Death should carry them far and make themselves a know name in a very overcrowded scene!

So to sum up.....this album made me miserable! Haha
