Missa Mercuria - Missa Mercuria
On Missa Mercuria's first album we find musicians from Vanden Plas, Pink Cream 69, Edenbridge, and Silent Force. The album is a symphonic Metal concept with many relaxed songs and instrumental parts.

The concept is about the dark side of mankind, and how the right and just path once again can be found.
Themes of religion, spirituality, mystic experiences, lust, love, nature, metaphysic thoughts and more are commented on. The lyrics are pretty good, but not exactly offering something really fantastic.

I will comment on some songs that describes that feel of the album pretty well.

After some symphonic intros Divine Sparks sets in with a direct approach. The rhythm is very solid and pretty tight. The guitar riff is raw and the drums powerful. I like the mystic atmospheric keyboard section from the talented Günter Werno. DC Cooper's vocals are overall melodic and pretty good on the record, and I don't know why he on this song sings with such an irritating thin and high tune in the chorus. This is certainly a negative element in an otherwise good song.

Spirit of Wisdom (Airgod) starts with a slow piano intro that sets a great mood. A tight riff gets the song into pace and Andy Kuntz's great vocal fits perfectly with the flow of the track. The rhythm is tight and the keyboards make some interesting contributions.

Fairytale Of Truth has a ballad feel to it. The multi vocal chorus functions really well, and the relaxed feel of the main melody is also a plus. The song is of high quality but not exactly groundbreaking, a fact that goes for a lot of the songs on the album.

Bursting Ego sounds a bit monotone in its approach. The song lacks some exiting parts, and seems very reliant on its slow mid-tempo rhythm. The keys are very melodic though, and the guitar leads makes some cool passages. Rectificando has a grooving feel to it and the bass sounds very tight. The chorus is a bit stretched out and not that catchy. A pretty tight song, but again without much really fantastic to offer.

Beside the vocal track songs the album contain a high number of instrumental ones. The symphonic keyboard arrangements are a big plus here. The instrumental guitar parts are also very fitting and well played by Stephan Lill.
Overall the musical performance is very good. Cool melodic vocal parts, great riffs and harmonious solos, grooving bass lines, solid drums and cool atmospheric keyboard passages of high quality.

The sound is clear and contains a great deal of depth, so all in order.

I would have liked a couple of really stunning songs, but the album consists of many pretty good songs that fit together nicely making this an overall good album.

very good review...almost glowingly positive comments. But then you only give it a 6.5?? Oh, well.
