Saxon has re-recorded some of their old classics, which are found on CD 1. The songs have got a really tight and hard feel to them, and they are played with much enthusiasm, so I'm overall positive with the result.
A melodic tune such as
Princess Of The Night has become very powerful, and it is cool to hear a great uncompromising track like
Backs To The Wall in a 21-century version.
All the tracks are from the first 6
Saxon albums, so there clearly is a big difference from the original ones, but I guess that was the aim of making this cd.
The band has never been better than in the recent line up, and their live shows are fantastic, that special energy is clearly to hear on these recordings.
CD 2 consists of 5 live tracks from 2002 Killing Ground Tour, and the songs are well played, but the sound is really not very good, so this second cd is a bit strange.
The video track of Killing Ground from Wacken 2001 is the studio version, which seems odd because the show really kicked ass.
All in all some cool versions of old classics, some live songs with a poor sound and a live video without a real live sound, so this release gets its plus points on CD 1.
