The album "For those about to sniff some glue -
We salute you" is
Pretty Boy Floyd guitarist Kristy Krash Majors' tribute to Ramones. Kristy performs all instruments plus vocals and thereby differentiates this album from common tributes with different participants. You might think that this album is more consistent then, but the Ramones' impressive back catalogue consists of songs of various qualities. This criticism is not forwarded against Kristy, but the fact that Ramones made some great songs, but the majority is not satisfying my taste in music. Kristy's selection of material doesn't match my personal Ramones favorites.
Ramones set the blueprint for American punk bands and deeply inspired the "new punk bands" like Offspring and
Green Day. I have a hard time hearing the Ramones inspiration in the music of
Pretty Boy Floyd, but hats off to Kristy for taking on this project.
Overall Kristy Krash Majors does a great job on Ramones' 3 chord punk Rock. Especially the vocals are worth highlighting, as they are pretty close to Joey Ramone's vocal range.
Album opens with the best song
I just wanna have something to do in a version close to the original. Most songs are straightforward simple chord rock like
Do You Wanna Dance,
Locked Love and
Now I wanna sniff someGlue.
Here Today Gone tomorrow has a nice sound effect bringing more emotion to the half-ballad.
California Sun brings a smile to my face with a happy beat and a great surfing guitar riff. Dee Dee Ramone's ex. Wife Barabara takes vocal duties on
Sidewalk Surfin and she has a really good voice. The song is standard and has a weak sound quality, but the inclusion is justified since it's an unreleased track written by Dee Dee.
There are only a few songs on this tribute that I don't enjoy. However, Ramones songs are a bit stereotype and you can easily get overdoses. Therefore the running time of this album is perfect, since it's only 33 minutes and that's maximum time I can spend with Ramones without getting bored.
