Limbonic Art - The Ultimate Death Worship
Limbonic Art is a black metal duo from Norway (where else). The band plays symphonic black metal, and the inspiration from bands like Emperor is not hard to hear. To use the word "symphonic" doesn't mean that the music is soft or anything like that - it is still very brutal.

The band used to be a four man band, but now the only members left are Daemon (lead vocals, guitar, lyrics) and Morfeus (electronics, lead guitar, vocals). The drums come from a drum machine - something I am not a big fan of. The vocals are pretty good - that is demonic and evil-sounding in black metal lingo. The sound on the album is acceptable - except for the drums, they sound a bit obscure (in the bad way). The band makes use of the usual black metal elements such as screaming, fast drums and guitar shredding riffs.

The album is above average, but I don't think I will be spinning this album very often in the future. There are a few good tracks, but I think that some of them are way too long. Understand me right here - there is nothing wrong with long songs, but I feel that some of the songs on The Ultimate Death Worship would be better if they were only half the length.

The opener on the album is the title number The Ultimate Death Worship.- it is a decent song, but again here I think the length is the problem. There are some great riffs in this song, and it stands out as the best on the album for me. The next song is called Suicide Commando, and it is a well put together track - again we are dealing with good riffs, and there is a good flow in the song. The last song I would like to mention is Towards The Oblivion Of Dreams - it is 10 minutes long, and it has some great keyboard in it. The song has a slow passage in the middle of the song - this makes it a bit fragmented in my ears; like the track is split up in 2 parts.

I rate this album 6.5/10 since it is a pretty good black metal album. I would, however, only recommend the album to people who are already fans of the band. There is not much new and inventive about The Ultimate Death Worship.

I like this album a lot. I do agree that the lack of good songs is a bit of a problem. I tend to only really listen to suicide commando, towards the oblivion of dreams and interstellar overdrive. The rest of the songs are just kind of boring.

Daemon is known to be an amazing composer for the drum machine. it took me about 10mins before I noticed that there was a drum machine instead of a drummer. I think it would have been better with a real drummer but the replacement is not bad.

The synths are nicely done in the album. This is where they are most similar to emperor. They use synths in a similar way but don't let it overwhelm the album.

I would have given this album about a 7.5 out of 10. I prefer their older albums like in abhorence dementia but this is still a solid album.

Since february 2003 Limbonic Art have been split. Daemon i believe is now in the big death emtal outfit zyklon with a couple members of emperor.
