The new
Manowar single finally landed on my doorstep. I'd just awoken after a party the night before with some heavy drinking and my head had that fuzzy kind of feel... Well, the first thing I did was to put this CD in my player. I hadn't noticed that the volume of my stereo was turned up higher than usual so I was pretty much blown away with the power and speed of the opening song
The Dawn of Battle
No hangovers survived the heavy banging that ensued. What an excellent song. Eric Adams sings with great power and still holds a lot of melody in his voice. In the middle part the song takes a turn like so many
Manowar epics before it and the slow part that continues fits in just perfect. The powerful ending leaves me out of breath. Damn, I love that chorus. A brilliant song and a good sign for things to come. I can hereby declare that this song will cure all hangovers if listened to, at the right volume...
I believe is a good
Manowar hymn. It might win over some new fans too, but for my taste it's just a little too simple and doesn't quite reach the magnificence of a song like Carry on. The song grows with each listen though and the message that it brings is true to the metal spirit of
Manowar.
The final song is
Call to Arms. One of my favourites of Warriors of the world. Like I wrote in
that review this song calls for a case of beer and singing with your brothers. That I still crave that under these circumstances today must be a sign of how powerful and strong this song really is.
All fans of
Manowar should run out and get this single. The two new songs are only available here and will not be included on future albums as far as I know. To those who don't know the band then this is a good taste of their music.
I bought the special edition of this single with an enhanced CD-ROM part. It has a pretty interesting documentary of the Ringfest performance and access to a special website with a tour diary on the current tour and other things. The Ringfest documentary is not included on the Fire and Blood DVD. (A review of that one will be online in a few days)
These new songs have pushed my expectations for the next
Manowar album even higher. I'm one of those who hope that they will one day make a concept album of some kind.
Bravery calls my name...
